The Mahabharata Book 9: Chapter 44, Shalya Parva Kisari Mohan Ganguli, tr. 1883-1896 mentions about the Gods who came to the ceremony for investing Kartikeya with the status of generalissimo. Karal has been mentioned along with other Gods as under in shloka 56: Skanda Purana mentions that there are Twenty-eight types of hells. Karala is mentioned at 19th order.
