Malasi or Mailasi (मैलासी)is a village in Sujangarh tahsil in Churu district in Rajasthan. This place is famous as a religious place where the first hair of new born baby are offered to a deity known as rigtiya (रिग्तिया). This deity is established on an ancient well in the village.
Malasi village came in news in 1984. The police filed the chargesheet against 41 accused in 1985. Proceedings against seven persons were dropped as they died during the trial period. One of the accused is said to be absconding. The judge sentenced the 32 to life imprisonment finding them guilty of crime and acquitted one on benefit of doubt. The incident took place on the issue of offering prayers at the local Bhaironji temple in April 1984, where hundreds of devotees had gathered for prayers and animal sacrifices.[1]
