Nerun (नेरून) was the ancient name of a city in Lower Sindh, Pakistan. Its present name is Hyderabad.

Location

Origin

A village was founded by Nehra Jats at the site in earlier times, where the foundation of the modern city of Hydrabad [Sindh] was re-laid in 18th century .

History

The city was founded in 1768 by Mian Ghulam Shah Kalhoro upon the ruins of a Mauryan fishing village along the bank of the Indus known as Neroon Kot (Sindhi: نيرُون ڪوٽ). Formerly the capital of Sindh, it serves as the HQ of the district of Hyderabad.

Hyderabad is a city built on three hillocks cascading over each other. Mian Ghulam Shah Kalhoro of the Kalhora Dynasty founded the city in 1768 over the ruins of Neroon Kot (Nerun or Nerun Kot) (meaning the place of Neroon), a small fishing village on the banks of River Indus named after its ruler Neroon.

The country of Nírún

Sir H. M. Elliot[1] writes that The country of Nírún is between Debal and Mansúra, but rather nearer to the latter. Manjábarí is to the west of the Mihrán, and there any one who proceeds from Debal to Mansúra will have to pass the river, the latter place being opposite to Manjábarí.

एक तरफ अरब-आक्रमणकारियों से लड़ना पड़ता था और दूसरी ओर उनके बीच में घुस पड़ने वाले ब्राह्मण राजाओं से संघर्ष करना होता था। नेरुन की भूमि पर इस समय हैदराबाद बसता है।
