Om Prakash (Khatri) has been a senior officer of the Indian Foreign Service (1977 Batch). He hails from Bakner village of north Delhi. He retired from Service on 30 September 2010. He is fluent in Japanese language.

He served as Deputy Director-General in the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), New Delhi. He also represented India in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), Hanoi(Vietnam), served as India's Consul General in Milan (Italy), as Ambassador in Bishkek (Kygyzstan), as Ambassador in Paramaribo (Suriname), as Consul General in Osaka-Kobe (Japan) and as Ambassador of India in Helsinki (Finland). Osaka-Kobe was his third representation in Japan, having earlier served in Tokyo twice.

Before joining the IFS he was a Lecturer in Delhi University, followed by selection in the IPS.

He is married to Vanita ji and has a son and two daughters.
