Panghal (पंघाल) Pangal (पंगाल) Pangal (पंगल) Panghal (पंघल) Panghal (पंघाळ) Pangar (पांगर) gotra of Jats are found in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana. It was originated from Tosham. Pangal originated from Pandul (पण्डुल) son of Raja Nandram. ^[1] It is included in list of Chauhans.

History

They have been mentioned in Mahabharata Shalya Parva in shloka 96 as under:

सुविभक्तशरीराश च दीप्तिमन्तः सवलंकृताः

पिङ्गाक्षाः शङ्कुकर्णाश च वक्रनासाश च भारत ।। 96 ।।

They are mentioned in Markandeya Purana and also in Varahamihira as Pingalaka.^{[2] [3]} They are mentioned in the Satapatha Brahmana as Paingya. ^{[4] [5]}

Jat clans as described by Megasthenes also includes this clan. Megasthenes writes that after Taxila, Then succeeds a level tract of country known by the general name of Amanda (Manda), Whereof the tribes are four in number inhabiting the area and these are The Peucolaitae (Pangal), Arsagalitae (Asiagh), Geretae (Getae), Asoi (Asiagh)
