Prachi Tehlan

Prachi Tehlan, born on 2 October 1989, is a Netball player, from Nangli Sakrawati village in Delhi. She is captain of Indian Women's Netball team.

Prachi in sports

Prachi have been into sports since 2002. She always had her interest to play as a pivot because of her good height, physique and shooting accuracy.

Prachi represented Delhi many times in different categories. Prachi got selected to attend the National camps many times to represent country.

Prachi started playing Netball in 2007 when the game attracted her with its style and growing international standards of playing. India being the host country got an opportunity to participate in the Commonwealth Games 2010. That was where Prachi's Netball journey began. With a good shooting action and accuracy, Prachi's coach decided to play as a GS (goal shooter) and GA (goal attack). Now Prachi is a well known Netball shooter in India.

Below are Prachi's yearly achievements in Basketball at all the levels of school, state, nationals and international camps.


2002
  1. Participated in 29th Sub-Junior Basketball Championship at Pondicherry Engineering College from 17th to 22nd June, 2002 representing Delhi.
  2. Attended the National Zonal Basketball Coaching Camp for Sub-Junior Girls at Mumbai from 1st to 18th August, 2002.
  3. Participated in 48th National School Basketball Championship under- 14 years age category from 31st Dec to 5th Jan, 2003 representing Delhi.
  4. Inter School Basketball Tournaments
  1. Winners: Hansraj Prabhakar Memorial Basketball Tournament, Inter Zonal Sports Tournament
  2. Runners Up: Archbishop Allan deLastic Memorial Basketball Tournament
  3. Participation: The Shri Ram School-Pepsi Basketball Tournament, Central Board of Senior Education tournament.
2003
  1. Participated in 20th Youth National Basketball Championship at Municipal Ground, Kangra (H.P.) from 14th to 20th October, 2003.
  2. Attended the Under 19 National Coaching Camp in Cuttack, (Orissa). 22 girls were short listed out of 48 and I was the youngest player in the camp.
  3. Inter School Basketball Tournaments
  4. Winners: Nargita Pandey Memorial Basketball Tournament, Don Bosco Inter School Tournament, the British School Basketball Tournament; Inter School Basketball Tournament, CBSE National Basketball Tournament, National Montfort Games, Hyderabad.
  5. Runners Up: CBSE Cluster Tournament.
  6. Participation: The Shri Ram School- Pepsi Basketball Tournament.
2004
  1. Participated in 21st Youth National Basketball Championship at Gotan, (Rajasthan) from 20th to 26th June, 2004.
  2. Participated in 55th Junior National Basketball Championship at Chittoor, (Andhra Pradesh) from 6th to 13th June, 2004.
  3. Participated in 49th National School Games, Raipur, (Chhattisgarh) from 15th to 19th Jan, 2004.
  4. She was selected in the best 20 out of 22 to attend the National Coaching camp further at the same place.
  5. Inter School Tournaments
  6. Winners: Zonal School Competition, Inter Zonal Sports Tournament, CBSE Cluster Tournament, CBSE North Zone Basketball Tournament.
  7. Runners Up: The Shri Ram School Basketball Tournament, Hansraj Prabhakar Memorial Basketball Tournament, Fr. Agnel.
  8. Participation: 4th All India Rajiv Gandhi Gold Cup for girls.
2005
  1. Participated in 56th JUNIOR NATIONAL BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP at Pondicherry from 21st to 28th May, 2005 and secured 3rd POSITION.
  2. Participated in R. Vaikuntam Cup Basketball For Women at New Delhi from 12 to 14th July, 2005 and secured 3rd Position. 48 girls from all over India were selected to play this tournament and were divided into 4 teams which played against each other.
  3. Participated in 22nd Youth National Basketball Championship at Jaisalmer (Rajasthan) from 24th to 30th July, 2005 and secured 2nd Position.
  4. Participated in 51st National School Games, Delhi and secured 1st Position.
  5. Basketball Federation of India selected me to attend a National Coaching Camp for Junior Girls at Ludhiana from 15th Dec, 2004 to 3rd Jan, 2005.

2006
  1. Participated in 57th Junior National Basketball Championship at Ludhiana, Punjab from 27th May, 2006 to 3rd June, 2006 and secured 2nd Position.
  2. Participated in 52nd National School Games, Delhi and was been declared as the Captain and secured 1st Position.
  3. Participated in National Sports Festival For Women, Chennai (Tamil Nadu) from 6th to 9th November, 2006.
  4. She was awarded the Sportsman of the Year 2006-2007 in the higher school.
  5. Inter School Basketball Tournaments
  6. Winners: CBSE Cluster Tournament, St, Gabriel’s Academy Roorkee Basketball tournament, Hansraj Prabhakar Memorial Basketball Tournament, Fr. Agnel BB Tournament.
  7. Runners up: 11th Delhi State Sports Festival For Women
2008
  1. Participated in Inter University Basketball Tournament, Amritsar, Punjab.
  2. Inter College Basketball Tournaments
  3. Winners: All India Institute of medical Sciences, Inter college basketball tournament
  4. Runners Up: YMCA Invitational Basketball Tournament.

Achievements in Netball

Below are Prachi's achievements in Netball since she have started playing the game.

2007
  1. Played the Inter college tournament (represented Jesus and Mary College, Delhi University) and got 1st Position.
2008
  1. Attended the Indian Netball Camp for Commonwealth Games 2010 in February under the foreign coach Lourdes Jayasekera from Sri Lanka and was selected in the best 16 for the further camps.
  2. Represented INDIA in the "6th Asian Youth Championship" in Hong Kong and got 7th Position.
  3. Represented Delhi in "Senior National Championship" held in Delhi and was been declared as the Vice-Captain of the team and got 1st Position.
  4. Played the Inter college tournament and got 1st Position.
2009
  1. Represented India in the "7th Senior Asian Championship" held in Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur from 19th to 28th June, 2009 and got 7th Position.
  2. Went to Singapore to play friendly match series against the Singapore Under-17, Under-19 and Under-21 teams.
  3. Played the Inter College tournament and was the Captain of my college team and got 1st Position.
  4. Represented Delhi University in Inter University championship at Kurukshetra University and was the Captain of the team.
2010
  1. Prachi was selected in the core group of 22 for the Commonwealth Games. Prachi go to Australia for an exposure tour to play some practise matches in February for 21 days.
  2. Prachi Represented India in "India v/s Singapore Women Netball Series 2010" from 6th to 10 June, 2010 and got 1st position[1]
  3. Prachi represented India in the 7th Youth Asian Championship[2] from 3rd to 10th July, 2010 in Thyagaraj Sports Complex, New Delhi[3] and got 1st Position. Prachi was declared as the captain of the team.
  4. Prachi represented India in the Commonwealth Games 2010, Delhi and was the Captain[4] of the team for this big event. Prachi was declared as one of the top 10 glamorous faces[5] of the athletes in the Commonwealth Games[6].

Prachi in Acting

Prachi decided to accept an offer from Shashi Sumeet Productions and make her acting debut with side character role in the highly rated TV drama Diya Aur Baati Hum, on Star Plus channel in January 2016. She lost 15 kg of weight to prepare for the role. Prachi stated her reasons to put her sporting career on hold due to the lack of opportunities and sponsors for female players of netball and basketball in India.
