Jats of Sikar

The following is one of the conceptualisation of how the identity in terms of caste and specific region matters! The Jats of Sikar came to be known in prominence not for any genetic, racial or ethnological superiority that would epitomise into feudal ramparts of the past. In fact, the Jats of Sikar created a present and a future for themselves by actually bringing down these feudal ramparts. The first caste to operate in class conscious manner during the freedom struggle. It had to face the dual disadvantage-one, the Rao Raja of Sikar who did all his best to defeat the peasants movement, second, the British resident also sent his force to quell the revolt. Adding, insult to injury when Gandhi ji was invited for taking the stand against the Prajamandals. He sent his wife Kasturba along with Jamnalal Bajaj only to persuade the agitated farmers. The began the disillusionment of the Sikar Jats with the elitist leadership and it reflects even today with the mark progressiveness that this district has, not only in Rajasthan, but the whole of north India and hindi Heartland. This is the only district where the jats even assimilated the communist ideology, though it is not the Bengal brand Marxism. The sui generis growth of left-wing ideology was a conglomerate consciousness of the people from all the caste, but the jats have had the leadership and therefore had to suffer the most too. The story of Jat boarding is not an reformist one. It became the centre of revolutionary ideology and waging battle against feudalism. The Sikar Jats were the first one to take up the daytime marriage as concept and abstain from wasteful expenditure on marriage and death ceremonies. All these had wider socio-cultural implications for the jats throughout Rajasthan. The list of the famous Jats could have been more inclusive, had the names of the following been included.

1. Com. Trilok Singh Mehla 2. Kishan Singh Dhaka

The land of Sikar has produced hundreds of son of soil that do not find their name mentioned, not to speak of numerous world war 2 veterans.

I sincerely appeal to all the members that this effort has the potential to be raised to an objective academic scholarship and sincere effort to project the image of the community which is haunted by media and newspaperwallahs to malign for every incident where a jat is involved. Otherwise this might go down as a group of intoxicated narcissism that would only put larger jat community at difficulty.
