Delhi today lived up to its dubious image of "crime capital" of India, with four rapes and four murders reported from various parts of the city.
A man and his sister-in-law were arrested in Bhajanpura in north-east Delhi on the charge of criminally assaulting a 17-year-old girl, who lived in their neighbourhood last evening, police said.
Sharafat Ali and Neelam had allegedly lured the girl to their house and assaulted her. A case of rape and unnatural sex had been registered against them, police said.
A 16-year-old boy was arrested in Adarsh Nagar in north-west Delhi on the charge of raping a 12-year-old girl who lived as a tenant in his house.
The boy had been sent to a juvenile delinquent home.
One Mohd Isa (30) was arrested in Dwarka in south-west Delhi on the charge of criminally assaulting his 12-year-old step-daughter last night.
The girl lodged a police copmplaint this morning.
In Sarai Rohilla in north Delhi, one Zakir (25) was held on the charge of criminally assaulting the 14-year-old daughter of his sister.
The girl alleged he had been raping her for last seven years.
A 68-year-old woman Saroj Mohan was murdered in her house in Anand Vihar area of east Delhi by a robber who had been arrested.
In another case, the headless and decomposed body of a five-year-old boy was found in Samaipur Badli in north-west Delhi. The body was yet to be identified, police said. In yet another case, a security guard Valmik Singh (62) was murdered by robbers in Anand Vihar area.
Valmik and another person Dhananjay were guarding telephone cables when five robbers tried to forcibly take them away.
When they tried to stop the robbers, they first hit Valmik on the head and then strangulated him. Police were hunting for the accused.
The body of a woman in her forties was found in Connaught Place in the heart of the city this morning.
The body of the woman, who appeared very ill, did not bear any external injuries and a post-mortem had been ordered, police said.
Meanwhile, some labourers today alleged that one Zaheer Ahmed, a doctor who owned a nursing home in Yamuna Vihar, had killed one of their colleagues.
They alleged Ahmed had pushed Mohd Osin from the roof of the nursing home on Sunday after an argument.
