I agree with M.S Boora jee. The planets will
coincide every 36 years assuming they are aligned to start with.

After 18 years all the three will be in straight line with sun in centre.

Assuming that both planet have the same velocityand Planet 1 is nearest to sun and both will start rotating with initially in a line.

1. after 9 yrs P1 will cover 3/4th of its distance (in circumference) and P2 will cover 1/2 the distance.

2. after 18 yrs P1 will cover 1 1/2 of its distance and P2 will cover 1 times its distance.

3. after 27 yrs P1 will cover 2 1/4 of its dist. and P2 will cover 1 1/2 of its distance.

4. After 36 yrs P1 will cover 3 times its distance and P2 will cover 2 times its distance hence tha answer is 36 years.

Another answer is 18 years with sun in centre and both Planets opposite to each other i.e.,

Planet1
Sun
Planet2
