hello frndz.... here r some links which may b useful 4 some students or researchers... or knowledge seekers

4. IP-to-Country - Mapping IPs to locations

IP-to-Country is a database in CSV file format containing IP address ranges (start / end point in numerical format) accompanied with their corresponding 2 and 3 letter country codes and their country names, all nicely in ISO3166 format. This is very useful if you wonder where your visitors came from and want to use personalisation based on geographical information, you'd probably want to map their IP addresses to their originating countries along the way.

The ip-to-country. ( http://ip-to-country.webhosting.info/ ) webhosting.info database is updated +/- once per month and can be downloaded as a zipped CSV file (wih DOS style line breaks). ( http://ip-to-country.webhosting.info/downloads/ip-to-country.csv.zip )
After feeding the data into a SQL database you're able to query ( http://ip-to-country.webhosting.info/node/view/36 ) the database with your visitor's IP addresses, resulting in a returned country code, most of the time.

Besides giving web developers a great time for letting them create entertaining web gadgets, this also extends into useful functions used for (the automatisation of) personalisation. PHP.net ( http://www.php.net/ ) uses it for instance to suggest a closest download mirror for their web visitors

I found their site useful, but I had to dig a bit throug a forum to get to the relevant information, see the IP-to-Country Handbook ( http://ip-to-country.webhosting.info/node/view/5 ). They also used to feature an online Web service ( http://ip-to-country.webhosting.info/node/view/21 ) , so your code effort could be minimized by doing your queries remotely at their site, but that one is currently offline.

Weirdsilence.net ( http://weirdsilence.net/software/ip2c/ ) shows a nice online implementation too with a demo and source code and binaries in various languages, a forum, etc.

Another source is danzcontrib2.free.fr/en/. ( http://danzcontrib2.free.fr/en/utilisateurs.php ) This shows anoverview of visiting countries like the ones found in web statistics software. But with knowing that it's an ongoing task to keep your mapping list as complete and up to date as possible, it's good to know this one can be.
