This is inofficial Mthod of Win Xp.

If u r having any material like , important docs and u r afraid abt it . dont wory windows XP provides (not officialy ) a utility by which u can hide urs one or more drives .
This utility having lots of function but i m giving u one of them.

Here it goes:-

1. Go to Start > run > type "diskpart".
a dos window will appear with following discription.
DISKPART>

2. then type "list volume"

this will look like it

Volume### Ltr Label Fs Type Size Status Info

Volume 0 F DC-ROM
Volume 1 C NTFS Partition 7000MB Healthy
Volume 2 D soft NTFS Partition 8000MB Healthy
Volume 3 E Porn NTFS Partition 8000MB Healthy

3.if u wanna hide drive E then type "select volume 3"

then a message will appear in same winwods { Volume 3 is the selected volume}

4.now type " remove letter E"
now a message will come { Diskpart Removed the Drive letter }
sometime it requires the reboot the computer .

Diskpart will remove the letter .Windows XP is not having capabilty to identify the unkown volume.

Don afraid ur Data will ramin same .
to Come backe the Drive repeat the process . but in 4th step whish is shown in this post replace " remove" to "assign"
i mean type " assign letter E"

Here is Another Method!

1. Go to Control Panel

2. open Administrative tools

3. Open Computer Management

4 Then Select Storage > Disk Management

5. In the right window it'll show u all the drives in u r HDD

6. Right click drive u want to hide & choose "Change Drive Letter and Paths.. " from the list

7. A new window will open showing u current drive letter..

8. Simply click "Remove" button & click "Yes" in d confirmatin message.

Thats all!!

To make visible any hidden drive... :

8. Simply click "Add" button & select d letter u want for drive!

Yes this process is totally safe and with no risk involved.

The risk comes into picture when you are disk parting for other things like a new OS.

For example I parted my 80 GB hard drive, 50-30 for installing Linux in the 30 GB and make my laptop a dual boot system. There are diskparting softwares which you have to use then. This involves changing the file system from NTFS to some other depending on what you are doing. In these cases, there is always some risk involved as the data might be lost. The 30 GB in my case is also hidden from NTFS or the basic XP OS.

However, if you are just hiding/ renaming volumes/ drives in the same OS and same file system, there is no risk involved.

cheers
