HEALTH CARE OF RURAL CHILD

1. Although 70% of our population lives in villages, only 20 % of the hospital beds are located in rural areas. The health of the rural population is a long- standing problem. Since independence, India has created a vast public health system of sub-centers, public health center (PHC) and Community health center (CHC). There is also a large cadre of health care providers such as Auxiliary Nurses midwives (ANM), male health workers, Lady health visitors and health assistant male. However, The key to the success of the recently launched Government Programs such as National Rural Health Mission and Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan is their ownership by Village Panchayats. The Panchayats, in turn, must be empowered and the Panchayat officials educated and informed. Responsibilities should be assigned and the officials made accountable.

2. Health care, development and education are the most crucial and urgent needs. The Health Care of the child begins with proper attention to the health of the pregnant mother, particularly her nutrition.
3. Safe delivery and immediate care of the newborn are essential components.
4. Various immunizations and proper nutrition during the 1st year and the subsequent 4 years are extremely important.
3. Child development during the first 5 years: The maximum growth and development of the brain takes place during the first 5 years. An environment of stimulation is necessary to achieve full potential of the individual child, which, if lost, cannot be regained.

There are many reasons behind the poor health care system in rural area. But the main reasons are govt ignorance and lack of facilities. Even in the places where indoor admission facilities are there doctors and other staff donot want to stay. Doctors who work in the rural PHCs and CHCs generally have their residence in the nearby cities because adequate facilities are not there in the villages. In summer you have seen the electricity supply in villages compared to cities...so a person who can afford it will obeviously would stay where he is comfortable and it's human nature. Second problem that forces doctors to stay in nearby ares is their childrens education.. A doctor works in far more adverse conditions in the villages but yet donot get adequate fascilities. And in todays world everyone want to live at a place where he has betterbetter facilities, social life, good market and entertainment facilities, good schools for kids education. It's not only anout doctors but applies to everyone.

Here govt can do something by giving some extra facilities and extra pay to the doctors serving in rural area but then our beurocrats donot digest it. So untill and unless facilities are improoved the situstion of rural health services is not going to improove much.
