Hi everyone,
Someone suggested to us (moderators) that we should have a map of all of the villages that consist of Jatland. I thought that it would be a cool feature to have as we could all see how vast it spreads (Delhi, Haryana, UP, Rajasthan, ...) . What does everyone else think? The biggest problem is that we don't have any maps with us. Would anyone be willing to provide them?

Its a brilliant idea indeed....but i do wonder that why such ideas come in your mind only:D :D ....jokes apart....i used to wonder as a kid when my Mama ji used to tell location of most of the villages while discussing with someone and i wished when will i have an idea which village is where? So this will be a good direction to know the parts of our state and others as well of what we don't hear about so often

Long before Sanjay Chhikara posted some map links..This link (http://www.lib.berkeley.edu/EART/india/250k.html)was an excellent link and it showed every minute details..i mean the streets..of all cities and villages of India. But somehow this link has changed. I tried to search more and found this link:
http://www.lib.berkeley.edu/EART/ams.html

One of link in the table is for India but server times out when I trying to open it. Could any one try if it can be opened? It seems that the info we need can be found there.

Also, Sanjay gave one more link which works...here it is:

This is the special effect (looks like fireworks display) which will continue till Diwali season.

Satyeshwar Bhai, suggestion is different - there are a lot of them but any job requires some working hands. Jatland Wiki has a special page attribuited to Jat_Villages (http://www.jatland.com/home/Jat_Villages) where members can themselves add their contributions. This page contains just 100 odd names whereas the Jatland villages' names could be well into 5-digit count. We should first finalise a list of Jatland villages on this page and the idea of maps can follow suit. Most of the members visit Jatland on discussion forums. If a few of them could contribute to Wiki pages, it would be beneficial to readers for academic purposes also.

The other day Dr. S.K. Tewatia had floated an idea that we should collect from members, digital photographs of Jat leaders and those of special events related to them. This is an excellent idea. I have myself collected a few photographs of some Jat leaders which would shortly be put on their respective pages at Wiki. I have already sent these to Laxman Burdak ji who is doing the needful.

Haryanavi and Rajasthani dictionaries are now bilingual. The task of converting Jat Gotras (http://www.jatland.com/home/Jat_Gotras) list into bilingual is continuing and would be completed soon - I have done about 50% conversion to Devanagri and rest is being done by Laxman Burdak ji. This is an important task. For example, if the word 'Tewatia' is written just in English, one may read and pronounce it as 'टेवाटिया'instead of तेवतिया which is the correct pronunciation. I had highlighted this fact to Tewatia ji. Laxman Burdak ji is doing a commendable job at Jatland Wiki.

Nevertheless, someone can take an initiative to coordinate the task of collecting maps of villages which may be added to Jatland web pages later on.

Ramesh, it's just an index where as in my last link, you can enlarge any region you wish to see. I just located my village on the map and many others in close proximity...

It was shameful to find these maps on US univ. site. Actually these maps were compiled by US army during 1913-1933...And we still doesn't have any online directory or a guide for the maps.

Anyway happy viewing..

i believe we can duplicate these maps on our site, as there should not be a copyright on these. once we move to a new server.

There may not be a copyright issue but I don't think there is much use of putting these maps as it is. One of the ideas can be to do a mapping of villages or group of villages on Jatland wiki page. Currently Jat villages names are in arranged in alphabetical order, as an enhancement they can be arranged in order of their geographical location. An advantage would be that there won't be any conflicts in case the name of villages are the same.

Great thing... I guess we can have our members representing a particular dist and then we all consolidating the information under state representatives and putting on server.

Just an suggestion. I would like to volunteer in this exercise and ready to take a task as suggested by you ppl..

Hi All
Its a great idea indeed. I was going through a new feature introduced by ORKUT, which was the map feature where it shows the location of all the people on the map and if you zoom in enough you can actually see who lives where. I don't know how difficult it is to incorporate into our current perception of a map but if it could be done then it'd be simply superb.
It'd give us all information about everybody's hometown or current location and it'll be easier to keep in touch or meet.
Just a suggestion!

Here is the original email that we got from this gentleman. I thought that maybe some of you would be interested in what he has to say.

Put up some detailed maps of the Jatland. Maps in which we can spot every village in the Jatland. Can't find one? Blame it on the Geological Survey of India or the Department of Maps which is somewhere in Calcutta, they have all the detailed maps which were made using the public funds. And now they are sitting on it expecting us to pay for them. Lets say one would buy the detailed map for one region but if you want to explore the whole of India what would you do? Why do we have to pay for gaining insight into our country? Those surveys were done for us, by our public funds. Similarly there is the problem with the Census Data. Why pay for all the public info? If you have any political connections raise these concerns.
