The Jat Regiment has bagged the coveted award for the best marching contingent among the three services at this year's Republic Day parade. The panel of judges also selected the CISF as the best marching contingent among paramilitary and other auxiliary marching contingents.

Raised in 1795, the Jat Regiment is among the longest serving infantry regiments of the Indian army. It has seen action in both pre and post independence eras. The regiment has won five battle honours, eight Mahavir Chakra, eight Kirti Chakra, 32 Shaurya Chakras, 39 Vir Chakras and 170 Sena medals.

The Battle of Dograi fought by the regiment in the 1965 India-Pakistan war is regarded as the finest battle fought by an infantry battalion. The Republic Day contingent this year of the Jat Regiment was led by Captain Sumit Dabral. The motto of the regiment is Sangathan va Veerta.
