Folks,
Please read this suggestions thread before polling:
http://www.jatland.com/forums/showthread.php?t=19186

We are conducting a poll on the 1st one only.
The second one is just a good netizen practice that can be followed by all the members.
As far as the 3rd one is concerned, here is my 2 cents. This is a community portal where anyone can come including women and children. Just use your best judgment about the type of language that you can use in front of them in real life and use a similar approach here. If you start a fight in the real world, people try to stop that as well. The same is true for Jatland. People who have been members at the site for a long time can vouch for the fact that we usually stop people when they are going out of line and forgetting about a code of common sense principles. We cannot list every thing that constitutes common sense as there will be too many to write. Just my opinion....

There should be no Birthday threads at all. We all can wish our near n dears through Fon/e-mail or in person. After such threads are started it becomes a boundation to post on that thread so that the person doesn't feel bad and most of the times we do so even if we dont know that person and the member is not even active enough. No one amng us is so GREAT that should be wished with such a hullabaloo :) Birthday/Anniversary is a highly personal occasion which needn't be made public and the list of Birthdays is already given on homepage and we can wish members in our own PERSONAL WAY....rest upto Administrators

I believe anyways it work... if someone is dedicated then they would surely Wish people pers and it is on the person to respond.... but no harm in throwing a thread up on Jatland(it doesnt really happen oftena nd doesnt require much space) as it really makes people special and some people.. who dont happen to see it on jatland whos bday it is today can also get to know...

However if moderators decide to not to allow to post Birthday threads, my suggetion would be to make whoz birthday column a big more bright so that people can easliy see it.

A personality is bigger than any idendity at jatland ........ why show offs ???

Why don't ppl just punch some keys of their cell to wish them instead of starting a thread at jatland.............. to show off only ?

if a person remembers his/her loved once b'days they can wish them in PM, mail or via phone .... he/she will feel gud to listen that instead of making a news at jatland to show off.

No one is celebrity here !!!

A[B][COLOR=darkred]No one is celebrity here !!!

We do not need to be a celebrity to celebrate... do we? Just because the spellings are similer, meaning isnt.

And even if it gives a feeling to be a celebrity for a day, whole jatland wishing you and everyone knowing you really gives pleasure... so it must go on

Dear Moderator

Before we reach any decision seeing individual optional vote... Please consider that at this time of hour 30 people (Option1+ Option2) are wanting that there should be birthday threads... against 18 odd people in 3rd column.

So majority is in favour, only thing to be decided is the medium to do so.

In my opinion Automated threads would require more space and kill the speciality of occassion as human touch is always better.. so user posted threads should be allowed.

Well, in my point of view, the 1st option ( system generated threads ) seems totally irrelevent here. Here are some point's why i am saying so :

1. How many members have written their birthdays in their profiles. ( Just keep in mind that there are more than 6000 members so far ). How System can manage that. Is sytem is goiong to ask the members who ddin't mentioned their DOB in their profiles via PM or mail ? And what if some members don't want to reveal their b'days ( not a surprize by any means )

2) What about members who left jatland long back but still are members of Jatland. Is it a healthy practice to wish someone who is not visiting Jatland since months or even years.

For e.g. Who is going to wish mr/miss/mrs. X who is not online since last 4 years but still a member of Jatland .....

Is it not a waste of cyber space ?

I am asking again ....... why show offs at Jatland ?

Many members who have voted, may not have gone through the above post which Satyeshwar has also referred to. There, some have even opined that writing of date of birth need not be made mandatory - and that there is no need to write the gender (male/Female) also ! Ridiculous ! Then what is the point for them to vote option 2 ?

The profiles of those who have voted for Option 2, should be checked and those who have not written their d.o.b., their votes should be cancelled.

I do believe some members with suspected fake IDs have voted. I Shall reveal that if contacted via PM.

Such poll threads have been started earlier also and these are only for seeking members' opinions, not necessarily implementing a new decision, unless the votes polled are sufficient. Till now, very low votes have been polled.

I think its fine if some1 wants to make a b'day thread to greet some member cos not everyone likes to wish personally...many of us are not so close dat we wud exchange nos. but wud definitely like to wish. And infact its a great feeling wen u c ppl greeting u and iam totally against 'automated threads' which r gud 4 nothin.
Iam sure it doesnt require lot of space cos such threads are not posted v often and can never be offensive.

Just read once again what is the subject and what is meant by automated threads, Mansi. Automated thread means system is going to start a thread for each and every member of Jatland to wish him /her happy b'day. There are more than 6000 members so far at Jatland ......... so more than 6000 threads ...... doesn't that require a lot of space ???

So, you agree that 1st option is irrelevent ??? ( what i said )

if so than, maybe we had some misunderstanding.

No offence, Mansi.

Those who have voted for option 3 and have their DOBs written, their votes should also be disqualified....... Shouldnt it be a fair game?

In that case, Kindly visit Current Affairs. You will see a lot of threads posted by the system authomatically.. isnt that a waste of cyber space... surprisingly didnt hear ur objection to them... or did i miss some thread recently:confused:

To all, Doesnt birthday mean absolutely anything to you?

Why show offs at Jatland ?
Vj, Whats wrong with you man? I cant understand what do you mean by showoff? Do you mean to say that these all greetings, diwali gifts and well wishes are show-off?

Is it not a waste of cyber space ?
Dont worry about it Vijay. Cyber space wouldnt burst if you wish anyone happy birthday here on Jatland.com. Better look after something which is worth worrying about, like poly bags:rolleyes: . Why are you so worried about a mere < 15KB Birthday thread? Dont you think that copy paste stuff, porn sites and advertisements are a waste of space too? Get over it Vijay, Do good and be good. :(

411 logo ne yeh thread padha hai abhi tak lekin vote dalein sirf 34.

I do believe some members with suspected fake IDs have voted. I Shall reveal that if contacted via PM.
DNDji, I cant understand what you and Ratheeji want us to do here:confused: ? Is it some kind of MP MLA election or what?Vote nahi huve the tab bhi museebat thi, ar ab ho gaye hain tab bhi museebat hai?
And I would like to advise all of you that if any Birthday wish thread pops up you dont have to wish at all if you dont want. If you dont want to wish then just ignore it and move over why are some of you whinging so much?
Postcript:

There, some have even opined that writing of date of birth need not be made mandatory - and that there is no need to write the gender (male/Female) also ! Ridiculous !DNDji,seedha seedha likhne se kuchh nuksaan ho jaata kya? I was referring to the privacy of concerned member by saying so.

I am with koyal on this one!! hahahhaa!

By the way, we already send an email out to each member wishing them on their b'day. Some learned member replied back to us today and he quoted Jawahar lal Nehru: "I was very fond of my birthdays---little did I realise then that these very birthdays will be painfull reminders of the advancing days"

Waise, I have never seen a poll at Jatland before, where all the options were so equally distributed. :)
