Jatland ke garma-garam mahol ko dekhte hue .... ek thandi hawa ka jhoka lane ki kosis karta hun ... pichale kuch ghanto se koe aacha sa thread na start hua aur na reply aae jyada se :) ... so in some lighter words ....addressing this evil of SMOKING in buses.

Aaj subah bus mein aaon tha Rohtak se Delhi, jatlander sameer bhi tha. Mein peeche se 5-6 aage, teeno wali seat pe baitha tha. Sampla ke paas jab bus pahuchi to bus mein beedi ki Mehak (budboo :) kahe lo) faili. Maine bhi peeche ke taraf dekha ki koe bhadra purush ho aas paas peene wala to request kar lun ki band kar de. Na Deekhya manne.

A person and his son were sitting behind me. Wo uncle ji kahene lage ki "Bhai ye beedi phenk dyo jo pee raha hai". (First Approach to the situation)
3-4 minute tak sab chup. Beedi bhi shayad phenk di gae thi. Maka le bada bhala aadmi tha jo mangya, na to sardi mein sare te band hoe pache jee ghotan ka rah ho jya hai bus mein.

Itne mein sabse peeche se awaj aai. "Bada PAKHANDI aadmi hai tun. Mujhe pata hai kitna PAKHANDI hai tun." :(

Sab peeche dekhne lage. Jo uncle they tokne wale unhone bhi dekha ... wo aadmi unki taraf hi muh kare kahe raha tha. Unhone poocha ki kise kahe raha hai .... beedi peene wale ne jawab diya ... "Tanne kahun hun" :). (He was a bald person of age around 45-50 and looking good in status by his pronounciation and clothes)

"Tun yahan BUS Mein hai isliye bol raha hai, neeche utar ke bolta tab janu" he added.

Ab maine bhi kaha ki "Neeche ke karega tun, ke galat kahi hai ... beedi peeni hai to Neeche piya kar bus te". Ek nahi suni usne.
"Manne bera se tera tere balkan pe ee control konya. Chalya hai samaj sudharan PAKHANDI. Tun apne bhaiyan ne to kahe ke dekh le."
Eeb manne bhi nue janni ek le bhai kime inki apas ki jankari lagge hai. ha ha ha

Kae der pache apne te pachle te poochan lagya, "Apne jane hai yo". We nue bole ek mein paheli baar dekh rahya hun is aadmi ne aaj .... ha ha ha ... sare hanse ek bhai thara to pachle janam ka bair hai koe.

Pher we nue bole ek 2-3 sawari bol padein sath mein to ke majal yo kime kahe de. Mere sath aali seat pe baithya aadmi nue bolya, "Tun naukri pe jan dega humne aaj ek nahi :) ha ha ... ghar mein balak issa hojya jib bhi te ootya karein. poori bus mein ek yo issa se isne bhi aut lyo :). Ladai karan ne to kitte kar lyo, jitna ho sake aadmi ne bachna chahiye aaj ka tem na hai nue karan ka". (Second Approach to the situation)

Wo aadmi jo beedi peeve tha uske comments on the serious note:
"Ya sarkar susri itna tax khan lag rahi in beedi-ciggrettan te, isse manas maran ka sauda ho te kyon na band kar deti jama ee banani. Banavegi to hum peevange bhi. Tun issa se te jake Sansad ke aage rooke mar ek ineh band karvao banani. (Indeed having some valid point in his comments ... can say ...(Third Approach to the situation)).

Tun PAKHANDI manne band karvave .... itne uneh kahe ne. Mein sab janu sun jitna tun karm-kand kare hai. Susra Balan ne rang rahya hai er yo meri beedi band karvavega. ( ha ha ha ha )."

Or nue kaheta kaheta wo Karnal byepaas pe utar ee liya bus mein te. Er ye Uncle ji nue kahete ee rahege .... "Mujhe haq hai ki mein apne adhikar ke liye bolun. Teri marji tun manne ya na manne. Par bolta bhi kyun hai" (Shayad aam aadmi ka chehra aur sthiti aaj bharat mein aaisi hi hai ekdum akeli aur eshay :(

Iss beech inhone Driver-conductor ko bhi awaj lagai ki bhai ye gadi roko. Ye beedi pee raha hai. Uneh kana pe ke taar di.

So these were several views towards this particular evil in our society. Dont know when and in what manner this can be acheived. Merely mentioning "NO SMOKING" is not enough. Members can bring their views or experiences towards this.

Smoking in public places is a menace and health hazard. Chandigarh has already achieved the distinction of a no-smoking city, where smoking and selling of tobacco products is totally banned. To some extent, in Delhi also, smoking in buses etc. has come down compared to a couple of years ago. Delhi Metro has made smoking and chewing of pan etc. a punishable offence. When will our Haryanavis improve themselves and when will Haryana Roadways enforce non-smoking?

BTW, the beedi-smoking guy in the bus uttered one good point. Why can't the government ban the manufacturing of beedis and cigarettes, rather than writing "no smoking" everywhere? Hit the root, not the branches of an evil !

Yes you are right.
The government should also ban production of desi ghee (risk of heart attack, clogged arteries). They should immediately close down all halwai shops (diabetes, heart, cholesterol). By the way, heart disease is the biggest killer.
The government should also ban all vehicles because they cause pollution and may cause accidents.
They should also close down all mandirs and masjids - because of fear of communal riots and ask everybody to denounce their beliefs.
Last but not the least, they should ban all men from wearing tight underwear because it might make them impotent or give them hernia.

Deswal sahab, government ka jo kaam hai (bijli, paani, sadak, law and order, education, healthcare)woh to inse hota nahi, aap inse pata nahin kya expect karte ho. In the last 60 years of independence, government interference has done nothing but harm to the common man.

BTW i am also against smoking in public.

Yeh beedi tae maakhi-macchar marte hon tae I am in favor of smoking. :D

Vaise unn DTC/Haryana roadways ki buses mein oon-ey itni bhoondi baans
reh sae...pasine aur ke bera kyan-2 ki...sometimes the beedi waala
smoke actually smellt like an air freshner.

Perhaps we should start having "Smoking Allowed" and "No Smoking" buses.
Pher itni dikat na hove. Lekin with the way our society currently is and
the "everything goes" approach to most everything...it is going to be hard
to prevent this. And especially if this is not a law (is it?).

Having now lived in a no smoking environment for a long time, I personally
don't like it to the point that even if someone who has just smoked outside and comes in the elevator, just the smell really gets to me.

I also agree with the other post regarding so many other things in our society
that are really a nuisance...mandir/masjid loudpseakers for one...and plenty
others...We should tackle those as well....

Ha ha ha .... choh mein kahi par baat theek kahi hai SID bhai. But this is also a Law not to smoke in buses. So govt. should enforce it. Some points that they can do is:

1) Make the driver and conductors accountable for this. If somebody complain to them they should attempt to stop it. I have seen that in Punjab roadways the drivers go very furious and in turn the person have to drop it. Same should be in other roadways too.

2) There must be some phone number displayed all the time where the person can call and his call must be recorded to avoid any action lack. Ab aadmi koe bhi kotahi isliye bardast kar leta hai ki chal yaar kahan kahan dhakke khaonga but if there would be some online number available always then the drivers/conductors would also be active.

3) For the support of driver/conductors there must be some movable force vehicle roaming around in area of 10-15 kms. In becharan te ke bandook de rakhi sein koe ticket pe ya beedi pe ulajh jya to ye ke karenge?

One more incident to quote - Delhi chandgiram ke khade dhore te chadh liye nae rangroot delhi police ke bus mein. Paheli baat to madi mandi hui jibbe bhaj ke latak gae. Pher bus mein baith ke jor jor te gane chalavein er dheenga musti. Conductor ticket ke kahen lagya to bole konya lyan. Usne bus rok di er savariyan ke paise ulte den lagya. we utar liye ... bus pher chala di. traffic jyada tha to pher latak liye. Driver ne aachi bhaja di er darwaje na khole. We latak gae pache. Jib ghuma-ghumu ke peera-garhi pahuche to ek kaan tootya aud MAA ki gaal deke bhundi si bolya driver te. Wo te us din kae savari utargi gail er wo gher liya. Na to in becharyan dhore ke se kuch na.

Its not a big task to stop smoking in buses. Just the govt. should be a lil strict.

Bhai, I think its law atleast in haryana that in roadways nobody can smoke. And if its not in any of the states then also it is not a big issue to bring it having reference to other applied states. Only will is required.

Sorry maafi chahta hu but is baar bhi thoda sa off topic..

JATon ki sabhi cheejon me change aaya hai but apna traditional "HUKKA" wo wahi ka wahi hai.

Waise to a big big "NO" for any kind of smoking...but kuchh bade budhe jo "HUKKA" peete hain...unke liye koi "MODERN HUKKA" hona chaahiye.

Hai ki nahi..?

Nahi to wahi HUKKA wahi handi ki aag, wahi purana dhurana TUMBAAKU wahi uski lumbi si PEEPNI.

Kuchh naya hona chaahiye.......thoda modern lage dekhne me bhi...aur NUKSAN bhi kam se kam kare. Usme lighter wighter hona chaahiye. PEEPNI flexible honi chaahiye...Peepni ki Multiplexing ho jaaye to kay kahne...wah..!
Filter bhi hona chaahiye usme...!

Nahi waise to peena hi nahi chaahiye ... but jo peete hi hain to kyo nahi Shaan se piya jaaye...apna wahi trademark of village royality "HUKKA".

for genX
NO SMOKING ...please

the solutions suggested by bhai jitender r practical ones....but in additon to tht a little coooperation on the part of the "smokers" wud be the best bet in endin this menace.....

bhutan is one country which has banned smoking completely....even the king, who was an avid smoker, paid a fine....
