Recently there have been many additions on WIKI pages on Jat Villages (http://www.jatland.com/home/Jat_Villages), Jat Gotras (http://www.jatland.com/home/Jat_Gotras) and Jat Places (http://www.jatland.com/home/Places) – these pages are now giving a new look. For example, see page on Hardwar (http://www.jatland.com/home/Haridwar) with some recent pictures of that place snapped by me personally during my recent visit, and uploaded on the page. Some pictures snapped by me at Jhajjar (http://www.jatland.com/home/Jhajjar) are also available on this page (Jhajjar). <O:p</O:p

Thanks Dharmpalji,
I have not yet got the books. I will collect from Narendra Kharbji from Gurgaon.

Interestingly the many gotras of Nimach, Mandsaur and Chittorgarh found no mention in any of history books. So I took pains to search them. Earlier I had given many gotras from your history book on jatland list without distribution. Many of them now find the exact locations. That will help to expand Jat history further. I found Varaha gotra only in this area. I am of opinion that Varahamihir was from this gotra.

Varahamihira (वराहमिहिर) (505 - 587), also called Varaha, or Mihira was an Indian astronomer, mathematician, and astrologer born in Ujjain. Varahamihira's picture may be found in the Indian Parliament alongside Aryabhata's, of whom he was a follower. He is considered to be one of the nine jewels (Navaratnas) of the court of legendary king Vikramaditya (thought to be the Gupta emperor Chandragupta II Vikramaditya).

Our knowledge of Varahamihira is very limited indeed. According to one of his works, he was educated in Kapitthaka. However, far from settling the question this only gives rise to discussions of possible interpretations of where this place was. Dhavale [1] discusses this problem. We do not know whether he was born in Kapitthaka, wherever that may be, although we have given this as the most likely guess. We do know, however, that he worked at Ujjain which had been an important centre for mathematics since around 400 AD. The school of mathematics at Ujjain was increased in importance due to Varahamihira working there and it continued for a long period to be one of the two leading mathematical centres in India, in particular having Brahmagupta as its next major figure. [2]
So I have included him in the list of Ancient Jats on jatland Wiki.

http://www.jatland.com/home/Varahamihira

Kindly help in this matter.

Jat Gotras in Jaipur district out of Jaipur city

The Jat Dharmshala Samiti Diggi (Tonk) organized a grand Jat sammellan on 10 June 1998 and published a smarika 'Jat Kalyan Smarika' on this occasion. This smarika has a list of 2380 members from Jaipur district also from adjoining tahsils Phagi, Dudu, Chaksu, Sanganer, Bassi. There are 195 villages and 300 Jat Gotras from these tahsils of southern part of Jaipur district. This list has also mentioned Jat Gotras of the contributors and as such is a useful document for the study and distribution of Jat gotras in Tonk district as well as Jaipur district. The 100 gotra names in Jaipur dstrict are new gotras not yet recorded in Jatland Wiki with any information about them. These new gotras are written with hindi name in bracket. These have been updated and added to the list of Jat Gotras on Jatland Wiki on 8-8-2008. Details can be seen at

I have done listing of Jat Gotras from Jaipur and Tonk districts on Jatland Wiki. Information about these clans can be be seen on Jatland Wiki at

http://www.jatland.com/home/Jaipur

http://www.jatland.com/home/Tonk

These are mostly from Nagavanshi kshatriyas. We had earlier put some information about Jat Gotras of Nagavanshi origin on Jatland Wiki but did not have their actual distribution. Now we have identified the villages in which these gotra people live.

These Nagavanshi origin Jat Gotras find mention in Ramayana and Mahabharata. The references from these epics have been given in the article of the Gotra on Jatland Wiki.

These Nagavanshi origin Jat Gotras and other Jat gotras of very ancient origin have been categorized as Ancient Jat Gotras. Clicking this category in any of these gotras one can access all such Gotras.

Nagavansh (नागवंश) or Nagavansha (नागवंश) or Nagavanshi (नागवंशी) or Naga Vansh (नागवंश) are very ancient and aboriginal kshatriyas. Nagavanshi were tribes which, had serpent as their totem. They worshipped serpents and consider them to be their protector deities. They were in origin indigenous Kshatriyas. They ruled all over India during historic and pre historic time.

Many Jat Gotras find their origin from Nagavansh, which have been listed here. This article also makes it clear why many Jat clans are named after animals and trees. The Brahmanical rishis, authors of Mahabharata and later authors and historians have taken the serpent worshippers i.e. nagas as real serpents, likewise, concocted myths have been added to them and their origin. The Aryans had wars with the aboriginal tribes the names which are found in many Jat clans of today. These Jat clans also show their antiquity as they find mention in Ramayana and Mahabharata. Most of the historians trace their origin in India from Taxila, from where they spread up in other parts of India. Their original seat was Taxila which was also the metropolis of serpent worship and the spot whence it spread all over India.

More information can be be seen on Jatland Wiki at

Jat history in Mandsaur district Madhya Pradesh

Mandsaur district in Madhya Pradesh, situated in the Malwa region, is very important from the point of view of Jat History. Mandsaur and its neighborhood are full of archaeological interest. An inscription discovered near the town indicated the erection of a temple of the sun in 437, and at Sondani near Mandsaur are two great monolith pillars recording a victory of Yasodharman, a Virk Jat King of Malwa, in 528 AD.

I have visited this area on 25-28 August 2008 and provided new facts linking with the Jat History. These are updated on Jatland Wiki along with Photographs. Interested members may see at links below:

Members may have a look on the following JAT WIKI page on Gusainji (गुसांईजी):

http://www.jatland.com/home/Gusainji

Brief -

Gusainji (गुसांईजी) is kuladevata of many communities in India and Pakistan. Gusainji temple is situated at village Junjala (जुन्जाला) in Nagaur district in Rajasthan. This temple is very ancient and of historical importance. Fairs are organized here twice on chaitra sudi 1-2 and Ashwin sudi 1-2. Followers come from Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. Both Hindu and Muslims come for worship here. Hindus call the deity as Gusainji Maharaj and Muslims call as Baba Kadam Rasool.

Request - Jat Gotras who visit this place may write so that it can be added to WIKi. That may help to find missing links of history of the clan.

Dalip Singh Ahlawat writes that Yayati was the ruler of Jambudwipa (Asia). One theory relates Yayati with the origin of Jats. There is a well near Sambhar lake in Rajasthan known by the name of Devyani ka Kuan in which Devyani was pushed into the well due to enmity and Yayati had rescued her from that dry well.

Sevaral jat clans are associated with Sambhar as rulers. Please read on JAT WIKI at

Personal and geographical names in the Gupta inscriptions

This is a book by TEJ RAM SHARMA formatted and taken on Jatland Wiki.

Dr. Sharma has produced a first-rate study on the subject and has covered himself up with glory. Dr. Sharma deserves commendation for attempting an analysis of the culture of the Gupta period from an altogether new angle. His fresh approach has imparted a living warmth to the socio-cultural life of the period. Dr. Sharma has definitely made significant improvement upon our understanding of the Classical Age of Indian history.

Mention of Guptas as Dharan Jats

There is Mention of Guptas as Dharan Jats in this book on pages 16-17. I reproduce content from http://www.jatland.com/home/Personal_and_geographical_names_in_the_Gupta_inscr iptions/Names_of_the_Gupta_Kings_and_Queens

In this context we must note that Prabhavatigupta, the daughter of Chandragupta II and chief queen of the Vakataka king Rudrasena II describes herself as belonging to the Dharana gotra in her Poona and Rithpur copper plate inscriptions. Dharana is clearly the gotra of her father, as the gotra of her husband is specifically mentioned as 'Visnuvrddha' in the Chammak copper plate inscription of Pravarasena II.

This Dharana gotra has been variously interpreted by scholars.

Jayaswal takes it to stand for Dharan, a Jat clan found in Amritsar, and on the basis of the Kaumudimahotsava he concludes that Chandragupta I was a Karaskara or Kakkar jat.

This view has been supported by Gokhale.

Jayaswal emphasizes the similarity between the name of the Dharaniya jats in Ganganagar district of Rajasthan and the Dharana gotra of the Guptas. Chandragomin's grammatical illustration "ajayat jarto Hunan" (The jarta or Jat king defeated the Hunas) has also been interpreted by Jayaswal to refer to the Gupta ruler Skandagupta's victory over the Hunas. Thus the jat origin of the Guptas has been a favourite thesis of Jayaswal.

Readers may identify origin of many Jat clans in various chapters.

I don't know where people are getting "history of gotras" from. But some of it is just unbelievable. For example - take the gotra of "Dahiya". One gotra very common in jats. The link is:
http://anonymouse.org/cgi-bin/anon-www.cgi/http://www.jatland.com/home/Dahiya

Do you honestly think this is believable??

"Dahiyas are said to be the descendants of Rishi Dadhichi ऋषि दधीचि, who gave his bones to the Gods (to make weapons with to fight the demons) in the Dev-asur Sangram."

I see this with history of many gotras. Just does not make sense.
_______________________________

Now if this is believable:

“The Dahi were spread over the whole country (Persia) from the Caspian sea to the Persian Gulf and the Tigris. They are mentioned in the scriptures, [2] among the Samarian Colonists, being classed with the men of Archoe Erech (Orkan) of Babylonia of Susa and of Elam.“ [3] According to Dr. Kephart [19] the Caspian Sea derives its name from the one group of Dahae (Dahiya Jats) known as Caspi. Dahiya are the ancient royal bloodline of jats."
___________________________________

Then whoever has written this has forgot to include this:

"Dahae (Old Persian Dahâ): nomadic tribe in the south of modern Kazakhstan. The name is also spelled Daai, Dai, or Daoi." One of the tribes was known as the Dahâ, which is the Persian word for 'robbers'. This name need not surprise us; nomad tribes often received names like this from the people in the towns who suffered from their raids.

Sir i've a suggestion related to "Wiki" while adding some new words i found few wors that are COMONLY used for both MAN/WOMAN....below is an example....Why noly LADY is used.... it'll be better if we give correct and most apt meaning that are derived from words....फूहड़ is sed for both men & women...not restricted only to LADY. I hope you understand the concern:)

; Foohadd फूहड़ : The lady with no sense of hygiene and who performs all acts in a haphazard manner.

I visited places connected with Jat deity Tejaji such as Sursura in Ajmer district, Kharnal in Nagaur district on 15-16 March 2009.

I have updated articles connected with these May be seen:

http://www.jatland.com/home/Kharnal

http://www.jatland.com/home/Sursura

http://www.jatland.com/home/Tejaji

There are good photos added to each article.

What I felt about Sursura

Sursura - It is situated on Kishangarh-Hanumangarh Mega-highway. Sursura is the village where Tejaji died fighting with the enemies to protect the cows. Tejaji is probably earliest Jat character in the memory of the society in general and Jats in particular. But the place is not in good shape, as great as Tejaji. There is need to develop Sursura as a Unique Mukti Dham of Tejaji.

Suggestions for improvement

1. The Tejaji temple site is situated inside the residence area and approach is not that attractive. The temple is being renovated. According to a shilalekh of donors Shri Balma Ram Badwal of Sursura donated Rs 1.81 Lakh for the renovation. There is need to develop this campus to make it attractive for the tourists.

2. Looking to limited space of the temple campus a new site should be developed on main road and made it Tejaji Museum.

3. More people should come forward to preserve the history and the monuments associated with Tejaji

4. Good example is Jambhoji Dham at Mukam near Nokha in Bikaner district where the Bishnoi Samaj has taken pains to Develop it as a unique monument . I have improved and added images of this Dham. May see -

http://www.jatland.com/home/Jambhoji

Hi Arvindji,

I think we should put a part of our earning which may be 1 percent or as member think fit for the preservation of our history and monuments.

Before independence 80 percent of Jat earnings was snatched from us by Jagirdars.

I think we can save this much amount easily.

There is a need to make a system and channelize the energy and the savings of Jats.

There is a temple in the name of Dhanna Bhagat. We have listed it on Jat Monuments in JL Wiki:

Dhanna Bhagat Jat Mandir, Pushkar, Ajmer, Rajasthan

http://www.jatland.com/home/Ratlam

http://www.jatland.com/home/Takhaji

http://www.jatland.com/home/Bhanpura

laxman ji namaskar,
I want to start a new thread on this topic.I am putting some of the point for the discussions.each point can be elaborate and discussed thoroughly.as i toured allover indie (other than north east)and some other Asian countries.I Found that we are something different.other points can be added in this list ,if feel so:
1>body structure is different from other men/women of other hindustaani casts (they may belong to any religion).
2>walking and talking style is different from other cast ,even staying in same village and speaking same language since centuries.
3>most of the jats (about90%) do not believe in idol worshiping (murtipuja)they may belongs to hindu(vedic)sikh or Muslim panth.
4> there is no subcast system among jats ,wherein all other cast in indian sub continent are having sub cast system.all jats worldwide considerd equal.
5>panchyat or khaap system is present in jats only, gana, khaap or self rule system since yodhey time is present in only jats.
6>this is the only race witch do not consider any body higher or lower to them.other cast of Indian subcontinent consider themselves according to brahmenwaadi cast system.
7>social structure and customs are different then other cast of same village.
8>clothes and other dresses were different.
9>only jats are found in whole Eurasia ,no other cast of Indian sub continent is present in this area.
10>most of the fastivel of jats are related with nature and not with deities.
So we are not belongs to any cast system started by brahmnical patriarch, which ware started some 3000 years back.we are an old race of Aryan stock.

Hope you will carry out minor edits. In the list of clans, some gotra names are seen in red colour like- "Dasval", "Greyval", "Sewach" etc. Hence the hyperlinks are not proper. This is because the English spellings in the original book may be different from the titles given in relevant wiki pages.

A brief Review

The Jats -Their Role in the Mughal Empire by Professor Girish Chandra Dwivedi, is a renowned publication about Jat history and role of Jats during the Mughal Empire. Content from the some chapters of this book is provided here for the study and research on Jat history. The study proves that Paradoxical though it might appear and strange though it might seem, the Jat uprising of 1669 under Gokula occurred at a time when the Mughal government was by no means weak or imbecile. In fact this period of Aurangzeb’s reign witnessed the climax of the Mughal Empire.

Though many erudite scholars like Prof. Jadunath Sarkar, Prof. Kalika Ranjan Qanungo, Prof. Satish Chandra, Prof. Irfan Habib have written extensively on the history of the Jats, there is a feeling that there are many gaps in these studies that come in the way of truly appraising the contributions of the Jats to the emergence of national ethos. The contribution of Dr. G.C. Dwivedi in this respect is outstanding.

A detailed description of the various phases of the Jat rebellion is offered by Sh. Girish Chandra Dwivedi in this book. After thirteen years of its first publication in 1989, the Surajmal Memorial Education Society has updated this work in year 2003 edited by Dr Vir Singh.

About the Book

For an indepth understanding of the history of the Mughal Empire an intensive study of different indigenous powers is essential. The role of powers viz the Marathas and the Rajputs has received careful study from historians. But no serious studies have been undertaken in the case of the Jats of this period.

This study shows that in the Post-Aurangzeb period, the powerful elements at the court found it expedient to conciliate the Jats in order to retain power and to rejuvenate the declining Empire. As the most powerful Indian potentate, Jat Maharaja Suraj Mal occupied a key-position in the evolution of contemporary affairs in the Post-Panipat period. This constitutes a fascinating phase in the annals of the medieval India.

The author, Dr. G.C. Dwivedi has high-lighted the historic role of the Jats in the history of this period. He has assembled some of the rarest evidence available, which the author has telescoped into a knowledgeable and inspiringly readable historical analysis.

In the present corrected and updated edition twenty annotations have been added for clarifying and describing certain facts, names and places based on recent findings.

Dr Girish Chandra Dwivedi has cleared the controversies about the birth and death of Maharaja Suraj Mal created by some biased historians.

About the Author

Late Professor Girish Chandra Dwivedi born on 24th December 1938, did his Post Graduation from Department of Medieval Modern History, University of Allahabad. He completed his Ph.D. under the supervision of Late Prof. Ishwari Prasad, from Agra University. He was appointed as Lecturer in Kashi Vidyapeeth, Varansi, in 1962.

Professor Dwivedi died on 27th May 1979 as Professor and Head of Department of History and Dean of Students Welfare Kashi Vidyapeeth. Dr. Dwivedi’s research articles have been published in several Journals.

Laxman Ji,
I am amazed at the wide sweep that you have taken in compiling Jat gotras. I would like to add my bit on the subject. You have rightly explained one aspect of the Rana Gotra. I may inform you tha t Rana is written as a short form of several Jat gotra having no common ancestry. In fact most of them are on the pattern of the old Sanskrit Gotra names ending in the suffix Ayana such as VAtsyAyana, kAtyAyana. The typical examples of such Jat Gotras are- jatarAyana, kAkarAyana, chaudharAyana, kAkarAyana are jasrAyana etc. The have no relarionship with royalty. The new generation has abbreviated thrgwe respective gotra for some (good?) effect. It is a good disguise to be passed off among the less informed non jats in the cities.

I visited a village Kaytha in Ujjain on 22-9-2009. I was told by local people that it is the birth place of Varahamihira (505 - 587) a great Indian astronomer and mathematician. He received enlightenment here in this village. I searched ancient literature and produced article on Jatland Wiki at

http://www.jatland.com/home/Kaytha

I am of the opinion that Varahamihira was Jat of Varaha Gotra. Varaha (वराहा) gotra Jats live in Nimach district in Madhya Pradesh and Chhoti Sadri tahsil in Chittorgarh district in Rajasthan. Members may read on following pages in Jatland Wiki -

Varahamihir

Laxman ji,
I would like to put the record straight about the connection between Varahamihira and Chandragupt II (C G-II)of the Gupta dynasty. As you have rightly said varahamihira's time is between 505-6 A.D and 587 A.D. But he could not be one of the nine jewels in the court of C. G. II famous as Vikramaditya. C.G.'s reign's known dates are from 375 A.D. (as gleaned from the Mathura Pillar Inscription of the Gupta era year 61, being the sixth year of the kings rule, Indian Historical Quarterly, 18, p.272) and upto 412-13 A.D. (as ascertained from the sanchi Stone Railing inscription dated the 93 year of the Gupta Era, Fleet, CII, III, No. 5).
I have also difficulty in accepting that Jatasura, the name of a demon has anything to do with the word jATa or the Jats. I would prefer not to jump at all sounds having some similarity with our generic name to derive a connection.

Luxman Ji,
With due regard to Shri B.S. Dahiya for the pioneering work done on by him Jat History, I wish to point out that some 29 years have elapsed since the book was published. Lot of research based on new material discovered in the long interval raise serious doubts abourt several theories put forward by Shri Dahiya. In some cases the very premises need to be relooked. Myths and Legends of the Hindus and Buddhists is a book by Sister Nivedita.

Sister Nivedita (1867-1911), born Margaret Elizabeth Noble was an Anglo-Irish social worker, author, teacher and disciple of Swami Vivekananda. She met Vivekananda in 1895 in London and travelled to India (Kolkata) in 1898. Swami Vivekananda gave her the name Nivedita (meaning "Dedicated to God") when he initiated her into the vow of Brahmacharya on March 25 1898.

She was born on October 28, 1867.

She worked to improve the lives of Indian women of all castes.

She died on October 13, 1911 at Darjeeling, India.

On her birthday on October 28 I have started uploading her book Myths and Legends of the Hindus and Buddhists on Jatland Wiki. It may be seen at

Vaidwanji are you commenting on - Myths and Legends of the Hindus & Buddhists book By Sister Nivedita (Margaret E. Noble) ?

It does not mention about Jats at all. It is being uploaded as the Book is by Irish lady about Indian Mythology. It is free from Brahmnical influences. You need to go through it. It does not mention Jatasura. It does not mention about Varahamihira. What is strange about Jatsura and Varahamihira if at all they prove to have some ancestral relation with Jats. If you have your ideas you can write and expand or suggest to improve.

Varahamihir

Laxman ji,
I would like to put the record straight about the connection between Varahamihira and Chandragupt II (C G-II)of the Gupta dynasty.
*************************************
Ranaji,

Jatasura has been mentioned by B S Dahiya. I have not concluded that it is Jat. It may be a person of some Jat clan and asura which does not mean demon in persian. Persian term asura is respectable. Demon is the creation of brahmanical writers. Devasura sangram tells this thing. Both are good people. Jatasura may also be used for an asura with long hair. Is there any historical fact which says he had no relation with Jats? We have brought out information about Jatasura so that we can know if he has got any relation with Jat. Varahamihara is a real person and he is from Persian origin. Varaha is probably his clan and Mihira means Sun which indicates persian origin and Jat connection. Varaha are existing Jats in Malwa which was also the area of varahamihira. It may sound strange but has certain evidences.

Jatasura -Varahamihira

Luxman Ji,
Jatasura was a demon named by Varahamihira. The name has two parts- jaTA and asura.Asura is clear i.e. a demon. The first part jaTA is also simple i.e. a (long) hair -lock. There does not appear any scope or occasion to imagine a connection wih our presnt caste label, jaat and run the risk of calling your self a demon. The alibi that asur could mean oposit of what it came to mean in vedic and later Sanskrit. Please do not shift to Iran/Avesta when we ae examining the text of a Sanskrit text of the sixth century A.D.The simple term jaTAsura, literally meaning a demon with long locks of hair should be left alone.
Allied to this is my submission that te term jATa in the sense of our caste need not be traced in every similarly sounding word of the Sanskrit language. The Sanskrit language has definite rules and not much liberties can be taken in forging connection where it oes not exist. I have separately shown how misplaced the derivations proposed by several writes have been. So please go on with your search/ mision, but it is imporant ot to loose sigh of the central thread of context, histoy and linguistic principles. Otherwise one could derive anything from anything else. But that wil not be god research and cedible history.Sadly what is happening with Jat history is this phenomina-first at the hands of the westerns-largely British and lately our own romantic writers infused with grat spirt of caste patriotism with a kind of vengeance, against the brahmana caste.
Im open to correction on reaon and evidence.

Varahamihira

Luxman Ji,
You suggest that the name Varahamihira has the constituent 'varaha' which could be jat gotra ( as we find today). My only comment would be that in stead of reading varaha as a gotra why not leave it as a normal first part of the full name. That would be in line with the pattern of giving names to persons in ancient and also modern times. Varahadasa's own son was named Vishnudatta (vide Yashodharman's Mandasaur stone inscription). We also know that names generally transcended boundaries of gotra (which is a special identiy).I have no problem if you prefer to place Varahamihira in the Malava region.I may point out that the Mandasaur stone inscription of Yashodharman contains the name Varahadasa of one of the administrators/ministers of the Aulikara family. The Risthal inscription also gives the names of some members of the same family of ministers. As you know gotra is added to a fuller name. It genelly does not complement anincomplete name particulaly as a member of a compound (in a samaasa).I would sugest that we leave 'Varaha' alone as an integral part of the complete name Varahamihira and avoid assigning to him a later day identiy of a caste.

Mr Prashant is not replying my question. What is the origin of Vaidwan his own surname.

I am man of Physics and believe that these are not scientifically correct. Indian history is not based on science. That is our limitation. Jat history has not been recorded rather ignored and distorted.

We have first recorded what our historians have put on record in their writings. We have given their references. We know that many things are not logical or with historical evidences. Our approach is to find facts from these writings.

There are many facts hidden in our mythological stories also. We have to find facts from there also.

I know what Prashant says. He wants perfection. Perfection can not be achieved by speculations.

He has good English. He may not be knowing Gotra history. He may dislike to disclose his own Gotra history. But he can certainly contribute by improving English or Hindi in these articles. If he has faith in Jat brothehood.

Our people are now contributing to this site. By putting simply gotras and villages needs no knowledge of history but it is creating our mapping over the geographical area which we were lacking.

We have to keep the patience and appreciate the people who are devoting time here.

Surely, Luxman Ji, mapping the contemporary Jat gotras geographically is a good thing in itself. And on that account your efforts should be praised. This work can serve as a reference point for further ethnic studies of our community.
But I would like to add a word of caution when the search enters the domain of interpretation and recording history and the tools of linguistic analysis. The methology in such mattes has to be supported by certain well accepted principles.
Further, a hypothesis needs to be proved first before raising the question of disproving it is raised by the propounder. The onus lies on him. I have mentioned this because I have come across such kind of posturing in some of the discussions.Similar is my reaction to citing evidence.Simply because a book is in print its authority in matters of historical validity is not automatically proved. It has to be acceted by historians in geneal. Applauds coming from least knowledgable quares merely on grounds of loyalties of all sorts should not be misunderstood to mean validity.
I would again plead for caution and moderation.

As far as, my gotra knowledge is concerned I want to let you know that i have read almost all of the books that you usually reference in ur articles and I always land up in history section after logging on jatland. But the logic is simple why should i populate the jatwiki with the stuff that doesn't make sense to me. laxman ji namaskar,
I want to start a new thread on this topic.I am putting some of the point for the discussions.each point can be elaborate and discussed thoroughly.as i toured allover indie (other than north east)and some other Asian countries.I Found that we are something different.other points can be added in this list ,if feel so:

Luxman Ji,
With due regard to Shri B.S. In all humility I would not be able to agree with Dahiya at least in his interpretations of Sanskrit texts in many places. So I would appeal to all those who are interested in a really rational and scietific study of Jat history to examine the new material with an open mind and revise the views wherever possible. Some of the areas that come to my mind are -the issue of Vishnuvardhana of Bijaya inscription, the Vik connection of Harshavardhana, the origin of the Vardhanas from the Aulikaras of Mandasor, almost all rulers of ancient India being described as Jats, the several derivations of the term 'Jat' etc. As far as writing authentic history is concerned caste patriotism has to come to terms with facts (which can be interpreted sympathetically with neutrality of a historian).I mentioned this lest there be complascence on our part. Let me confess that dahiya's book is responsible for my interest in Jat studies. I have read his book several times over. All said and done, I compliment him.

Rana ji,

Your point is a fair one. I would like to think Jatland wiki is in phase I of the history compilation project, because of the lack of an accurate historical record (as Burdak ji said).

Indeed, I find hard to discard Prashant Vaidwan's point about somewhat unlikely theories being presented as fact on a few pages, even though his style is uncivil here.

I see it as a two part problem - a. do we have the content in there, and b. is the content itself accurate.

Burdak ji and team have done a wonderful job of content creation so far, especially as a lot of the material is rigorously referenced. At some point we may need to slow content creation down and revisit the content and re-edit it, to make sure it eliminates the more unlikely interpretations, or at least separates fact (eg: data around geography, "recent" history etc) with potential theories, and extensions.

Moreover, the idea of the wiki is that anyone can edit it. If you feel a page can be better organized, or certain "theories" are not relevant, then you should go in an make that edits. Obviously, vandalism is not the point. but it is ok to say - one interpretation is this. this is another. or... XYZ has been suggested by some, but is unlikely coz of ABC reasons.

A civilized debate as is happening in this thread helps greatly, but I see a lot of scope for cleaning up the wiki as well.

No doubt Laxman Ji is doing a great job. But I feel the issues raised by Parshant are also right. Please both dont get offended.

Explanations given by Rana ji are ultimate and logical. Though there are no evidences of historical events but still we must be logical when going for linguistic comparisons. Now one of my friend visited Bhutan and told many similar words as ours but with totally different meanings. So I myself dont have a feeling from inside to read such stuff which is totally based on these linguistic logics. Yes, we can try to find out but the result should be that one will be convinced to read the stuff.

Also I find that Jats are least mentioned or given less space in history. E.g.

Bikaner
http://www.jatland.com/home/Bikaner
Bikaner is a famous historical place in Rajasthan. It was founded by Bika Rathore on the land of Nehra Jat. The Nehra Jat had put a condition that he would give land for the capital of Rathores only if his surname appears in the name of town. Hence the name, Bika + Naira= Bikaner.

http://www.rajasthantourism.gov.in/Destinations/Bikaner.aspx
The history of Bikaner dates back to 1486 when a Rathore prince, Rao Bikaji founded his kingdom. Bikaji was one the five sons of Rao Jodhaji the illustrious founder of Jodhpur.

So if the Nehra Jat thing is right then that should also be included into the govt. site. Can anything be done in this regard by us?

Also, wouldnt the present to past will be the right approach in finding Jats history. Instead of picking ancient granths those themselves have been poluted by many in due course of time by their inputs.

Also there was very solid controversy regarding Gauri's death by wounds given by Jats near haridwar when the other member pointed out that he died 9 years later and won few battles after India's invasion.
to jib 400-500 sal pahele ki hi history mein itni fantasy involved hai to adi-kal ka kaise hum andaja laga sakte hein.

Laxman Ji and others who are contributing to the wikki, please dont get offended when some member point out such things. Nodoubt you are the ones who are the real contributors. But Please look that there are very less members who might be visiting history section regularly and only a person with regular visit and some interest will point out something and that too in its favour.

Nitin

Nitin Dahiya ji/Laxman ji,
I deeply appreciate your spirit of accommodation. Thanks.
With the hope to contribute my mite towards the compilation of material for preparing an authentic and scientific history of the Jats in the context of an over all history of India I proceedd to add, as my notes, at some places in the edit free copy of B.S.Dahiya’s book, Jats: The Ancient Rulers’. With the kindness of the Administrators/ Editors several of such notes were accepted and these still stand there. But soon I found my self debarred from edting any part of the book. My intention was only to post new information for the benefit of the raders to compare the issues dealt with and draw their own conclusion That I think is the purpose of civil discourse.I am not adequately compute savvy. I am just able to manage upto a level. But I would certainly like to understand if I have committed any indiscretion in adding my notes there. But I am of the opinion that if we read B.S.Dahiya’s book or for that any book with out reference to the new material available now,we would be doing injustice to them. I am sure Dahiya himself woud have himself revised his stand had he encountered authentic new matrial. Talking of updates, I would earnestly appeal to seekersof authenicity like Laxman ji and Ravi ji and others to ponder over thmaterial posted by me and form a view and update the write ups about Jats wherever they feel convinced. Please excuse me if I appear to be stubborn.I am writng all this in utter humility.

Rana Saheb,

We appreciate the efforts done by you to write authentic Jat history. We have taken here on Jatland Wiki B S Dahiya's book : Jats the Ancient Rulers for study and research purposes and to make our people aware about Jat History.

We are not authorized to change the contents of the book, these pages are protected from editing. Since this wiki is editable by all members, we may not catch the changes in later stages.

We can do one thing that we create a page Review of the book by Dr S S Rana in the index of the book. You can write review there so that these may be incorporated in later editions. If the administrators agree this step can be useful.

Dear Shri Burdak,

I could not find any mention of the origin of Sheoran Gotra which happens to be my village Sidhanwa in Tehsil loharu, District Bhiwani. This is an important information for all the Sheoran Brothers as they should know their roots. I may, however, clarify that I myself is a Dhankhar but I wish that my village should find a rightful place in the Jat history as an originating place for one of the important clan i.e. Sheoran with whom we have a good brotherhood. Legend has it that there were two brothers Sheora and Sumra who were passing by the place where my village is situated now to find some greener pastures due to a severe drought in their village. The wheel of their bull cart got damaged and they had to stop there. Nearby there lived a Saint named Baba Sidh Nath who advised them to settle there and blesssed them. Sheorans are now scattered over many villages but the main thrust is in my area in about 52 villages. There is a famous Dera in my village in the name of Baba Sidhnath and a huge Dharamshala has also been built (for the pilgrims from other villages and holding the bigger social congregations and Panchayats) with the donations received from devotees which include local politicians as well. These donations run in lakhs every year. I had suggested the villagers that we may construct an Engineering College with the huge donations received but the Baba who controls the funds seems to be reluctant for reasons unknown to me. It is, however, a different issue.

You may like to incorporate this information in the Jat Wiki, if you find worth after verifying its authenticity through your own sources. If any Sheoran Brother has some counter claim, he/she may also provide his/her feedback.

Decline of Vidic culture and revival of Nagavanshis

The Decline of Vedic culture began after the Mahabharata War. Most of the Kshatriyas of North took part in the Mahabharata war and were killed in very large number, the number was so high that a saying came into being that all the Kshatriyas were exterminated. Iranian Nagavanshs, which included Jats, were the first who brought Iron and Iron technology with them. The Iron war weapons were much stronger than the war weapons of copper. This proved their superiority on the Aryan race. The basis of indigenous tribal society was the prevalence of Sangha or republic system, where every member of Sangha was compulsorily a warrior or Kshatriya well versed in the art of using arms or they had a citizen's army. This was the main cause of the downfall of Vedics and arising of Nagavanshis in to power.

A new article has been added to Jatland Wiki. May see more here -

Haryana villages on Jatland

All Haryana villages are now on Jatland Wiki. Style is as under:

Click the district say Ambala

We have here section Tahsils in Ambala district

* Ambala

* Barara

* Naraingarh

Click Villages in Ambala tahsil to see all villages in Ambala tahsil

If you want to see villages in say * Barara . Click the active link. That will lead to Barara page. Here we have list Villages in Barara tahsil .

The pages with active link are about existing village articles.

There ia map upto tahsil places. You can add map to villages which appear in these maps.

This will help in searching villages on Jatland Wiki and developing their history.

Fix villages - There are some villages which lead to place of the same name but in different district. Say Alipur. There are many villages by this name so we have to fix it like this - Alipur. This way it will lead to Alipur village in Ambala district.

Sir
We can get Voter list also from few sites.
But i have a question that Jats are only 25% of Population of Haryana That means there are only 25% jat villages and in those villages there must be Other castes this term jat village is same as jat jokes This gives confusion better we opt for Vilages in Haryana UP Raj. etc rather then Jat villages.

Rakeshji, it is a good suggestion. All are not Jat villages. Separate article is there for Jat village which is differently categorized as Jat Village. Here all kinds of villages are there so we have to put general category. Thsese can be as under:

Back to Haryana

or

Back to Rajasthan

This can be copied and pasted on Jat Wiki in each Tahsil place.

I have updated a historical article with rare images: About Gurbaksh Singh Dhillon

Gurbaksh Singh Dhillon (b.March 18, 1914 - d.February 6, 2006), popularly known as Col. G.S. Dhillon, was an officer in the Indian National Army who was charged with "waging war against His Majesty the King Emperor". Along with Gen. Shah Nawaz Khan and Col. Prem Kumar Sahgal, he was tried by the British at the end of World War II in the INA trials that began on November 5, 1945 at Red Fort. Dhillon also played an important role in the Indian independence negotiations.

Districts, Tahsils and historical places of Punjab with maps

In the article on Punjab at http://www.jatland.com/home/Punjab

We have table of Districts and Tahsils of Punjab with links to each dist and tahsil.

From this page we can access to all districts, tahsils and villages in tahsils in Punjab

While scanning and providing links to villages in Punjab we got very interesting information about ancient places of Mahabharata period.

Interesting information about Jat Gotras in Punjab is that we have villages after the clans. We get villages in almost all districts after clan names say Gill, Maan, Cheema etc.

This trend was there in Mahabharata period when tribes and their habitations were known by same identity.

Earlier we created pages about Jat Gotras from list provided in book Ādhunik Jat Itihasa (The modern history of Jats), Agra 1998 by Dr Mahendra Singh Arya, Dharmpal Singh Dudee, Kishan Singh Faujdar & Vijendra Singh Narwar.

We did not have info about their distribution in Punjab. Now we have expanded these pages with actual distribution. Many gotras had originated from place names. Now after complete scanning of villages and providing links to each village in the state, we have all villages on Jatland Wiki. You can search now and expand if you have more info. All Villages are listed in Tahsil page. Blue and Bold links have pages here on Wiki.

Many common named villages are blue but with misleading links. These are to be fixed as explained in Haryana update.

An interesting fact about clans was observed that some very minor clans with limited distribution in Punjab have also existence in Marwar area of Rajasthan and Malwa in Madhya Pradesh. This trend shows the migration of Jat clans.

http://www.jatland.com/home/Category:Villages_in_Barmer

Note - Kherwara is a town and tahsil in in Udaipur District in Rajasthan. It needs to research its relation with Khirwar Gotra.

Jātrābāri is a populated place in the Barisāl region of Bangladesh.

The previous name of Jatrabari was Brammonchiron when the best way of reaching this place was a water vessel. In the past, when there was no TV, cinema and electronic entertainment media, the Jatrapala (local Bangla form of drama) was very popular place for recreation. In this area there is a famous Jatramondop. Because of the wide practice of jatra culture, the place name became Jatrabari.

Jatrabari has become one of the one the busiest streets of Dhaka City. Thousands of people visit the place as it is a connection point with a number of districts. There are always huge traffic jams particularly as the street market has captured the footpath illegally. People cannot move easily in Jatrabari.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Singh Hindi: सिंह singh, (Punjabi: ਸਿੰਘ, Gujarati: સિંહ sinh) is derived from the Sanskrit word Siṃha meaning "lion". It is a common title, middle name, or surname in Northern India used initially by the Kshatriyas (warriors). In 1699 the name was adopted in Punjab by adherents of the Sikh faith, according to the wishes of Guru Gobind Singh.

Singh was first used as a surname by Ahir kings of Nepal and later by the Gurjara-Pratiharas beginning in the 7th century. James tod says that it has been common practice among the Rajput men to have Singh as their middle name

Sikhs never claimed they started Singh. Guru Sahib when visited Rajasthan and nearby areas saw people using this and when he came back asked every one to use this. Singh for a boy, Kaur for a girl. He wanted casteless society that's why he didnt want people to use their surname. But still people use it and discriminate on its basis. But some true followers still dont use their sirnames.

This "Ram" name was, as told to me by a brahmin, is advised by the brahmin while giving the name to the baby. He would say "Ladke me bhagwan ka naam laga dena", hence people use Ram. This is what a brahmin told me years ago.

I was searching old records. We have one article on Bigga Ji Jakhar (1301 - 1336) - Folk-deity of Jangladesh area of Rajasthan.

It means some Jats used Singh surname in 13th century as is clear that Grandfather of Bigg Ji Jakhar was

You can see it on Jatland Wiki at http://www.jatland.com/home/Bigga_Ji_Jakhar

http://www.jatland.com/home/Jaamun

God has blessed India with rare trees, plants and herbs which could give new life to any ailing human being. Unfortunately, our present-day school education does not teach us even a tiny particle of our traditional knowledge of medicine which has been continuing since Vedic times.

One wild plant which is so commonly found all over India and has exceptional medicinal value, is ‘Aak’ which is a small to medium-sized shrub. The generic name of this plant is Calotropis and its two common varieties are Calotropis gigantean and Calotpropis Procera.

Except for the common notion that Aak is a poisonous plant which could lead to blindness if its juice (milk) is put in the eyes of a human being, very little is known about this phenomenal plant which, actually, has the highest medicinal qualities.

I have prepred wiki version of another book of Swami Omanand named घरेलू जड़ी बूटी -आक and uploaded at Jatland Wiki. It can be read at the following URL:

http://www.jatland.com/home/Aak
