Hi all
very sad news on front of a medal hope in olympic.

After Sania Mirza and Rathore lost its again sad news for Indians.
Saina nehwal lost to indonesian opponent in Quarterfinal.
I was watching her match in the morning before office and got late to office.
She looked little nervous and thats where she lost.
She needs to learn have better control on nerves.
Anyway well doen on her part, she is young and can do better next time.

Mangal Singh Champia who stood 2nd in first round won the second round as well but after few minutes lost in 3rd round.

Lets hope others do good in upcoming events.

Akhil Kumar / Jitender have raised expectations.

http://www.ibnlive.com/news/olympics-study-reveals-why-india-cant-perform/70441-29-52.html

A new study now claims to find out why Indians can't perform at the Olympics. Indians have once again pinned all their hopes on its athletes as the Olympics is scheduled to begin next week.

According to a study by Anirudh Krishna and Eric Haglund, two development experts at the Duke University in the US, low social mobility is the key reason for India's failure at Olympics.

Low social mobility means that the pool of people who can "effectively participate in sports" remains small.

As per the study, the reasons for low social mobility are poor road connectivity between the rural areas and big metros and poor radio and other information networks that keep the masses ill-informed.

Huge population, too, has little to do with winning medals at Olympics. Going by population size, the United States should have won 43 while, smaller countries like Jamaica should have won nothing. India should have won at least 157 medals in the 2004 Olympics, going by its huge population size.

However, at the end of the Athens Olympics, the US won almost three times the number of medals, Jamaica won five medals, while India won just one medal.

The question that many people ask is, why India fails to deliver in the Olympics.

Common logic would suggest that it is because Indians are poor, and thus more engaged in a daily battle for survival.

However, the new theory suggests otherwise. It is poor social mobility because of poor infrastructure that leads to poor performance at the Olympics.

The study cites the example of Portugal, which despite being a rich nation failed to win a single medal in the 1992 Olympics. However, as radio connectivity grew over the next four-years, Portugal managed to win two medals and has never drawn a blank ever since.

The bottom line according to the study remains that better-informed people, perform better.

Sports critics agree that if India has to win medals, it will have to realise the potential of athletes in rural areas.

“Take the example of Pele or Maradona or the American athletes or the basketball teams. Nowhere do the best players come from big cities and they come from background which is not affluent,” says Pradeep Magazine, Adviser HT Sports.

The new research only proves that if India has to win more medals, it is time to realise, that the road to Olympics goes through a village.

i mainly think is the lack of world class infrastructure which is comparable to whole world and how cheaply they are available to common man.

india lacks infrastrucutre .....

hoping to win a medal is false hope ....

if india doesnt improve its infrastrucutre then it shd look sports like trap shooting ... 10 m rifle which are not much developed ( medal keeps on changing in that also because of poor infrastructure ) .. kabaddi ....
wrestling on soil etc.... gulli danda .. kanche....

analysts can give the false claims that india can overtake china ....
china has made its infrastrucutre comparable to all world long time back and now they competing with US ...
i dont think india overtaking china in many fields .....

when managing of so many ppl is required i feel that democracy like india cannot bring fruitful results

Bhai pannu
wat u mean by few un-indian voters here?

India show is getting better.

But its not as per the population proportion of india in rest of the world
poor countries like jamaica are doing better than us.

our policy makers should now take initiative
Its high time for sports in INDIA. Everybody is cheering up.

We should make sure this happyness and moment of cheer can go long way.

the day when Bindra won GOLD my roommate said " its over for india. Ye har baar ek medal lekar aate hain, Is baar ka qouta pura ho gaya, ab ek bhi nahi aayega" to maine kaha tha " bhai is baar ek nahi 5 lyawenge" then i started this thread. Aur bhai chhore chha gaye. And now whole country looking forward for for improvement in sports infrastructure and training facilities. Motivation and proper training can make us leader. We have the talents but not the toll to sharpen them..

Our soprts minister Mr. Gill qouted yesterday in a TV interview " hum log kuch badi companies se discuss kar rahe hain. Companies ko sports promotion ke liye aage aana aana chahiye. Kuch companies iske liye taiyar hain. Lekin ab tak unke paas koi hero nahi tha. Beijin gne hamei hero diye hain. Hopefully hum ab aage badh payenge. Ek company ke liye saal ka 50-60 crore kharch karna koi badi baat nahi hai. Hum 2012 London Olympic ke liye abhi se taiyari karenge."

Its a positive sign. I heard first such things from sports minister.

Lets hope for better performance in London 2012 Olympics.
