Punjab girl Heena Sidhu shot a career-best score in competition to clinch her second consecutive gold in the junior women's 10m air pistol event in the ongoing International Shooting Competition at Munich on Saturday night. The 19-year-old second-year Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) student from Patiala shot a superb 388/400 in qualification and then fired 98.4 in the finals to aggregate 486.4.
Heena had also struck gold in the first match of the competition on Thursday with an aggregate score of 486.2 --- also her personal best. She had shot 384 in the qualification and an amazing 102.2 in the finals. The 'double-gold' feat is all the more significant as it has been achieved in an International Shooting Sports Federation (ISSF)-recognised competition.
Heena's superb run this year began when she had no 'teething' trouble on way to gold in her first year as a senior at the National Championships in Thodupuzha (Kerala) last month. She clinched her maiden senior National title with clinical precision, aggregating 481.8. There she had pushed here more illustrious state-mate, 2007 Bangkok World University Games gold-medallist and national record holder, Harveen Srao to second spot. Sidhu had shot a 384/400 in the qualification and despite two poor shots — of 8.7 and 7.8 — in the finals she was an easy winner.
At the Nationals in Ahmedabad last year, she had bagged gold in the junior category.
