Guys, World Boxing Championship is going on in Italy. Haryanvi lad Jai Bhagwan has made it in Pre-quarter of 60 Kg while Akhil is out of tournament due to wrist Injury with Jitender, Manoj Kumar and Asian Champion Suranjay have lost their bouts. Nanao beat his opponent with 21-6 to make his way in to next round. Vijender is yet to come.

Indian footbal team winning Nehru Cup 09 in a spine chilling match against Syria was just a treat to watch. Morever, Ambedkar Stadum was full packed. A good sign for over all sports. Coming Common wealth games would help more for underlooked sports.

Congratulation to Jai bhagwan and Indian Football team. I saw the football match but i must admit we were lucky that we didn't loose the match in normal time.Though it was a good achievment considering the poor facilities, lack of foresight, planning and thinking that go into the making of Indian football. Looking at the fact of packed stadium its obvious that Football is growing very fast in India. We need to build upon this success and should carry this performance at internationals tournaments outside India.

Akshay bhai in football we r ranked 147 . highest india ever had.
Indian footbaal team went to a tour of itlay . where they played matches with third division teams , in them also they lost all the matches, their achievement was that they scored 1 goal in all the matches
the player who schored the goal was exited and saying it as of he won the man of the series...........
BY THIS U CAN UNDERSTAND THE LEVEL OF INDIAN FOOBAL:oL OR FUSSBALL:o

All the best to vijender.

Well, You might think it's a good time for Indian Sports but actually there are some very disappointing incidents that have taken place in the background.

Football----
Striker Sunil Chhetri was invited by a Second division club to play in England, which is quite an honor. I mean for a country like India where no one willing to pay a dime to watch soccer (except Goa,WestBengal, kerala). So coming to the point, Sunil was refused British work permit visa just because their law says 'to invite a player from overseas to play in such a league his/her country should have a FIFA ranking of not more than 70'. India is somewhere around 160 something.

Formula 1----
Vijay Mallya's owned team Force India put up its best ever performance. Securing a pole position and there after finishing on the podium. Force India scored 8 points courtesy to Italian Giancarlo Fisichella. Now, an old fart named MS Gill, shrugged off Mallya's bid to host Formula 1 race by saying "Formula 1 is not a sport". That left me flabbergasted and thinking if Chess and Golf could be classified as sport then why not F1?? What a tool he is. After screwing the national game Hockey he is now ruining F1's future in India. To me F1 surely does pump adrenaline, gives you goosebumps to see a car, which is not even knee high, at 0.3mach.
God, inject him some wisdom through his turban :thappad
We've gotta separate politics from sports if we want to excel. But unfortunately, no one is even bothered and things are standing still, people are happy watching cricket cricket and cricket.
I hate to see people like Suresh Kalmadi being chairman of Indian Olympic committee who has not even done any kind of sport in his life. Sharad Pawar, tosser doesn't even speak properly and control cricket. What a pity.:(

Agree with you that MS Gill's statement on F1 was stupid. But don't credit him for screwing up Hockey. That credit goes to KPS Gill. MS Gill, from what I remember, did his best to get KPS Gill out. MS Gill is also supposed to be a good administrator (from his stint as CEC) and made the right noises when he became the Sports Minister. But unfortunately, the situation on the ground hasn't changed much.

ALRIGHT!!!

So the Vijender dude has stormed into the World Boxing middle weight (75 Kg) semis, ensuring a bronze medal (of course hopefully this time he should go for the full jugular as he is also seeded number one in that event!)

...With lots of hard work and accolades and laurels; comes money!!! :D

Good going; apparently Vijender Singh has now become the first Indian boxer to ink a million-dollar sponsorship deal! Bringing him in the leauge of the high paid Cricketers of the country.

Vijender, who by the way is the world number two, may also be the first boxer (Indian or otherwise?) to have inked such kind of a deal.

What? I didnt know we even had a 147 countries in the world. Does the ranking include, Zombies, Martians and other green-blooded aliens (assuming they are ranked ahead of us)?

Whoooopsiedaisy! Blue Blistering Barnacles and Ten Thousand Thundering Typhoons!!!

Unfortunately Vijender Singh failed to better up on the bronze he had ensured (as was noted here earlier) for India as he lost out 3-7 to Uzbekistan's Abbos Atoev in the middle weight semifinals of the World Boxing Championships in Milan, Italy today! (BTW Vijender had earlier beaten Atoev in the Asian Championships in June in China!) :(

Anyways; after all with the Bronze he did break the jinx for Indian boxers on the world level at least by earning a medal again where it counts!

I guess this is something new to share.
