I was surprised to see the below mail in my Inbox. I was really surprised that Jatland.com is mentioned in the mail. Has anyone else also got such mail? The mail is sent to an undisclosed recipient list so I believe this list includes more than one name(email id).

On a more serious note , knew it is spam , have had experience with hackers/spammers already. Ek google mein baitha sai mera bateu ( mera friend hai , batchmate) jistai niri cold coffee pilaa raakhi sain :D tai gmail account ko to koi khatra nahi !! :rock

Well Samar, the issue is serious........ however much you or me want to downplay it.
The mail ids on JL are in our profiles which is not visible to all, that implies that the profiles are being hacked and this also means that other informations like your (mine as well) telephone no address and other details are available to anybody else on net...... they are either hacked or leaked by someone who is privy to that.
I don't know about the others but for me I visit any website if that is secure and the information provided by me is protected.

For me there is no khatra to izzat...... but when somebody from among us will complain about the information on matrimonial section being available to someone who is not supposed to have access to those(might have happened as I m writing this post) then we will be discussing the issue of izzat......... abhi nahin.........

Part of the reason why some of you could have received these emails was that we were showing email addresses in the Matrimonial section without anyone having to log on. This would enable screen scraping bots to find out email addresses and then spam people. This was obviously a hole and we have fixed it now. Thanks for pointing it out. The jatland forums are very secure in themselves, however if members do find something suspicious, please feel free to point it out through the "Contact Us" link.

Well, my concern was to bring this to admins notice as well as to confirm whether I only got this mail or others were also equally fortunate.

On a serious note. I do not have any profile in matrimonial section. I had displayed my email id only in my profile, which I have removed now. So, again I would like to point this out as Anil said, hole is somewhere else. We need to take this seriously. This is just a spam and didn't create much problem but such things should not be taken lightly. As per my knowledge, I guess it may be
1. a prank(although cheap) by some JatLander or
2. a security loophole which we need to take seriously and correct that, or
3. within the reach of some dickhead hacker :)

The problem is that Jatland is an open site. Which means anyone can go read anything they want. If you provide your email addresses in posts, spammers can indeed find them and spam you. We can only protect so much. My suggestion to everyone is to not put your email address in things like signatures or posts. Use PMs, emails etc to do so. If you do get an email like this, just ignore it (never reply back) or use "Report spam" buttons in your email client if they are present.
