Dear Bros & Sis,

JAI BHAGWAN,
JAT BALWAN,
JAT PEHALWAN,
RAHEN SADHA MAHAAN.

The above is the slogan coined by my Rakhi brother Venkat.K of Mumbai:). This slogan was true during the last two months when our Haryanvi Jatni Pehalwans who make up the bulk of our women's wrestling team, won both the Bhagat Singh Memorial Tournament in Nov 2009 and the recent Commonwealth Wrestling Tournament 2009 held at Jallandhar, Punjab.

I give below the Email sent by Venkat to me to be put in our Jatland.com

Dear Devika,

Iam real happy to inform you that our wonderful and brave women's wrestling team won the recent couple of tournaments Viz Bagat Singh Memorial Wrestling Tournament and the Commonwealth Wrestling Championship 2009. Please put this good news in your very informative Community website www.jatland.com (http://www.jatland.com).

I saw all the bouts of Wrestling by our Glorious Women Wrestlers. They were simply superb. It was such a pleasurable sight to see Indian Women Wrestler's Victorious Arm being lifted by the Refree, resulting in our Tri-Colour being unfurled and our national anthem sung. I do admit that when they get on to the Mat, looking frailer than their opponents, my heart races with fear and anticipation.

Yes, the Ghoris and Kaalis were strong & ruthless but our women were swift and smart. Indian women need to come to terms with the Jap women as well.

It was really sad to see our women helpless in the super grip of Scot Woman in 67kg and African woman in 72kg. It was the same story for the Lovely featured Nirmala Devi (48). The Gold literally kissed the tip of her nose and fell around the neck of her brutish African rival. It was sheer Bad-Luck.

But Geeta, Babita and Alka Made up for all this and made Indian women win the tournament by showering the Nation with Medals of Gold. Geeta Kumari (55kg) was simply superb and clever. Her younger sister Babita too was really good. They defeated their much fancied Canadian rivals.

I spoke to the coach of the Indian women's team. He has promised to send me a CD of their Bouts and on recceiving it, I shall put the same in the www.youtube.com (http://www.youtube.com). So that the entire nation can see them and support them.

Likewise I also spoke with Sonika Kaliraman's brother. He informed me that Sonika will surely play in the Commonwealth Games 2010. Sonika in all probability has started training in USA. Sonika will add more strength to our women's team and also boost their morale.

May God make Indian women Wrestlers World Champs and keep them that way

Venkat.K
