मैंने देखा हैं के लगभग सारे उत्तर भारत में जाट / जट्ट पगड़ी बांधते हैं मसलन जम्मू कश्मीर , हिमाचल , पंजाब , राजस्थान , हरयाणा , दिल्ली पर जब नजर जमुना पार जाती हैं तो वहा जाट के सर पर पगड़ी की जगह "गाँधी टोपी " नजर आती हैं | पगड़ी जाट की आन बान शान का प्रतिक हैं | पंचायतो में पगड़ी की दुहाई दी जाती हैं | जाट के यहाँ जब परिवार के मुखिया का देहांत होता हैं तो उसके तेहरवी के दिन उस मुखिया के उत्तराधिकारी के सर पर परिवार की पगड़ी बाँधी जाती हैं | हमारे बुजुर्ग तुर्रेदार पगड़ी में बड़े रोबीले दीखते हैं | फिर इन जमुना पार वाले जाटों की पगड़ी किसने उतरवाई ? किसने इन जाटों की पगड़ी गांधीवादी सोच के गिरवी रखी ? जमुना पार के राजपूत भी पगड़ी रखते हैं फिर जाट की पगड़ी किसने खोल दी ? जाट और गांधीवादी कुछ बात हजम नहीं होती | पगड़ी ही उतार दी जाट ने तो फिर रह क्या गया |

Such caps are still worn by a large segment of Indian society without any political significance. The cap gained significance after it was regularly donned by Gandhi, whose popularity was rising fast[citation needed]. Gandhi's homespun khadi attire of traditional Indian clothes were symbolic of his message of cultural pride, the use of Swadeshi goods (as opposed to those manufactured in Europe), self-reliance and solidarity with India's rural masses. The cap became common to most followers of Gandhi and members of the Indian National Congress. A connection to the independence movement was implied when any individual wore the cap in those times.
Prisoners in South African prisons classified as "negroes" (a category into which Indians fell while Gandhi was in South Africa) also were required to wear similar caps in prison. Gandhi's close friend Henry Polak cites Gandhi's time in South African jail, where he was classified as a "negro" and thus required to wear such a cap, as the genesis of the Gandhi Cap.
Similar caps of black colour were adopted as uniform by the activists of the Hindu Mahasabha and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. Nationalist leader Subhash Chandra Bose wore a khaki, brown coloured cap of the same design to symbolise his militarist convictions and generalship of the Indian National Army.

रही बात उत्तर प्रदेश के जाटों की तो जो बात यहां के जाटों में है, वो बस अलग ही है. यहां के जाटों की मेहनत और पराक्रम की बदौलत ही इस क्षेत्र में और यहां के जाटों में कोई भी कमी नहीं निकाली जा सकती. गरीब, निर्धन पूर्वी उत्तर प्रदेश है, पश्चिमी उत्तर प्रदेश नहीं. कई मायनों में तो पूर्वी उत्तर प्रदेश में भी बहुत-सी खूबियां हैं. जाट चाहे कहीं का भी हो, यदि वो कोई अच्छा काम करता है तो उससे सभी जाट सम्मानित होते हैं और यदि किसी भी राज्य का जाट कुछ बुरा करता है तो फिर सभी जाट अपमानित होते हैं. उत्तर प्रदेश के जाटों ने जाट जाति का सम्मान बढ़ाया ही है, घटाया नहीं है. छिटपुट घटनाएं तो सभी जगह होती रहती हैं.

पहनावा, खानपान, बोलचाल और रीतिरिवाज, समय और स्थान के साथ बदलते रहते हैं !
हरयाणा में भी अब पगड़ी का इस्तेमाल निरंतर घट रह है ! कारण चाहे कुछ भी रहे हों, लेकिन ६० और ७० के दशक में जितने लोग पगड़ी बाँधते थे , उसका आधा भी लोग अब पगड़ी नहीं बाँधते !
शादी विवाह के मोकों पर लाल/ प्रिंटेड पगड़ी पिछले एक दशक से ही शुरू हुआ है ! राजस्थान में रंग बिरंगी पगड़ी पहनते हैं, जबकि हरयाणा में सफ़ेद !
पंजाब में पगड़ी सिख आस्था का प्रतिक है ! इसीलिए हम कह सकते हैं कि वहां के लोग धार्मिक आस्था के फलसवरूप ही पगड़ी पहनते हैं न कि सामाजिक कारणों से !
इस्सी तरह, पश्चिमी उत्तर प्रदेश के जाट व् अन्य जाती के लोग टोपी पहनते हैं, जिसके बारे में उपेंदर भाई का लेख विस्तार से प्रकाश डालता है ! लेकिन उतना ही सच ये भी है की टोपी का इस्तेमाल वहां भी निरंतर घट रह है !
