Honor killings exist in our jat samaj.
There are various reasons, family rivalries, getting rid off daughters, protective perceived honor, as a punishment for going against orthodox traditions e.g. inter-cast marriage, same gotra marriages, same sex relationships, illicit relationships, etc.
Are these killing justified? (NO)
Is existing law sufficient to prevent them?
Is the level of awareness in masses and enforcement force is sufficient?
Are khap mute spectators? why dont they pass a resolution against them? why they even silent support this? e.g. khap may oppose same gotra marriage but they must also oppose and issue resolutions (fatwah) against extra-judicial honor killings no matter what.
