bhai sahab kati sachi bat keh di hai..........

now a days people want to hear punjabi, hindi or english music but no one want to listeh raagni's.saangs are almost gone.there are only a few people who might hav seeen a saang.

because of the discrimination against jaats, many people have stopped writing their sirnames.

after living in punjabi families, the culture of keeping fasts ,mehandi lagwana etc are increasing.people in villages are also influenced by this.another reason for this is TV culture.after watching something on tv,people tries to follow that.

people living in other regions then north dont even tell their chilren that they are jats or wat jat means.

now a days i hav seen people trying to speak haryanvi(non jats or in places other then haryanvi), in movies their is a increase in the use of haryanvi or haryanvi tone to show dhakadpan(cool attitude),their are many serials based where haryanvi is spoken but still our people are trying to forget it.if a child learns two or three haryanvi words then they are admonished.if some one speaks haryanvi in a party or gathering then people tries to avoid seen with that person.i hav experienced this thing personally.

sometimes to a new person i says that i m a farmer (which is true) then his mouth remains open for some time and will be asked same question till i say sumthing else.and i didnt get this thing that why a person cant be a farmer????? whats so surprising in it????

very right brothers......well said.....if someone speaks in punjabi then he is understood cool but if someone speaks haryanvi he is understood vulgar.......we are being influenced by punjabi culture. Sometime when in company of my seniors i could not attend phone from my home as our language is not thought good in civil society. I think most of JATs on top positions of management would have ever shown off that they are JATs. JAT people who possess a good social status in civil society should interact sometimes in JAATU so that our language can be promoted.

I have also faced discrimination in interviews as most of the sardars prefer person from their culture but the same is not in case of JAT. I got lucky as my ser name matches with punjabi's ser names. Even most of the person around me thinks me punjabi due to its likeliness to punjabi's ser names. I dont disclose them the truth as I would lose my prestige........roti ke liye mazboor hai.....

Will we ever feel proud in calling ourselves JAT in civil society?

thanx for ur reply sumit. its not strange that we do agree with all facts i hv mentioned earlier but we lack guts to accept the reality. nice to hear that u r an agriculturist. its the top n divine job yaar. my father was also had a great interest in farming. although he hd attain MA n LL.B. n practice in civil law he could not supress his interest. we have good land so he started managing agriculture along with his advocacy. he was the one who started growing different crops when nobody dares to go against the conventional crops. foreign delegates used to visit our fields. it was amazing. i m also a lawyer practicing at rohini courts delhi. but spend some quality time at my farm whenever i got free. zameen se jude hai jat, zameen pe chalte hai jat, we are special. apart from this, i also wanna say that i dont have any prob with hindi. but we should never sacrifice our haryanvi language over hindi. i know many person who hs got glib in english and also fond of speaking in haryanvi. bye n take care

dagar saheb, jatt sardars r similar to us. their names, surnames, some vocabs, mentality, n ofcourse food are similar to us. at present, jat taught their wards to learn from punjabis n others. only reason is that which was pointed out by you -------- roti ke liye mazboor hai. we think haryanvi bolenge to roti nahi milegi. not agreed at all buddy!!!!!!!! i m a jat criminal lawyer n whenever i appear before a jat judge i intentionally utter some deep haryanvi words. in fact, i used to cross examine delhi police official (who seems to belong to our community) in haryanvi. i pressurized them, smtimes shout at them in haryanvi in fury. jat judge try to cool me by saying antil saheb bus karo isse naukari bhi karwani hai. i got appreciation n i m satisfied as being a JAT. always try to spread such views n thanx for ur reply

he started mushroom farms in very early time ,though he dis dis one yr only and then taught dis to a family relative only ,and after that many people in our village n near by started this by which de become rich
n due to that only sonipat district is no one in mushroom production in asia.

i was out of home since 2nd standard but no one could make me forget haryanvi.

even though i m a grauate engineer from BITS pillani,i prefer to say that m a farmer..........

JAT sardars are not similar to us. They are different. Even I should say very different.

They are famous for their cool attitude....if you really want to know the effect of speaking haryanvi then speak in haryanvi in a meeting and see what your boss would tell you next day? and also the see the reactions of Other fellows specially when you are working where you are only single JAAT. All would corner you if you tell them you are jat by speaking in JATTU. this is the effect of language and how would you work where no one likes JAATs. I have heard abuses from Sardars for our great community and not for a single JAT. They are different brother. Specially Delhi haryana JAAT are different from Sardar JATs.

Most of my friends feel proud in calling themselves JAATs but their profession is Army & Police where JAATs are in plenty and understood dhakad due to nature of these professions but Can you afford telling your peers that you are JAAT when no body likes JAATs......Ultimate what think come out......We are dependent and would not survive by speaking in haryanvi...

Brother here my discussion regarding the use of our langugage was based on today's BIG CORPORATE HOUSES. Use our language and tell me upto where you can go in that organisation......leave promotions....even survival would be doubtful.

ajay bhai. my point was wrongly conceived. i didn't mean that u always speak in haryanvi at ur work place. what i really wanna convey is that whenever a dagar meets any antil or dahiya or malik or sherawat or hooda or mann etc he should speak with that guy in haryanvi as this language may develop a strong bond between them. just check out who the other person is and start in ur language is my point of view. punjabi didn't start with punjabi language but whenever he found that a person to whom he is going to converse is arora, dingra, or other **** multani he started in his language. speaking in company meeting is totally different. a south indian boss cann't mend his accent while making his speech. no body can. the point is that in private or in a meeting also if you found a jat senior or colleague, then conversation in haryanvi deems to be appropriate. a sardar cannot make his speech in company meetings in punjabi nor can a gujrati or south indian. one thing more, when i approached Bar counsil of Delhi for my enrollment as a lawyer, a gentleman named as rakesh sherawat who was a member there helped me immensely only after knowing my surname. he said antil saheb kit ke rehan ale ho. i replied sonepat. another example regarding this is when i had some work at delhi sectriate a BIHARI BABU started harassing me by calling again and again for just a formality. my harassment ended when i found a senior designated officer having a surname MALIK. i went to his chamber n told my problem. within 20 min. he sort out everything n also warn that babu. experience may be good or bad. our fight for survival is important. one thing more, several years ago at my institute at hauz khas delhi i was the only jat. one security guard belong to rajasthan who understand haryanvi as well. he requested me to speak in haryanvi with him as he found it more closer n personal. other student used to call me HEY JAT. i never feel inferior n at that time i was more friendly n famous among chicks as well than other local chinki chau chau type guys.

Is it not high time that we need to introspect and visualize all possible causes which sometimes make a Jat feel downtrodden, unfortunate and bluntly ignored? Making our tone abrasive and rude will not glorify us in any way. Therefore in my opinion discourteous and ungracious presentation of viewpoint ought to be taken care of as a first step towards upliftment of our society. Basically, Haryanvi (including areas around Delhi, Rohtak, Sonepat etc) is not so impolite vernacular. It's the users (not all) who turn local dialect into jargon of discourteous group of persons. Fundamentally, the rustic language has enough sobriety and humbleness. Whenever we interact with others we must keep in our mind what impression we are going to inflict on the listener(s)/reader(s). The rudimentary truths oughtn't be ignored.

I slightly differ with this point of view. The Punjabis and Sikh Jats are very proud of their language and culture which is definitely very rich as compared to various dialects of Hindu Jats. The basic reason is that Hindu Jats are scattered all over India and there is very little interaction among their so many dialects & local cultural background. Besides this, they have not any singular bond, (except their being a Jat) which may become a strong factor to bring unity among them.

The Sikh Jats & the Punjabis have very negligible diversity in their local dialects. Undoubtedly, they have various local dialects. But the strength is given by their having a common written language i.e. Punjabi.

We, of course, on the other hand have immensely rich cultural and linguistic heritage found in Rajasthan, U.P. and Haryana -all Jats of Haryana admire Pundit Lakhmi Chand and other renowned writers. Still we very direly and urgently need some common thread of a rosary which has beads of diversified & colorful Jat cultures spread all over India.

We should differentiate between Jaatu Bhasha, Rude Bhasha; Akhad Bhash and Simple Rustic Bhash, shouldn't we?

I talk in Jaatu only with people who understand it i.e., other jats, and in informal settings only. Not in office, where the working language maynot be Jaatu.

Status is as good as you think. One should not be ashamed of it all. But in situation where one can't understand, it should be avoided. If one is ashamed of his\his identity than it is indeed a shame for the individual. Use it as as when you feel like you should. Be proud of it always.

It is not language or agriculture effect our status but our behaviour, our conduct, efficiency in profession, unity of the community and now in these days money, power and position do effect your place in the society. Jat will remain jat, our parents will remain parents, we must do good work, behave well develop good personal qualities, work hard, attain good positions, be strong and united community and donot bother about status, openions will change.

I agree. Just because one speaks/is more comfortable speaking english does not mean in anyway that he/she is any less Jat. Similarly, habitual Jaatu speakers cannot claim to be doing better as a Jat than non Jaatu/poor Jaatu speakers.

The language is the ONLY tool to communicate.

The first important things is that in what language/dialect you can understand better.
The second important thing is that in what language/dialect you can convey your message to the mass in a BETTER way.
The third and most important thing is that in what language/dialect you can interact effectively with most of the people you meet.

Choice is yours ! :)

Friends,

It is very interesting thread in which every participant has contributed in a nice way. Congrts.

I may say that the language or boli is a means of conveying and receiving ideas between the speaker and receptor. It has rightly been said that for effective communication one has to acquire communication skills but not attend oratory courses.

Respected Sir,

You have rightly advised that one should avoid unpleasant behaviour in one's dealings with others which conversely enhance one's social hierarchical status. No language or dialect (BOLI) is good or bad but its method of presentation that matters a lot. So we must always try to use mild words even when we present hard facts before others.

dil ki bat keh di! ...Usually non jats state our jatt(sikh jat) brothers as distinct race just because they wear a turban and speak a different language. Even i have argued a lot over this top with people but they never seem to agree. One of the main reasons is that even many jats consider them a distinct race, perhaps due to their lack of knowledge of the jat history, Secondly they take great pleasure in this Haryana vs Punjab competition.

Jat Sikhs form the backbone of the Khalsa and as far as i know the Sikh regiment is 100% Jat Sikh unit(i would like the military personals over jatland to please add to the conformation of this fact). People usually confine jats in the Indian military only to hindu jats, whereas there are numerous Jat Sikhs (jatts) in our army serving in various regiments, the only Air force pilot to be honored with the PVC is also a Jat Sikh.

People of this nation take great pleasure in diminishing the Jat acknowledgement of any Jat Sikh whenever he does something appreciable.

Jatt in Punjab are not homogeneous people at all......We are Divided in four sets jatt from malwa, jatt from doaba, jatts from Majha and jatt from west punjab ...and all have negative views about each other....and there is no intermarriage with each other till mid 19th century only relgian bound us but culturally and linguistically we are bit different from each other we bajwas, virk, cheema, heer, ghuman, waraich, sandhalwa and kahlon are jatt from west punjab and we suffer most in the hands of invaders and we are the first we who fight against these invaders and we are the first who converted to sikhism all great jat sikh warriors are from west punjab maharaja ranjit singh, kopar singh virk and bhagat singh and many more... even our ancestors - bajwa clan- fight against taimur ahmed shah abdali and nandal shan not a fake statement written records are there in pakistan ..after anglo sikh war our political domination came to end ..we are very secular in nature and respect all religion and we are very educated then others jatt of punjab ....jatts of Majha are culturally very close to us they are very brave most of jatt clan in majha are randhawa, sandhu, chahal, bhagnu gill, bal and dhillon but bit take hardline stands on sikh issue but most of them are secular.....then came jatts of doaba they are bit banya type of jatts and has down nothing for punjab or sikhism.. not much secular.. converted to sikhism in 19th century only ..and most of them want khalasthan and not so brave also and intermarriage with non jatt like saini, rajput and lubana but they have no political power so they cant do any think most of jatt clan in doaba are bains, dosangh, pannu, deol, padda, bhandal, aujla narwal and johal..... jatt of malwa are now the political power of punjab they are first who mix religion and politices they still have very strong hindu influence over them but they are people who promate negative view about hinduism in punjab most of them are still very much uneducated.. for them sikhism is a very political issue most of jatt clan of malwa is mann, dhaliwal, grewal, sidhu, brar, beniwal, punia, atha wal, dhindsa, chahal, gill, dhaiya, dullat, dhull and jakhar.........
