Some people say a big population of the world (Including Indians) is suffering with hunger and falling prey to it, but another fact is this that if hunger is killing a lot of people globally, then overeating is also proving more lethal. So, we can say that even being rich doesn't mean to be away of the problems. If some liberals suggest that all wealthy people should distribute their wealth among the hungry people, then what would they suggest about the overeating people?

In the world, obesity kills more than hunger

According the annual report of the International Federation of the Red Cross, there are more obese people in the world than people suffering from malnutrition. A finding that raises the question of access to food on the one hand, and that of the food imbalance on the other hand.

The Director of the Red Cross for the Asia-Pacific region, Jagan Chapagain, described these statistics “of scandal double-edged”, during a press conference in the Indian capital. He noted that ” the excesses of food kill more than hunger .”

In 2011, the prices of foodstuffs have singed
The increase in food prices, that the Red Cross attributed among other factors to speculation on the market of raw materials and climate change, was seen as one of triggers to the movements of popular protest at the Mahgreb and the Middle East this year.

” Un new round of inflation [...]“. “plunges a large number of people among the poorest in the world in greater poverty and in situations of serious malnutrition “, denounced the organization.

The world now has more obese than persons suffering malnutrition but increases the weight of deprivation in a context of growing food crisis, warned the International Federation of the Red Cross in a report published Thursday in New Delhi.
The humanitarian organization based in Geneva has focused its annual report on the disaster on the problems of nutrition worldwide highlighting the disparity between rich and poor and that the recent soaring prices. According to statistics of the Red Cross, 1.5 billion people suffering from obesity in the world in 2010 while 925 million suffered from malnutrition.
” If the free interaction of market led to a situation where 15% of humanity is hungry while 20% is overweight, there is something which didn’t work somewhere ,” summarized Secretary General Bekele Geleta, quoted in a news release.

I think it is eating wrong type of foods that is the problem. One can overeat say cucumber for many years and there won't be B.P, Diabetes problems, still.

Rana jee, I think it is best to eat all the things we love to eat, but in moderation. Variety in food is key to eating healthy. Also food presentation is very important in healthy eating. Also, knowing healthy way of cooking food, which tastes good too, is also very important for keeping good health. There are so many things...

Not all people who have educationl degrees can be called 'educated', in my opinion. In Indian scenario, city dewellers are richer than rural population, are more educated than the rural population and they also have more obesity related problems. In the U.S, the trend is different - these problems are less in the rich class (who have better access to quality education and expensive lifestyle) and more in low income group of people (who have limited access to quality education and limited means to adopt a healthy lifestyle.

In my experience, a healthy life style and quality education (both indicators of health and long life) are expensive commodities, and urban population in India is quite not there yet. Hence the health problems.

1. “No fat” or “no sweets” as mantras may be counter-productive. We should keep repeating “good calories” for eating is one of the best pleasures in life. By repeating “good calories” often enough, we only focus on eating well.

2. “Make the most of it” is a principle we should all live by, even if our families, friends and fellow-workers fall short of our expectations. The idea is to find joy, plant it in our hearts and work on improving our relationships.

3. We spend our entire life looking for peace but we will never find it, unless we give peace to others. When we finally realize, after many years, that the answer is giving peace to others, it will find us and we will be easy to find.
