ROHTAK: Proving their mettle, two National Defence Academy cadets from Haryana, who hail from rural areas, bagged silver and bronze medals at the passing out parade at Khadakwasla near Pune.

Battalion cadet captain Amit Dhankar hailing from Humayunpur village of Rohtak district won the silver medal and Vikram Maan of Dhand village in Bhiwani district bagged bronze in the passing out parade of 121st batch of the NDA. Haryana also has the biggest share of cadets in the batch with 70 of the 300 hailing from the state.

The medalists maintained they enjoyed their stay at the academy and their efforts were never directed at winning the prizes.

Talking to TOI, Dhankar, whose father is a sub-inspector in Central Reserve Police Force, said after completing his schooling from the Maharishi Dayanand University Campus School in Rohtak, he tried his luck in the NDA entrance and got selected in the first attempt. When asked what helped him win the top position, he said, "We just stuck to our schedule and enjoyed the training. Though we enjoyed the company of all fellow cadets, it was nice that a large number of them were from Haryana."Maan's father is a government clerk. The bronze medalist studied at the Sainik School, Kunjpura." Discipline and hard work brought me this success."
