I read a thread on the relates topic where most of the people presented Harrowing statistics, stressing the need to prevent female feticide by giving the consolation like describing achievements made by females. Some described celebrations at the time of birth of girl child as a great move. However, nobody tried to go to the root cause of the problem. First of all, why parents dislike having a girl child and why yearn for male child must be known. I think there would be any parents in the world, who would change their mind-set against the girl child, just by knowing some superficial financial aid or scheme provided by the Govt. for the girl child. Further, No level of advertisement or glorious representation of some female achievers shall bring any change to the situation. We must know why the parents are so much frightened to rear a girl child.
No sooner the birth of a girl takes place; parent’s gets agonized about the safety and marriage of their daughter. Even, when the sex ratio is so skewed, still the parents of girl find it difficult to arrange the marriage of their daughters. Nobody wants to throw his daughter to some unemployed loafer. And a well qualified, govt officer groom expects too much, such as beauty, good education as well as hefty and respectable dowry. If a boy does not get married due to non availability of a match, it does not matter much. But, a young and mature girl cannot be left unmarried by their parents for long. Therefore, there is more pressure on the parents of girl child. Suppose your daughter could not do well with the studies. Suppose your daughter is very intelligent and did well in education, but she did not get a good job. Even if, she get a good job, she is not beautiful. Suppose everything is fine, and you do get a good match of a govt. officer, but you do not have enough money to buy him with a SKODA Rapid car. Further, these gifts continue throughout the life. It would become hellish to get your daughter married!
Further, the security of girl is also a major issue. Today, the situation is so bad that parents have to escort their daughter to every where, from school, college, friends place etc. etc. Same problem is not faced by the parents of Son. There is no dearth of cases, where the father of a daughter is killed when he protested eve teasing or molesting of his daughter. Further, today in the name of modernization, there are so many bad influences on the children and if a girl child get wayward, the parents shall not be able to bear this shock. Today, there is a valentine day which nobody can stop. This valentine day gives the goons a license to chase girl, express their love by molesting the girls on the street even rape someone. If somebody protests, he is termed as Old fashioned, conservative, moral police by the media. This is also a peculiar problem with the girls only. Because girls get raped and boys rapes. If somebody’s son gets affected by the bad company, goes to prostitutes and drinks liquor or smoke, it shall be considered normal and acceptable. At the most, people shall keep only nominal social relation with that person. But what if a daughter goes with the boys, drinks and raped, would the society accept that! How such parents shall be able to make eye contact in the society? No example of female achievers could dilute these issues. Because, those female achievers belongs to elite class and do not have to face problems often occuring to common people. No goon could put a glance on PRIYANKA Gandhi.

are these reasons sufficient enough to kill an unborn baby ??????????? Nobody considers whether the reasons are sufficient enough to kill an unborn baby. But it is a fact that such killing is happening for the same reasons, even by the respected peoples in the society. Further, the people who do not resort to killing always remain depressed for the same reasons. Further, as far as question of changing mindset is concerned, the mindset is changed by by changing the circumstances. The society must resolve the issues, the problems being faced by the parents of girl child on every day basis. The thread was started to initiate the dialogue to pin point the maladies and for finding the ways or overcome these maladies.

Dear Aman, Your notion regarding dowry is not correct. Of course, both the son and daughter have equal share in the property of the parents, but in case of only boys, it does not create any pressure on the parents. Suppose you have two sons. You today buy a home costing 50 Lakhs. Both of your Son would have share in it. After 20 years, at the time of their marriage (the property cost of the same house would increase to around 3 crore, both of the son may live with you in the same home. If one wants to separate out, he may do so at his own risk and cost. Nobody can force the parents to cough up 1.5 crore,(half of the present cost of ancestral home). The parents at this stage might not be financially strong to buy another property at the inflated cost. However, same is not the case with dowry of daughter. The parents has to pay it in cash or property at all cost.

अस्पताल के अधिकारियों के मुताबिक बच्ची के माता-पिता उसे सोनीपत से ये कहकर लाए थे कि वहाँ के अस्पताल में इलाज की ठीक सुविधाएँ नहीं थीं.
तीन दिन पहले यानी बृहस्पतिवार को उन्होंने वॉर्ड में भर्ती एक और बच्चे के माता पिता से कहा कि वो खाना खाकर लौटेंगे लेकिन फिर नहीं लौटे.
ये जानकारी अस्पताल की जनसंपर्क अधिकारी सीमा दहिया ने बीबीसी हिंदी सेवा को दी. उन्होंने कहा,"इस सिलसिले में पुलिस में रिपोर्ट दर्ज करवा दी गई है. पुलिस ने छानबीन की है लेकिन अभी तक बच्ची के माता-पिता का कोई पता नहीं चला है."

I think desire for the male kid is the main reason behind this ill practice ... People with access of ultra sound kill the girl baby before her birth and people with no access leave them in trash cans after the birth . Low income and expensive living force people to have 1 or 2 kids and if they have first kid a female child then they want second kid to be a male at any cost ....... I still not able to figure out why they desire for a male kid so badly .... and the most shocking thing is women folk plays a big role in this malpractice other wise without her consent no one can do this or may be they cant resist the male dominated society of ours

If a boy does not get married due to non availability of a match, it does not matter much. But, a young and mature girl cannot be left unmarried by their parents for long. Therefore, there is more pressure on the parents of girl child. Suppose your daughter could not do well with the studies. Suppose your daughter is very intelligent and did well in education, but she did not get a good job. Even if, she get a good job, she is not beautiful. Suppose everything is fine, and you do get a good match of a govt. officer, but you do not have enough money to buy him with a SKODA Rapid car. Further, these gifts continue throughout the life. It would become hellish to get your daughter married!
Further, the security of girl is also a major issue. Today, the situation is so bad that parents have to escort their daughter to every where, from school, college, friends place etc. etc. Same problem is not faced by the parents of Son. There is no dearth of cases, where the father of a daughter is killed when he protested eve teasing or molesting of his daughter. Further, today in the name of modernization, there are so many bad influences on the children and if a girl child get wayward, the parents shall not be able to bear this shock. Today, there is a valentine day which nobody can stop. This valentine day gives the goons a license to chase girl, express their love by molesting the girls on the street even rape someone. If somebody protests, he is termed as Old fashioned, conservative, moral police by the media. This is also a peculiar problem with the girls only. Because girls get raped and boys rapes. If somebody’s son gets affected by the bad company, goes to prostitutes and drinks liquor or smoke, it shall be considered normal and acceptable. At the most, people shall keep only nominal social relation with that person. But what if a daughter goes with the boys, drinks and raped, would the society accept that! How such parents shall be able to make eye contact in the society? No example of female achievers could dilute these issues. Because, those female achievers belongs to elite class and do not have to face problems often occuring to common people. No goon could put a glance on PRIYANKA Gandhi.

The western perspective is due to the circumstances prevailing in their society. The problems as enumerated by me do not exist in western society. The law and order situation is better. Therefore, the girl child are not considered a burden there.

How do you think that I am favoring foeticide in any way. I am much against it. But, the people who are doing it have above cited reservations, which need to be addressed by the society to curb this evil. However it is shocking to find that instead of understanding the core issue you are blaming me.

In India there are many problems. There is corruption. There is terrorism. If I tell you the various reasons responsible for it, then would you call that I am supporting corruption. Any corrupt people or terrorist have a set of psychology. Which need to be read and analyzed if want to eradicate the problem. The terrorism can not be stopped by only force. Indeed force is needed but other steps like education, social economical changes are also required. Terrorist do not fear death. with force you can at the most kill the person, but you can not kill the idea, which lead the people to take extreme steps. One terrorist dies and two others are born. I read a thread on the relates topic where most of the people presented Harrowing statistics, stressing the need to prevent female feticide by giving the consolation like describing achievements made by females. Some described celebrations at the time of birth of girl child as a great move. However, nobody tried to go to the root cause of the problem. First of all, why parents dislike having a girl child and why yearn for male child must be known. I think there would be any parents in the world, who would change their mind-set against the girl child, just by knowing some superficial financial aid or scheme provided by the Govt. for the girl child. Further, No level of advertisement or glorious representation of some female achievers shall bring any change to the situation. We must know why the parents are so much frightened to rear a girl child.
No sooner the birth of a girl takes place; parent’s gets agonized about the safety and marriage of their daughter. Even, when the sex ratio is so skewed, still the parents of girl find it difficult to arrange the marriage of their daughters. Nobody wants to throw his daughter to some unemployed loafer. And a well qualified, govt officer groom expects too much, such as beauty, good education as well as hefty and respectable dowry. Most of the reasons you have mentioned are correct. Other points are also behind this. These points should be curbed and removed from the society to control the female foeticide. There is no doubt about it . you have diagnosed the decease . No body is declining these points. But what is the treatment, abusing the society only cannot solve the problem. Can you treat this just like cancer that now these are the reasons behind this and nothing can be done. Surrendering in front of these reasons and not discussing the solution or keeping mum cant be a good citizen view.
Discussing it on TV / other forums cant be hopeless . stating that these TV shows are for gaining publicity only , is not correct.

Westerners live life more practically then us ,i am not saying they are perfect but they are more practical . I am 100% sure that no one even consider the law and order situation before aborting a girl child . The so called midium class is mainly behind this . What i can think the only reasons behind this is desire for male kid , very costly living and increasing demand of dowry . I can tell you i heard and even saw people compare the cars which they get in dowry.Its not easy for every one to accumulate such a large amount to pay in dowry. These competitions make the life of a low earning people more horrible . Earlier we are far away from this new dowry culture . For some the reasons are some hypothetical desires of male child for some its burden of status for some its concern of future of the female child .
We are moving away from our roots thats why we are facing these problems . If we consider our true jat culture which our forefathers used to follow then i can assure you that these new social problem will crumble like pack of cards .

In order to tackle this problem, we need to take numerous steps such as:
1.Have strong laws
2. Teaching in schools on these topics is made a part of a curriculum

3.Generate political will to make laws and then implement those laws.

Political will can be generated by common man i.e. people like us, khaps and other social organizations who have the powers to influence politicians.

The following steps may be considered to prevent the bias against girl children.
(1) There should be no comparison of dowry items. The society must discourage the comparison of dowry item and dowry should not be an issue of prestige for both the parties. Many times we find that if the family do not receive good dowry, the neighbours start making a ridicule of the family which need to be condemned. We should infact, praise the families who do not seek dowry.
(2) The family should inculcate values to their children and environment should be created that dowry is like taking bribe. What the children earn for themselves with the hardwork is a matter of success and the Car received in dowry is like alms received to begger.
(3) The law and order situation should be improved. The society have a big role to play as we can not expect the policeman standing every where. Earlier, the children in the villages do obey the elders even from the neighbouring villages. Nobody had guts to commit any wrongdoing before the eyes of elders coming from even other villages. But now a days the children do commit criminal activities even in broad day light before every body shamelessly and nobody dare stop them. The society should immediately beat up the eve-teasers on the street, only then the situation shall improve.
(4) The disciplines, values and gender sensitivity should be taught in the school, home as well as society. Today, this very important responsibility is shunned by school, parents and society. Schools think giving moral lessons is parents responsibility. The parents think that they pay to the school for all these responsibilites. The society do not want to interfere in others matter and all the responsibility of giving moral education is left with media which through the movies like Jism, Rockstar, murder give a different kind of moral lessons
