Townville, Aug 23: India beat New Zealand in the semifinals by 9 runs on Thursday and reaches the ICC U-19 World Cup final in which they will meet the host, Australia.

Chasing a modest total of 210 runs, New Zealand managed 200/9 in their 50 overs. Fletcher was the top scorer with 53 runs. New Zealand lost the first four wickets for 63 runs, Carter-O'Donell pair put on 56 runs partnership for the fifth wicket.

Indian bowlers bowled two consecutive maidens (34th and 35th) that put pressure on the Kiwis. As the pressure mounted, O'Donell offered a simple return catch to Aparajith that turned the match to India's favour. Needing 18 off last over, medium pacer Sandeep Sharma gave away only nine runs as India won by 9 runs.

India bowlers Harmeet Singh, Sandeep Sharma and Ravikant Singh took two wickets each.

Earlier, New Zealand won the toss and put India to bat. Opener Prashant Chopra made 52 runs from 104 balls followed by number three batsman Baba Aparajith who added 44 runs to the total. Prashant Chopra struck five boundaries and a six during his innings. Indian captain made 31 runs from 44 balls helps India to reach a modest total 209 for 9 in 50 overs.

Ben Horne took three wickets for New Zealand.

India will take on Australia in the finals on August 26. This is India's fourth appearance in the finals of the ICC U-19 World Cup (2000, 2006, 2008, 2012). India won the 2000 and 2008 editions while they were runners-up in 2006.
