I have studied in my school books "HINDI" is national language of India where as WIKI says there is no such national language.. It is official language of central government of India where primary is HINDI and secondary is english.

"The principal official language (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Official_language) of the Republic of India (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/India) is Standard Hindi (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Standard_Hindi), while English (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/English_language) is the secondary official language.[4] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Languages_of_India#cite_note-india-official-lang-3) The constitution of India states that "The official language of the Union shall be Hindi in Devanagari (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Devanagari)script."[5] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Languages_of_India#cite_note-4) Neither the Constitution of India nor Indian law specifies a national language, a position supported by a High Court ruling.[6] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Languages_of_India#cite_note-5) However, languages listed in the Eighth Schedule of the Indian constitution are sometimes referred to, without legal standing, as the national languages of India.[7] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Languages_of_India#cite_note-simpson2007-6)[8] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Languages_of_India#cite_note-tollefson2002-7)"

I did not get it what you are asking?........... are you asking is hindi our national language or not ? ...... I presume that your are asking ...... Yes Hindi is not our national language.... you can say, this is our official language. Hindi and English both are our official language but hindi is not our national language ....a majority of people have accepted Hindi as a national language and many speak Hindi and write in Devanagari script, but it's not officially the national language.

The constitutional position on the issue is as under:

Notwithstanding anything in clause (1), for a period of fifteen years from the commencement of this Constitution, the English language shall continue to be used for all the official purposes of the Union for which it was being used immediately before such commencement: Provided that the President may, during the said period, by order authorise the use of the Hindi language in addition to the English language and of the Devanagari form of numerals in addition to the international form of Indian numerals for any of the official purposes of the Union.
Notwithstanding anything in this article, Parliament may by law provide for the use, after the said period of fifteen years, of-

the English language, or
the Devanagari form of numerals, for such purposes as may be specified in the law.

PART XVII
OFFICIAL LANGUAGE
CHAPTER I.- LANGUAGE OF THE UNION
344. Commission and Committee of Parliament on official language.-

The President shall, at the expiration of five years from the commencement of this Constitution and thereafter at the expiration of ten years from such commencement, by order constitute a Commission which shall consist of a Chairman and such other members representing the different languages specified in the Eighth Schedule as the President may appoint, and the order shall define the procedure to be followed by the Commission.
It shall be the duty of the Commission to make recommendations to the President as to-

the progressive use of the Hindi language for the official purposes of the Union;
restrictions on the use of the English language for all or any of the official purposes of the Union;
the language to be used for all or any of the purposes mentioned in article 348;
the form of numerals to be used for any one or more specified purposes of the Union;
any other matter referred to the Commission by the President as regards the official language of the Union and the language for communication between the Union and a State or between one State and another and their use.

In making their recommendations under clause (2), the Commission shall have due regard to the industrial, cultural and scientific advancement of India, and the just claims and the interests of persons belonging to the non-Hindi speaking areas in regard to the public services.
There shall be constituted a Committee consisting of thirty members, of whom twenty shall be members of the House of the People and ten shall be members of the Council of States to be elected respectively by the members of the House of the People and the members of the Council of States in accordance with the system of proportional representation by means of the single transferable vote.
It shall be the duty of the Committee to examine the recommendations of the Commission constituted under clause (1) and to report to the President their opinion thereon.
Notwithstanding anything in article 343, the President may, after consideration of the report referred to in clause (5), issue directions in accordance with the whole or any part of that report.

One must not be surprised on this provision of official language status granted to Hindi and English in our constitution, for, majority of the nations of the world have no national language. Even USA has not been able to grant status of official language to English where majority of the people use it .Various states of the USA have their own official languages as is the case in India.
Even in UK English is not designated as national language.

Sayad, Hindi ko school books mein Rajbhasha kaha gaya hai, Rastrabhasha nahin ! Please check.

In the High Courts and The Supreme Courts of India only English Language is permitted so far as I have come to know. Even translation from English to Hindi or other approved Indian languages is too not acceptable. Is it a matter of pride for us?

A national language may represent the national identity (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_identity) of a nation or country. National language may be a designation given to one or more languages spoken as first languages in the territory of a country. Certain languages may enjoy government recognition in some countries.

Let us consider some cases given below:
China: In China, plenty of spoken variants (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_spoken_languages) exist in different parts of the country. In order to promote a sense of national unity and enhance the efficiency of communications within the nation, the Republic Of China and later People's Republic of China decided to designate a national language. The Beijing dialect was chosen as the national language.
India
Every Indian language is National language in India
Pakistan

Article 251(1) of the 1973 Constitution of Pakistan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Constitution_of_Pakistan#The_Constitution_of_1973_--_The_Existing_Constitution), titled National language, specifies:
"The National language of Pakistan is Urdu, and arrangements shall be made for its being used for official and other purposes within fifteen years from the commencing day."National Language Authority (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Language_Authority) is an organization established to make these arrangements since 1979.
Russia

The Russian language (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russian_language) is the only official language of Russia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russia), but 27 other languages are considered official in different regions in Russia.

United Kingdom
The English (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/English_language) is the de facto official language of the United Kingdom (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Kingdom). Interestingly, official regional languages exist without reference to a national language.
Vietnam:
In Vietnam (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vietnam), the Vietnamese language (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vietnamese_language) is the national language.

Friend,
To the best of my knowledge and belief, the constitutional position in India is that there is [B]no National Language of India. Only official languages status is granted to some languages and not to all the languages of the country.
It would be kind of you if you could quote some irrefutable logic to your contention that ''Every Indian language is national language in India."
Please quote relevant article , if any, of Indian constitution regarding National Language/s in India.

Regards and thanks.

As per the RTI that has been filed, neither Mahatma Gandhi is our nation's father:triumphant: nor Hockey is national game of India. so no big surprise it is not our national language.
