Haryana is very rich as regards remains of ancient culture and archaeology are concerned.

Over the years since 1960's more than one thousand sites have yielded evidence of their

antiquity to explorers and excavators.

In recent years the Indian and Japanese scholars have joined hands to explore

and excavate this hidden treasure of our glorious past at a number of sites such

as Meham, Farmana, Rakhigarhi etc.

If all the material remains collected during the explorations and excavations at

different places are housed under one roof of the proposed Archaeological Site Museum

at Rakhigarhi, this would surely boost the research on the ancient phases of history !

Such a collection would facilitate the scholars to interact there and also save their

valuable time and money being spent today in going to a number of museums and

repositories.

Excellent initiative. It is a bit late to set something up like this but why not. It is badly needed. Such museums should have been set up decades ago.

It is welcome step; for, it is said that better late than never.

If the proposed Museum and Interpretation Centre at Rakhigarhi comes up to cater the need of preservation of the ancient relics and remains coming out from excavations being carried out at different places in Haryana under one roof, it could go a long way in preservation of Ancient Heritage of India.

Here long term planning is needed. The authorities of the State and the Central Government involved in setting up this glorious Site Museum should take note of the demand of housing huge collections which are going to emerge in near future as more than 1,000 sites in the State during the exploration stage itself have given proof of containing ancient heritage remains in Haryana only.

There are five sites identified as RGR I to RGR 5 in Rakhigarhi, one of the largest cities of the Indus Valley [Harappan] Civilisation. But nearly 70 per cent of the ancient sites total area is under encroachment.

The village Panchayat of Rakhigarhi has given six acres of land to develop a museum of the artifacts recovered from the excavations, so that these could be saved for the future and it could help in development of tourism in Rakhigarhi.

Perhaps, the founding of the Archaeological Museum at the site has fallen prey to some administrative bottlenecks or technicalities as we have heard nothing on the issue after the first press reports came to light !
