For those who can't find someone or those who needs something urgent, here is a news to cheers!

From sites like http://www.overstock.com and http://www.ibhejo.com (http://www.ibhejo.com/) you can directly get the US products shipped to your home without the hassles of dealing with customs dept or fear of in transit loss.

The prices quoted on the website are final, that is there are no extra/hidden charges, whatsoever.

The site ibhejo.com even has a section to request something that you can't find in already there. I am not sure on their exact charges. It may be around US$150-200 which isn't that bad. I have placed a request for a laptop (US$600 on ecost.com) on ibhejo.com. Will post about their final price in India once I get a response from them.

The prices listed on websites are always final, no? Custom varies as per product and time taken. Overstock will ship your order from US, how can they avoid customs or shipping charges?

ibhejo looks no different than any of the Indian e-commerce site. How can you or they avoid Customs duty even if they procure these products in US? Ultimately those products will need to come through customs unless they have people regularly flying in with good which is illegal.

Just curious to know if it is just a marketing gimmick or they have actually cracked a legal way to do so.

Just be careful while buying the laptop online from overseas. Carefully check that it is not refurbished product and whether it has wannanty cover (worldwide). Get the serial number first and you can check more information about the product online. Such websites "try to pass" the customs some time by declaring them as "gifts" or undervalue the product. Anyway they will still charge you the duties but it is included in the price. I myself had few problems with the custom and it was with long arguments with the seller and customs that I got that cleared. All this wasnt worth for a laptop which didnt last much as soon as it was out of the warranty.

As per the information on the sites. They do pay the customs charges and handle the customs clearance. The buyer doesn't come into the picture.

I had mistakenly put "customs duty" instead of "customs dept". I have edited it now.

While most of these products which are cheaper in price are refurbished some come from clearance sale as well.

Yeah, the warranty part is quite painful. Most companies like, Dell, Lenovo, HP, Ausys, etc do not provide international warranty. The reason is simple, these companies do not sell these high end systems here and their spares aren't available in India.

Overall, I agree that one has to be very careful while buying things online from overseas. Particularly because, you have already paid them the full price upfront and you can't take them to Indian courts even if you don't get anything.

If you can find someone who can bring it along for you, then thats the best option. If not, these site provide an alternative, though it's much more riskier and costlier.

PS: Through which site had you bought your laptop?

I bought it from a online store through ebay. I cant remember the name now but it was US based. My advise is don't buy electronics without warranty its like driving your brand new car in Hisar Nagory Gate without insurance.

Ibhejo.com has added the item in their offerings as requested by me. The item is listed for little more than Rs 52000 (around 870USD). That's a difference of USD 270 which includes customs, courier and profits.
