India can do better if better sports infrastructure and training is available to the players. Slowly slowly things are changing for better.

Govt must provide facility specially in rural areas and can tap into the raw talent.

Access to low fat high protein diet should be there for the players.

Bhai Vinesh Phogat is daughter of Late Sh Rajpal Singh who was a bus driver with Haryana Roadways. He was considered as one of the fastest and sharp drivers in the depot. I remember traveling with him while studying in school at Dadri as his duty used to be on our route mostly. Rajpal was shot dead by one of his cousins on a petty issue around 10 years ago at home Balali.

Rajpal was the youngest brother of Mahaveer Pehalwan (Father of Geeta and Babita). Mahaveer Pehalwan has trained Vinesh like his own daughters - Geeta and Babita and results are in front of all of us. Pehalwan ji is still a very simple person.

Good news, kindly share :

India got one more medal in the women's 53kg weightlifting when Swati Singh was handed the bronze and Matsha Santoshi upgraded to silver after 16-year-old Nigerian gold winner Chika Amalaha tested positive for a banned substance at the Commonwealth Games.

Santoshi had finished third and Swati fourth in the women's 53kg weightlifting competition, held on July 25. They will now get a silver and bronze respectively.

"We have got official intimation from the Glasgow 2014 organisers that Santoshi's bronze will be upgraded to silver, while fourth-placed Swati will get the bronze," Indian Weightlifting Federation vice-president Sahdev Yadav said on Wednesday."Now we will get 12 medals (three gold, four silver, five bronze) from weightlifting in the Games, two medals more than in 2010 Delhi. It is a huge achievement for us," he added."This remarkable achievement surpassed the medal tally of previous two editions of Commonwealth Games (nine medals in 2006 and eight in 2010)."

Gold eludes Indian wrestlers, get 4 silvers, 1 bronzeGLASGOW: After a day of highs, there was disappointment in store for Indian wrestlers as they only garnered four silver medals and a bronze in the 2014 Commonwealth Games at the SECC Hall on Wednesday.

Bajrang, Lalita, Sakshi Malik and Satywart Kadian lost their final bouts to settle for the silver medal while Navjot Kaur clinched the bronze medal after she won the play-off match.

This comes after a stunning show by the Indian wrestlers on Tuesday when they won three gold medals and a silver. Two-time Olympic medallist Sushil Kumar, Amit Kumar, and Vinesh Phogat had bagged gold medals and Rajeev Tomar settled for the silver.

India's tally from wrestling now stands at nine medals - three Gold, five Silver and a Bronze. It have now slipped to the second position after Canada in the wrestling competition. Canada have a total of eight medals - five gold and three bronze.

Five Indian boxers reach CWG semisGLASGOW: Indian boxers Pinki Jangra, L. Sarita Devi, Devendro Singh, Mandeep Jangra and Vijender Singh reached the semi-finals of the Commonwealth Games in their respective categories.

However, Amritpreet Singh bit the dust as he lost the men's 91 kg quarter-final bout to local pugilist Stephen Lavelle. The judges found the Scot to be better in all the three rounds to win with a scoreline of 29:28, 30:27 and 30:27.

Pinki started the proceedings with a dominating 4:0 win over Papua New Guinea's Jacquiline Wangi in the women's 48-51 kg quarterfinal. She will now face Northern Ireland's Michaela Walsh in the semis on Friday.

Sarita followed it up with a win in the women's 57-60 kg quarterfinal over Welsh Charlene Jones. Though the Welsh girl won the first round on points, Sarita came back well to win the next three rounds of two minutes each to clinch the contest 3:1.

The Indian will play her last four bout on Friday against Mozambique's Maria Machongua.

Attacking Manipuri boxer Devendro then won his men's 49 kg last-eight bout, defeating Scottish Aqeel Ahmed 3:0. The 22-year-old notched up perfect scores of 30 from the judges in the last two rounds.

Devendro will face Welsh Ashley Williams in the semis on Friday.

Mandeep Jangra was lucky to not even fight in the men's 69 kg quarterfinal as his Australian opponent Daniel Lewis gave him a walkover due to medical reasons. The Haryana pugilist will next take on Northern Ireland's Steven Donnelly.

To finish the day, Indian Olympic bronze medallist Vijender Singh also won his men's 75 kg quarterfinal bout against Aaron Prince of Trinidad and Tobago 3:0.

The losing semifinalists in the discipline are assured of a bronze medal as the winners proceed to the gold medal final match. –Agencies, For Source of the report Log :http://www.tribuneindia.com/2014/20140731/latest-news.htm#5

.

'Concerned people' stands for common citizens of the country, who hear so much about honouring of the outstanding players in Haryana.

People of Haryana in particular and people of India in general must know how the general policies are twisted in the State to favour or disfavour selectively and the outstanding sports-persons are encouraged/discouraged !

I wish boxers achieve the same. About 5-6 years back, it looked like mhare Haryane mein, boxing will be as big as wrestling. But it is slipping little bit as far as medals are concerned, not sure what is lacking. Look forward to boxing, athletics competition and hockey.

Thank you for clarifying friend. You did it very nicely.

Almost one-fourth of India’s 215-member contingent at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games hails from Haryana. On the medal front, the state’s share is even higher: one-third of the country’s tally. Of India’s 52 medals as on July 31 (47 already won and five assured by boxers after making it to the semifinals), 16 have been bagged by Haryana’s players.
Wrestlers from the state have contributed nine medals: four gold - Amit Kumar (57kg), Yogeshwar Dutt (65kg), Babita (55kg) and Vinesh Phogat (48kg) - and five silver - Satywart Kadian (97kg), Bajrang (61kg), Lalita (53kg), Sakshi Malik (58kg) and Geetika (63kg).
In shooting, Sanjeev Rajput (50m rifle), Anisa Sayyed (25m pistol), Gurpal Singh (50m pistol) and Harpreet Singh (25m rapid fire pistol) clinched silver medals.

Three medals were assured by boxers Vijender Singh (75kg), Mandeep Jangra (69kg) and Pinki Rani (51kg) by winning their quarterfinal bouts on Wednesday and making it to the medal round. On Friday, they have their semifinal bouts and will get a bronze each even if they lose.

Ladies first in wrestling family
Chandigarh, August 01, 2014

Former state wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat left his Haryana State Electricity Board job in early 2000 to live his dream of bringing glory to the country through his daughters.
During the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, two of his daughters, Geeta and Babita, won gold and silver, respectively. Two years later, Geeta created history by becoming the country’s first woman wrestler to compete in the London Olympic Games. The same year, both sisters clinched a bronze each in the World Championships. Now in Glasgow, Babita and Vinesh (the daughter of his deceased younger brother) clinched gold in the 48kg and 55kg categories, respectively.
Inspired by the success of Geeta and Babita, Mahavir’s youngest daughter, Ritu, and the daughters of his brother — Priyanka (22) and Vinesh (20) — too joined the sport. Following the death of his brother, all five girls live and train together, making Mahavir proud.

Mahavir is one of the country’s few coaches, who can truly claim to have given the country nearly half-a-dozen international-level wrestlers, unlike many other coaches whose only claim to fame is riding piggyback on the success of their wards or spouses.
Ironically, Mahavir’s efforts continue to be ignored by the sports ministry, despite the coach submitting his application for the Dronacharya for the last five years.
“I am happy that Babita and Vinesh have won gold. But my target is something else. Till the time one of them doesn’t win a medal in the Olympics, I will not be satisfied,” says Mahavir, who has rejected the marriage proposals for his eldest daughter Geeta so that she can concentrate on the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.
“Initially, Geeta and Babita used to train at a mud akhara, but later, the local government college where they are studying, provided them with wresting mats,” says Mahavir.
When the girls are not in the national camp, their day starts at 4:30am and the first session lasts till 7:30am. The evening session too is of 3-4 hours. Asked if he felt dejected at not receiving the Dronacharya, Mahavir says, “My mission is to produce champions. If I get the Drona along the way, I’ll accept it. If not, my mission will still go on.”
Mahavir’s mission began more than a decade ago, when the Phogat family introduced Geeta to wrestling. The father remembers how the Balali village was up in arms, with elders revolting at the idea of a local girl slugging it out in the mud.
Success in the 2010 CWG turned the tide in his favour and now, winning medals is a routine affair. “Whenever the girls win a medal, the entire village gathers to celebrate,” says Mahavir.

India won three silvers and two bronzes on Day 9 of the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow while at least another five silvers were assured as four boxers and the squash duo of Dipika Pallikal and Joshna Chinappa made it to the finals.

The first medal of the day came from Pinki Rani Jangra who lost her semi-final to settle for the bronze medal. The Haryana pugilist gave a tough fight to Michaela Walsh but the Northern Ireland woman's height and better reach helped her win all four rounds.
The second silver came from Seema Punia in women's discus throw as India continued to do uncharacteristically well in athletics. Seema, who had won a bronze in 2010 Delhi Games and a silver in 2006 Melbourne, threw the discus to 61.61m, her season's best, to grab the silver late last night while defending champion Krishna Poonia could just come up with a below-par effort of 57.84m.

HISTORY CREATED IN THE FILED OF SPORTS

Dipika Pallikal and Joshana Chinappa created history by winning the first-ever gold medal in squash but disappointment was in store for the four Indian boxers, including Olympic bronze winner Vijender Singh, who had to be content with a silver each in the 20th Commonwealth Games at Glasgow on Saturday.

Dipika and Joshana stole the limelight with their historic feat as they beat Jenny Duncalf and Laura Massaro of England 11-6, 11-8 in the womens doubles squash final on the 10th day of competitions in this edition. It was the first squash medal for India in the Commonwealth Games.

Revival of Indian Hockey stamps medal in CWG 2014. Read Hindustan Times report on the performance of the team:

In men's hockey, India came from two goals down to defeat New Zealand 3-2 in the semifinals to set up a summit showdown with holders Australia. Trailing 0-2 in the 18th minute, India sans regular skipper Sardar Singh were revived by strikes from Rupinder Singh Pal, Ramandeep Singh and Akashdeep Singh, who ensured at least a silver medal.

The Glasgow Commonwealth Games were hailed as "the best ever" on Sunday as the 11-day showpiece came to an emotional conclusion inside a chilly Hampden Park after 11 days of competition.

An event long written-off as a dusty anachronism in the modern, profit-driven era of international sport ended with England on top of the medals table for the first time since 1986 and with rich plaudits ringing in its ears.

"The Games have made us all very proud and truly brought our family together," said Prince Imran, president of the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF), during a closing ceremony which fused the pop of Kylie Minogue and poetry of Rabbie Burns.

"Scotland, and Glasgow, you really have delivered in every aspect the best Games ever."

Prince Imran's warm endorsement echoed similar praise earlier in the day from Mike Hooper, chief executive of the CGF, who described the event as "the stand-out Games in the history of the movement".
With more than 4,700 athletes having competed for 261 gold medals on offer, the Commonwealth Games flag was then entrusted to officials of the 2018 Games to be hosted by Australia's Gold Coast.

India’s medal tally has Jatland imprint (http://www.tribuneindia.com/2014/20140805/haryana.htm#23)
Chandigarh, August 4
A tiny Haryana continues to a sports powerhouse of the country with sportspersons from the state bagging 22 of the 64 medals won by the Indian contingent in Commonwealth Games (CWG) at Glasgow.

The state’s sports policy’s objective of liberal financial assistance and a catchy tagline of padak lao, pad pao (bring medal, get job) seem to have paid rich dividends. Haryana sportspersons bagged five out of 15 golds won by the Indian sportspersons. Of the 30 silver medals, 14 were won by sportspersons from the state. As for bronze medals, three out 19 medals landed in the state’s kitty.
Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, a keen sportsman himself, was quick to recognise the sportspersons’ achievements, unveiling a bonanza in the shape of a significant hike in the award money in the midst of the Commonwealth Games on July 31. The award money for a gold medallisr was increased from Rs 15 lakh to Rs 1 crore and for a silver medalist from 10 lakh to Rs 50 lakh. For a bronze medallist, the award money went up from a meagre Rs 5 lakh to Rs 25 lakh.
The achievement of state’s sportspersons was all the more creditable as all medals expect one (silver to Sardara Singh in hockey) came in the individual events — wrestling, shooting, athletics and boxing.
All five golds came in the traditional sport of wrestling as Amit Kumar, Vinesh Phogat, Sushil Kumar, Babita and Yogeshwar Dutt bagged the top spot.
Geetika Jakhar (wrestling), Bajrang (wrestling), Saty-awrat Kadian (wrestling), Lalita (wrestling), Sakshi Malik (wrestling), Anisha Sayyed (shooting), Gurpal Singh (shooting), Gagan Narang (shooting), Harpreet Singh (shooting), Sanjeev Rajput (shooting), Seema Punia (discuss throw), Vijender Singh (boxing), Mandeep Jangra (boxing) and Sardara Singh (hockey) bagged the silver medal.
Pawan Kumar (wrestling), Gagan Narang (shooting) and Pinki Rani (boxing) managed to bring home the bronze medal.

Still waiting for that promised job, says shooter Anisahttp://www.tribuneindia.com/2014/20140805/spr6.jpgNew Delhi, August 4
Anisa Sayyed doesn’t need to wait for long to succeed in a shooting range but her wait for a job seems to be turning into an endless one with the Haryana government dillydallying for the past three years, leaving the champion shooter with no option but to vent her frustration.
The multiple Commonwealth Games winner, who clinched a silver in Glasgow to go with her record-breaking double gold in Delhi four years ago, though, is still living in hope. “I have been waiting for three years, waiting for that promised job. If they think I don’t deserve this then they should not keep me waiting. That’s not fair to an athlete who continuously strives for international success,” Anisa said.
The 33-year-old Anisa took silver in the women’s 25 metre pistol event of the Commonwealth Games. In the same event, the gold was won by her “good friend” Rahi Sarnobat.
Competing with a friend for the top prize is not a problem, but waiting for something that she richly deserves does make Anisa sad.
“The file has not been processed since 2011, I am still hoping that I will get something out of it. I have met the chief minister (Bhupinder Singh Hooda) twice and he asked me to only concentrate in shooting, and the rest will be taken care of. Because of this I quit my job with the Railways after the Delhi CWG and also did not show interest in a job offered by Maharashtra government. Looking back I think those were mistakes,” she said.
“I seriously hope that something will happen before we leave for the World Championships or at least the Asian Games,” Anisa added. — PTI

Bhai anil,..i agree...

BUT

haryana is still better in sports in comparison of other states ...noone is giving 1 crore to a commonwelath gold medalist in India except haryana.............punjab was best in India in sports two decades back..but haryana surpassed punjab
..hoooda is not best but he is still better of its counterparts...whatever is the reason ..an easy money due to real state, proximity to delhi or other reasons in haryana...haryana is really flourishing..........noone is best..even in USA you can see beggars around

in no other matters but haryana is really "number 1 haryana" in sports....

We can't deny state's contribution, indeed haryana has excelled in sports in last 10 years. Money and job is always a motivation for sportsperson.

The first State Sports Policy was made in the year 2000 by I N L D Government which laid the foundation of excellence in the arena of sports and games.

The successive governments have further added more good features to the pioneer policy and the good harvest of medal is the cumulative result of the interest shown by the parents and the encouragement and incentives given by the State Government.

The results are very encouraging and other state governments must also come forward to follow the Sports Policy of Haryana so that India could claim a place of proud in the international sports and games in not too distant future.

India at Glasgow CWG
Fewer medals, but it’s not all that badA glance at the medals table indicates that India’s performance at the XX Commonwealth Games in Glasgow has declined steeply after the high of Delhi 2010, when as hosts they won 101 medals, including 38 gold, 27 silver and 36 bronze. From Glasgow 2014, the numbers are 15 gold, 30 silver and 49. In Delhi, India finished second on the medals table behind Australia; in Glasgow, they ended up fifth, behind England, Australia, Canada and Scotland. Yet, this performance can’t be considered disheartening. It was clear from the outset that the high of Delhi 2010 – when India won over 100 CWG medals for the first time ever – was impossible to match in Glasgow.

One reason for this is that many events in which India did very well in 2010 were either truncated (shooting, wrestling) or entirely dropped (tennis, archery, walking). In the case of shooting, the medal events came down from 44 to 19; India’s haul from shooting, thus, dropped from Delhi’s 30 to Glasgow’s 17. In wrestling, the number of medals won fell from 19 in 2010 to 13 this year.

Another reason behind the fall in the numbers won is that as hosts, Indian athletes were competing in home conditions before massive audience support; also, the Indian government had used a lot of resources and money to train the athletes to ensure they did well at their home Games.

There are some encouraging signs from the Glasgow Games for Indian sport: An Indian man (Vikas Gowda) won an athletics gold at the CWG for the first time in 56 years; an Indian man (Parupalli Kashyap) won the CWG badminton title for the first time in 32 years; Joshana Chinappa and Dipika Pallikal won India their first-ever squash gold at the CWG. India’s CWG show, though, highlighted a painful fact yet again – most Indian sportspersons come from economically deprived circumstances. The middle classes are supplying very few athletes to the nation’s talent pool, though they moan the most when India doesn’t do well in sport.

A few players [wrestlers] after their return to India from recently concluded CWG have demanded provision for better infrastructure and training facilities for their preparations for participation in coming Asiad so as to enable them to bring laurels for the country.

Prashant Bhai, I think we all are discussing the same point. Just trying to conclude : -

1. Whether state govt policy to reward the winners is good and encouraging those who have won medals or are preparing for the same? -- Definitely Yes!!
2. Is the reward policy better than other states --- Definitely Yes!!

But,

3. Is this policy implemented with 100% honesty and impartiality without politics -- No
4. Has everyone got same level of jobs under this policy - No.
5. Whether, all the winners have achieved the peak in their career because of this policy alone-- No.
6. Whether the policy has created enough infrastructure for these winners so that they can continue the medal haul in next event - NO

I believe, in your post you have focused on point 1 and 2 where as we accept the same but at the same time, are highlighting point 3,4,5,6 as well.
