Thank you and same to you Dagar Bhai!!!

Happy Teej to all members of Jatland!!!!!

A Festive Procession of Parvati the festival of Teej celebrates the onset of the monsoon, after the long and arduous summer. The day commemorates the event of Parvati leaving the home of her parents as a bride and Shiva coming to fetch her.

The arrival of monsoons is a time for celebration. The parched land, scorched by the blazing summer sun, gets bathed in the first showers. The depressing landscape, a morbid brown is spontaneously transformed. An intoxicating fragrance of rain soaked sand fills the atmosphere clearing the cloud of dust that veils the sky in the preceding months. The brown is overtaken by a vibrant green. A cool breeze revives the spirit of the people.

Peacocks dance in ecstasy, women rejoice by putting up rope swings in the garden and lilting melodies can be heard heralding the festival of Teej. The festival is extremely popular among women in north India. Married women come to their parents' home to celebrate this festival. It is an occasion for them to sing, dance and make merry. Songs in praise of Parvati,
whose devotion to her husband is exemplary, are popularly sung. Special swings
are hung on tree branches, and the women, reveling in the transformed, verdant
countryside, swing on them. They dress up as befits a married woman, adorning
all the solashringara. They fast to rededicate themselves to their husband and
family. It is believed that by praying to Parvati, marital bliss is bestowed upon
oneself. Usually a fair is organized on this occasion. For the rural women specially,
this is a time to pamper and enjoy oneself, by buying bangles, bindis, bead necklaces, getting photographs taken, and eating sumptuous dishes.

Chhori gaaven geet soorile-e ye jhool ghalee kaama-an kee."

cheers!

HAPPY TEEJ TO ALL JAT's.

But I think some of us away from our homeland surely missing "Sawan Ke Jhule" and "Ghever".

Ise baat pe ek teejan ke geet kee kuch lines ho janye.

"Ping bata de sasu resmi ree,
aanree ghalwa de bagh ke beech,
bagh jhulan heri jan de ne....................... ".

These lines are written by my wife Lalita.

Wish you Happy Teej.

your Kauthali is on the way.

Bhai Kesu:

kauthali theek ekdum Raksha Bandhan ke din ponhchi! Mai kaam te gharaan aaye, parcel durwaje pe dhraya tha! I am not sure how to thank you! It meant a great deal to me. I will have to wait until December for the kauthali from India, but the one from Canada, sure made its way to my house, just on time!
