Panchkula, January 10
The Haryana Government today invited applications from farmers of all districts interested in getting 1800 watt-capacity solar water-pumping system installed in their farms for agriculture.

Applications for this purpose should be sent through respective District Rural Development Agency latest by January 20.

According to an official spokesman the Deputy Commissioner, Ms Jyoti Arora , said the system would be provided to farmers with financial assistance from the Union Ministry of Non-Conventional Energy Sources. She added that the state government would provide only such 100 SPV water pumps to farmers in the state. The capacity of the pump would be 1800 watts with 2hp direct current mono block pump set and the pump would be very beneficial to farmers who had water table at 8 m depth in their farms.

Anybody have any idea or can find out how much it costs(with or without govt funding).
This can be useful in villeges public places etc ?

Not sure how effective it will be. Solar systems haven't been successful in long run in India till now , specially their reliability and service-ability. Need to look into after sale service, maintenance cost etc before going for it. I'm sure government's subsidised support will go away after initial one.

Of course, one must explore this plan in detail, before concluding anything. It MIGHT be worthwhile.

It sounds like a good idea, whether it will achieve any thing or not remains to be seen. Atleast it will generate some good publicity for the Govt. Also it is great for the environment.

Talking about the cost solar power is the most costliest system in comparison to Wind Power, Thermal, Nuclear, Wave, Hydro etc. Here in Australia the payback period for solar panels is said to be 40 years which is a very long time. In India it may be less because locally made solar panels will be cheaper and maintenancewise also they are good. One of our Jat brothers is working on the solar panel manufacturing project and with some luck he should succeed. If even 1% of Haryana farmers go for it that will be more than sufficient to support a good size manufacturing plant.

When it comes to life and maintenance solar is the Best and requires least amount of maintenance. Any one interested in further information is welcome and will do my best to answer the questions as accurately as possible.

Best of luck to farmers and their families.

Dear All,

Can some one please enlighten us whether this scheme was successful or not and how many farmers were able to take advantage?
