Friends Please lay your hands on TRAVEL supplement of Economic Times Dated March 21,2002. Feature titled " KUCHESAR MUD FORT : JAT SPIRIT " is worth reading. For members benefit I am reproducing a paraphrased version here.
Located in Western UP about 60 kms from Delhi on Delhi Moradabad route Kuchesar has a mud fort which is symbol of indomitable jat spirit. Mud fort had been a witness to chequered history of jats who fought with Sikhs , Marathas,Rohillas , Rajputs & French adventurers to fill vacuum created by declining Mughal power. In mid eighteenth century Dalal Jats of Mandoti of Haryana came here as rulers.Chatter Singh the grandson of Bhual served for Mirza Ali Beg of Chitsauna. His son joined Jawahar Singh , son of legendry Suraj Mal of Bharatpur to be recalled by Najib - ud - daulah and offerred jagir of Kuchesar with title of Rao and the office of ' Chormar ' destroyer of thieves. In 1763 fort was razed. In 1782 it was recovered by the family and retained by a perpetual lease by Mughal emporer Shah Alam in 1790 and by British in 1807. In mid 18th century the fort was strengthened to face British cannon attack. Main palace is on a bastion surrounded by gardens on three sides. and ruins of a replica of Robert Clive house at calcutta. All rooms in the fort bear majestic tiltles. The space between river Ganga and fort is filled by sugercane fields and mango orchards.
Friend if you happen to be in Delhi you can plan a picnic trip to this place and learn about our glorious past.
