Sehwag to be on Time cover

New Delhi, January 29
India’s hope and Delhi’s hero Virender Sehwag (Viru) is all set to make it big.

From the unpaved streets of Najafgarh village in the north-west of Delhi to be featured on the cover of the Asian edition of a multi-continental, multi-edition international news magazine, rated among the best in the world, Sehwag is all set to replace his very own idol Sachin Tendulkar as the “international icon” of Indian cricket.

Shy and straightforward, village-boy Sehwag is being considered the world over as the flag-bearer of the Indian team during the forthcoming Cricket World Cup in South Africa and Zimbabwe. Instead of the little genius Sachin Tendulkar, cricket pundits are considering Sehwag to be the vital link in the Indian team. The man who could lead India to another World Cup triumph.

And the Time magazine is no different. There are reports that the magazine is considering the name of Sehwag to be on its cover in the next edition, which hits the stands just a day after the World Cup begins in South Africa.

Sehwag’s name has apparently been shortlisted along with some other personalities to be put on the cover. However, a final decision would be taken by the magazine Editor soon.

Officials at the magazine office here confirmed that Sehwag’s name was being considered, but a final decision was yet to be taken.

The swashbuckling Indian opener, who could be any bowler’s nightmare, will also break new grounds if featured on the cover. He would possibly be the first Indian cricketer to be on the cover in such a short career span. His idol incidentally was also featured by the magazine. According to reports here, the magazine had flown in a team of correspondents, specially from Hong Kong, to collect various details of Sehwag’s life, his family and about his progression as a cricketer from the small village to the Indian team. The correspondents have reportedly been meeting the family members and various other people who have played a vital role in shaping the cricketing career of Sehwag.

The Indian “master blaster” was himself in Mumbai late last week to be shot for the cover of the magazine. In the little time that the Indian opener had before he joined the Indian team preparing for the World Cup, he apparently also shot for an advertisement film of a soft drink company.

But the big happening was the shooting for the possible cover of the magazine. It commissioned the services of a Mumbai-based top Indian fashion photographer to shoot Sehwag in his glory, with the shoot taking place at a luxury hotel in the city.
