'US OFFERS INDIA OIL, $2.5-B TO SUPPORT IRAQ WAR'

NEW DELHI, FEB 22

THE UNITED STATES HAS OFFERED TO GIVE INDIA THE $2.5 BILLION OWED TO IT BY IRAQ AND ASSURE ITS OIL SUPPLY FOR UNAMBIGUOUS SUPPORT OF ITS WAR AGAINST BAGHDAD, A REPORT SAID SATURDAY.

A NEWSPAPER SAID WASHINGTON WOULD ALSO AWARD NEW DELHI A MAJOR CHUNK OF RECONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES IN POST-WAR IRAQ IN EXCHANGE FOR UNCONDITIONAL BACKING.

THE REPORT DID NOT SPECIFY WHEN OR THROUGH WHAT CHANNELS WASHINGTON'S OFFERS WERE CONVEYED TO NEW DELHI, BUT SAID STATE DEPARTMENT OFFICIALS HAD TOLD VISITING INDIAN FOREIGN SECRETARY KANWAL SIBAL THAT US AND INDIAN INTERESTS COULD CONVERGE AFTER THE WAR.

IT SAID OIL REMAINED A MAJOR LURE, WITH WASHINGTON MAKING CLEAR THAT ALL COUNTRIES CLEARLY STANDING BEHIND THE UNITED STATES WOULD GET A SHARE IN THE PROCEEDS OF THE WAR AND REMOVAL OF SADDAM HUSSEIN.
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Isn´t it wonderful the way this whole Iraq thing is going on ? Every country is looking for its own interests and US is offering them money for their support. Best one is the way Turkey holding US on ransom,$26 Billion for bases, some businessmen these turks are!....but one underlying fact comes out that ultimately no principles no democracy no ideology directs a nation policy.Pure monetary interests are driving their policies and that too of ruling class, for example KSA and other arab countries.
Poor iraqis ,they stand to gain nothing , it is pity how other people are deciding their destiny.
Any comments?

Dear Abhishek

It is really unfortunate to see that a "nation's foreign policy" is dictated by materialistic gains rather than by ideology.

Thanx for sharing.

The Great Game

The Great Game,
what a shame!!
For some oil,
governments toil.
Killers trained,
divinity claimed.

Then the unforeseen enters
killers turn on their mentors.

Bombs explode
on mentors' abode.
People killed,
graves filled.
Revenge sought,
war is fought.

New twists in these thrillers
mentors turn on their killers.

Bombs explode
on killers' abode.
People killed,
graves filled.
Re-revenge sought,
war is fought.

Common man used as a pawn,
as this game goes on and on…

Mr. Lather,

Beautiful poem, i cannot think of any better way of describing the whole scenario. Absolutely beautiful words of your poetry.

But the fact is that there is no place for sorrow, pain or affection in the game of politics.
Politics is a rather harsh and shrewd game goverened by the principle's of self-interest and profit-loss.

It has always been that way and will always be that way, our concerns are not going to change anything.
It might be harsh, but it is reality.

Kharub sahab bilkul theek bat kahee.
Shikari(US) Shikar karne ja raha hai. Shikar ka hissa UK ko bhee milega, so UK does not have any problem, French will not get the share they think they deserve, that is why they are making more noise(or hard bargain). Or may be they think they can get better deal from another part(Iraq) by making noise. India is a small player, but still worth for US to attract for a small amount(2 Bill is a very small price for that big country copare to 30 Bill for turkey)
Guess how much US will gain if everything goes as per their plan.

Of all things what fascinates me most is the open way in which each country´s greed has come to the surface. It looks outright ridiculous when Bush Jr. talks about Iraq being danger to world and all those things.
And in this world it is very important to be practical. I mean when everyone is trying to have part of the booty why should India be left behind?

Dhama sahab,
You are right, why India should be left behind, But at the same time you can gain as per your weight only and unfortunatley India does not have much weight today. France have Veto power and permanent seat in SC. But India is trying as per her capabilities with both the parties, which is good.
