The Nehra Gotra

The Nehra Gotra is a well-known and respected clan.

One story of the origin of the Gotra is that they crossed over from Sindh, and settled in Rajastan near the Jhunjhunu area, near the hills of Nehra, and took that name for themselves.

It is also said that there was a Suryavanshi named Narhari form Sindhu country.
The elder son of Manu, Nariyayant, is also known in many places as Narhari.

Near Jaipur they are called Shekawati.

Here upto the 15th century Ad the Nehra clan ruled.

The warrior Jujhar Singh was from this clan.
His father was a Faujdar with the Nawab. Jujhar Singh became a general in the army of the Nawab.

His desire was to establish a Jat empire in the whole of Bharatvarsh.

At that time a Rajput named Shardul Singh, also joined the army of the Nawab.

They were both against the atrocities of the Mughals.

When the time came Jujhar Singh raised the flag of revolution.

They defeated the Nawabs of Jhunjhunu and Narhar.

The account of this is written in many Kavya accounts.

“ Sathra Sau Sathasi, Adhana maas Udhar
Sardhe Linoh Jhunjhunu, Suhi Aathe Shaniwar”

Jujhar Singh was elected the Sardar or leader in the Darbar.
After he was anointed with the Tilak, the Rajputs, who attacked and killed him, found him alone.

It is said that at that time, A Charran went to Shardul Singh and said.

“ Sardhe Linoh Jhunjhunu, Linoh amar patte
Beteh, Potheh, Parhuateh Pirdhi Sath latteh “

The meaning of this is, that Jujhar Singh took Jhunjhunu form Sadhulleh Khan, and he became immortal. Now your sons, grandsons, and their sons, will rule for seven generation.

The warrior Jujhar Singh became a martyr for the Jat race

Near Modhinagar they occupy the villages of Begumbad, Budhana, Gadhana, Gadhi Ragunath Singh, Mawai, Bisokhar, Kadharbad, and Gawandhi.

I may also add, tat a few years ago, I was with one of my uncles , Major Sheoran Singh,( Retd) Central India Horse, in Meerut.

At his house, I met his nephews who are Nehra’s.

They mentioned to me that someone was writing a history of the Nehra clan.

Hi
I can add some thing to what Ravi ji has said.My in -laws are also Nehras.I read an article written by shri K.L.Faujdar in Jat-Samaj magajine published from agra. Some points are-

Nehra jats ruled in Rajasthan over an area of 200 sqaire miles.
In fifteenth century Nehras ruled at Narhar. At Naharpur,16miles down below the Nehra Hill, their another group ruled.
At the end of 16th century and beginning of 17th century there was a war between Nehras and Muslim rulers.
Sardar Jujhar Singh,a Nehra ruler was born on samvat 1721 in the month of vikrami srawan. There is a book on the life of-Ran Keshari Jujhar Singh.Jujhar Singh captured Jhunjhunu from Sadulla khan becomes clear from following kavya-
SATRAH SAU SATYASI,AAGAR MAS UDAR,
SADE LINHO JHUNJHUNU,SUDI AATHE SANIWAR
Jhunjhunu Town in Rajasthan was established in the memory of jujhar singh.
