Indian history is not clear about role of jats in the history. It is because historians have limited to the boundaries of India only. They take Jumbodvip to be identical with India and search for solutions. It is found that many names of vedic people are from the region of the ancient Iraq. Therefore in the words of G.M.Bangad-Levin and B.Y.Stavisky, “It is here (in Central Asia) that the answers to many unsolved mysteries of history and the culture of east should be sought.” For a correct interpretation of our ancient history and medieval history we have to study the movement of ideas and people.
Jats have ruled over a large portion of the world in ancient times. They founded many cities in the world. I found from limited available records following cities founded by different jat gotras.
1.Baharaich(Uttar Pradesh):- Founded by Baharaich gotra jats.(Jat Samaj 9/10/1999)
2.Bhind(Madhya Pradesh):- Founded by Bhindtomar a subgotra of Tomar jats.(Jat Samaj 6/1999)

5.Chittorgarh(Rajasthan):-Founded by Jatri gotra jats. It was previously known as Jittor.(Jat Samaj 3/1999)
6.Churu(Rajasthan):-Founded by jat chieftain named Churra in c.1620(Britannica 2001)
7.Delhi:-Founded by Dhillon jats.
8.Dhaka(Bangladesh):-
9.Faridkot(Punjab):-Founded by Bhallan of the Burai jat in16th century during the reign of Mughal emperor Akbar.(Britannica 2001)
10.Ghazni(Afganistan):-Founded by Jat Maharaja Gaj. Gajrania gotra is found in jats who are descendants of raja Gaj. (Jat Samaj 3/1998)
11.Hisar,Bal Hisar,Mood Hisar(Afganistan):-Hisar is abundand city in Afganistan. Bal Hisar city was founded by Balhan gotra jats and Mood hisar city by Mood gotra jats in Afganistan(Jat Samaj 3/1998)
12.Jatali(Iran):- There is jatali province inhabbited by jats in Iran.
13.Jhunjhunu(Rajasthan):-Founded by sardar Jhujhar Singh of Nehra gotra.(Jat samaj 9/2001)
14.Kandahar(Afganistan):-founded by Kandahar gotra jats. Raj kumari of Kandahar was married to Maharaja Dhrit Rashtra. (Jat Samaj 3/1998)
15.Karauli(Rajasthan):-Founded by Maharaja Dharm pal of sinsinwar gotra jat
16.Kurukshetra(Haryana):-The field of kuru in haryana.
17.Mainpuri(Uttar Pradesh):-Founded by Maini gotra jats.(Jat samaj 9/10/1999)
18.Narsinghpur(Madhya Pradesh):-founded by Khirwar or khinwal gotra jats(Jat samaj 4/2000)
19.Pilani(Rajasthan):-Founded by Pilania jats.
20.Rajgarh or Shardulpur(Rajasthan):- Founded by Punia gotra jats.(Jat samaj 11/2000)
21.Sikari(Uttar Pradesh):- Founded by Sikarwar gotra jats.(Jat samaj 4/1999)
22.Sindh(Pakistan):-Named after sindhu gotra jats. Descendants of Maharaja sindhu are Sindhu gotra jats. Sindhu river is also after Sindhu gotra.
23.Urai(Uttar Pradesh):- Founded by Uria gotra jats.
Study of history or local unrecorded knowledge may reveal more cities which have been founded by jats but do not find place in history should be brought on record.

Dharmpal ji namaskar,
Good addition.I am sure every gotra has its history. What we need to do is to search old records or ask our elderly people or contact our bhadwas who keep regular family records.I am from Churu in Rajasthan, but I did not know its history. I could find in the Encyclopaedia Britannica that Churu was founded by a Jat chieftain. To save the jat pride we will have to go deep and find the glorious past.
Sumer singh ji Namaskar.Do you know more history of your home town Rajgarh? It was established by your gotra Punia.

They also occupied the Gwalior fort whre they constructed historical monument-The Chhatri of Mahraja Bhim Singh and Bhimtal. Bharatpur -
The 'Eastern Gateway to Rajasthan', was founded by Maharaja Suraj Mal in 1733 AD, it was once an impregnable well fortified city, carved out of the region formerly known as Mewat. The trio of Bharatpur, Deeg and Dholpur has played an important part in the history of Rajasthan.

The place was named as Bharatpur after the name of Bharat, the brother of Lord Rama, whose other brother Laxman was worshipped as the family deity of the Bharatpur. The legends say the rulers Laxman's name is engraved on the state arms and the seals. The city and the fort have been believed to be founded by Rustam, a Jat of Sogariya clan. Maharaja Suraj Mal took over from Khemkaran, the son of Rustam, and established the empire. He fortified the city by building a massive wall around the city.

The interesting aspect of the Bharatpur history is the domination of Jats in the region since 17th century. Leaders like Churaman and Badan Singh brought the jats together to mould them into a force to reckon with. Suraj Mal has been the greatest ruler who made them a formidable force and played a very important role in the Indian history during 19th century.

Jhajjar (Haryana):

Inhabited about eight hundred years ago, Jhajjar city has many pages of history engulfed in it , Historical buildings, mausoleums, water-pools having at their banks give the reflection of the historical tradition of this city . At the time of Gori 's attack on the king Prithvi Raj in 1191 A.D., the area of Jhajjar was a deserted forest. There was a town named Malokan in the east of present Jhajjar city, mostly inhabited by Jats. Delhi and its adjoining area was affected worst in the battle between Gori and Prithvi Raj . Most of the villages were deserted adjoining area of Delhi by the devastation of war. Malokan was also among there ill-fated villages. Having left their homes and belongings, the residents of Malokan started living here and there. The rule of Gori was well-established in Delhi. Villages started inhabiting again.

Brave Chajju Jat, resident of Malokan village made an appeal to Emperor Shabuddin Gori to rehabilitate the village . Malokan village had fought bravely to defend the country against the Goris, probably due to that the emperor rejected the appeal of the residents of Malokan and ordered to rehabilitate the village somewhere else, and with this order foundation of Jhajjar city was laid by Chajju Jat.

dear all,
Barak ji thanks,i would like to add some information about hansi. even today it is known as asi by the locals.we do not come across any specific date ,when this town came into being.but it is for sure that it was much earlier than 11th cenutry.we do come across some references about this town being taken over by muslim invaders around that time.we also learn that the fort of hansi was known as virgin fort and no body could capture it . before 11th century.now also we can see the fort in north of town in ruins.it is at great height.we also learn that it was ruled by pirthvi raj chouhan and rajia begum.there is a canal which is in north of town and suppose to be the work of firoj shah tuglak when he established the town of hisar in 14th century.many idols belonging to jainism and hindu isms have been found in recent times in the fort.
the town of hansi was the capital of haryana in olden times.and the boundary of haryana was from south of satluj, present haryana, and western up.after the mughals established in delhi, it fell in the hands of mughals and remain so till begining of 19th century, when it was take over by george thomas.he remained there till britishers took over from him in1803 under the command of col. skinner .skinner's horse was also raised here.there is some property owened by skinners even today.it was the largest center for cotton ginning before partition .

Alwar

The royal ambience still pervades the city, marked by a number of structures of historical significance. Lakes and valleys thickly wooded in parts, have made this area the haunt of animals and birds. Rich in wildlife, Alwar has one of the finest sanctuaries in Rajasthan.
Alwar, amongst the Rajput principalities was closest to imperial Delhi, influencing the people and history of the region, formerly known as Mewat. The people of Alwar never submitted to alien rule and often rebelled as they had developed a hardy, but carefree attitude to life. During the 12th and 13th centuries, they often acted as adventurers and marauders and used to raid Delhi at night. The western gates of the capital had to be completely shut every evening to bar them from entering. Sultan Balban (1267-1287) finally crushed their disorganised resistance and as a result they came under Muslim rule. In 1771, Maharaja Pratap Singh won back Alwar and founded a principality of his own.

Sukdev ji,

Minhas surname is very common in US. It is used by both Hindus and Muslims.
In India it is more common in Punjab. You know that our Jat Gotras are not having recorded history. We have to try to find out the roots.

The search on http://reunite.myfamily.com
Shows that there are 1219 people in US with Minhas surname.

Search of www.ancestry.com
Shows that there are 647 people in US with Minhas surname. This site also explains about surnames. So you can try and find out.

Ijjesselmeir is a city/place in the County of Jutland in Europe it sounds so similar to Jaiselmer in Rajasthan. Similarly other cities n place there is More(s) comparable with More jats. Arrhus is also a place there.

See Hungary and Balgaria after Henga and Bal(yan) Jats. Eng(land) Eng/angal jats.

Capital of Moracco Rabat is similar to Rawat?

Egypt's capital Cairo and village of Pratap Singh Cairon.

Purushkhanda in Cappadocia in the west of Caspian sea is similar to Purushpur/Peshawar in Afganistan. Plz see my thread "Roots of Jats in the World"

India itself is named after Sandhu/Sindhu jats. How? Because they named the Sindhu (Indus) River after them n ultimately due the name of this river Present land came to be called Hindustan by Arabs and India (after Indus river) by greeks.

See China its ancient name is Yue-chi-um which is pronounced as Guttium is again after Yue-chi (pronounced as Gutti) i.e. Jats.

Iran is after Aryan and same is Iraq/Irak (Aryak). Flight of afganistan till today is Aryana.

River Kuru(sh) is there in west of Caspian sea (plz ref my thread "Roots of Jats in the World). and an area called Kaurupedian (like land of Kurus) in the west of Iraq.

Seoul is capital of Korea. My mother's village is exactly same at Palwal.

Saw a village of Meenas in Rajasthan "Bonn" similar to Germany's capital.

Bavaria place in Germany look to be Indian name we have here Bavaria Jats and Thakurs also.

Perhaps, Rkji told that Tomar is a big town in Portugal or spain.

Russia resembling Ross/Rose jats.

See the changing names of Caspian sea. Its known as Dadhi Sagar in old Indian literature meaning the Sea of Dahi(ya) jats. Modern dahestan is near caspian sea. Later when Mand jats were in power it was called (Dahi-Mandod). Later when Virk and Gill jats came in power over there it was known as Gillan sea and also the sea of Varkam hyrcanian. And later when Gujar tribe of Jats (modern Bad-Gujjar jats are found in Palwal) was in power it was called "Bahr-al-Khaz" meaning the sea of Gujjars by the Arabians.

And if you see the ancient map of Central and West Asia and Europe then almost each and every city/place can be traced to modern Jat clans in India and Pakistan.

Yes, In india we've forgotten Ballabgarh founded by Raja Balram Singh of Tewatia goth around 1760 AD or so. Chittore was Jittore and Jattore as mentioned by Albaruni. Banswara resembles Bains, Jalore to Jal and Sirohi to Sirohi Jats. Alwar can be compared with a Jat king De-Alwaro near Romania.
