Maukhar or Mukhar or maukhari is a Jat gotra. Indian History texts, simply refer to them as Maukharis with no indicationof who they wee or how they came to power.

This was to some extent understanadable as Indian History as we know it was being constructed by the British colonials and their trained Indian historians.

The Mukara's dominated the Kanuaj area in the late 6/7th century. Thye had alliances with Dharan Jats of Magadha and with Harshvardhan clan in Kanauj.

Later writers wrote of them as Maukharis.
