Dear All,

Most of the undergraduate students in engineering and science, at some point of time have to confront that big question "What next??". MBA, MS, Mtech..there are many options. Those of you who want to pursure higher education in engineering and sciences again have to decide about the field you want to specialize in. That choice more often then not is guided by the current career oppurtunities in that field and the research infrastructure available at present. The lastest issue of IEEE spectrum magzine alludes to "nano-technology" as the technology of future. This term is more familiar to people working in micro-electronics and related industries. To put it simply it means the technology to creat robust electrical-mechanical systems at a nano-scale..atom by atom...literally. This new research area is touted to be next big thing after then CMOS technology.

For those of you who are interested in pursuing a research based career in nano-technology and are currently pursuing undergraduate education in physics, chemistry, biology, electrical engineering and related field from a good univeristy..there might be an oppurtunity for you.

My university (http://www.kuleuven.be) in collaboration with IMEC (http://www.imec.be) (largest micro-electronics research institute in europe) will be launching a new masters program in nano-technology. The first batch will be admitted in the year 2006. More information can be found here (http://www.kuleuven.ac.be/nanotechnology/index.htm) . Its a bit too early to apply for admission but I think the younger members of this forum (especially the iitians and people from other top institutes) can keep this option in mind and prepare accordingly. For more information you can always contact me at Mandeep.Bamal@imec.be.
