Chaacha, I had a chance to go through that site. It really is an excellent
source of information. Quite a treasure. It provided a lot of details that I
had not come across before.

Also the author did not simply regurgitate the British account of events and
was diligent in looking at different versions of events.

One thing I noticed was, in description of battle and aftermath events, the
British troops are described as always sticking to their policy of not killing
or otherwise abusing the women. I wonder if that was generally true.
Were the women really spared life/abuse ?

DELHI DIGEST
MCD gets court notice on renaming Rani Jhansi Road
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, March 3
The Delhi High Court today issued notice to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi on a petition seeking to prohibit the municipal body from renaming Rani Jhansi Road in the heart of the Capital to Manohar Lal Khurana Road. A division bench comprising Chief Justice B C Patel and Justice B D Ahmed, issued notice to the MCD and its Standing Committee Chairman on the petition filed by a resident of Rani Jhansi Road.

The petitioner, Mr M P Chauhan, in his petition has said that renaming was an ‘insult’ to the great warrior queen Lakshmibai, who was one of the pioneers of the First War of Independence in 1857.

He said that M L Khurana, ex-metropolitan member, was no match to the personality of Rani Lakshmibai and added that the proposal to rename the road was only a ‘’dirty game of politics’’.

Saying that the steps to rename the road had hurt the public sentiments, the petition sought quashing of the MCD Standing Committee resolution in violation of the provisions of the corporation, convention and good law, and the larger public interest. While the road had been named as Rani Jhansi Road since pre-Independence days, the authorities were trying to portray that the road had not been officially named so far, it was claimed. A road ‘naming’
