Yes quite true this will not help anybody other then the politicians themselves. Actually this concept of reservation is not bad but the way it is applied in India has made it against the basic law of equal opportunity to all.
We all know that there is around 60 to 70 percentage of people who are still under privileged and they are required to be brought into mainstream. But this cast-based policy is harming them rather then anybody else.

It is seen that out of SC reservation 95% benefit is taken by Only Chamaar.None of the SC castes reach up to that level (Chudas, Dhanak, chipi). It is same with ST also. All the ST seats are taken by meena's of rajasthan despite in some area these meena have more land holding then even jats and rajputs.
In my view the reservation is must in India perspective but should be done in more in a manner that no deserving candidate is denied his share of success. The reservation of seats in these institutions and for that matter even in jobs should not be upheld. These people should do some sort of scaling while provide the equal opportunity to these so called less privileged castes. They should fix the score to be added to the final score these candidates and then a final merit list should be released and top guys of that list should get the seat. They should fix the marks like 15% to ST, 10% to the sc and 5% to the OBC, which should be added to the scores of the students of these communities, and then the final merit list is made for the selection.
In my view this will be true form of giving the equal opportunity to all without detriorting the quality of education and reputation of these institution in international standards.

Kya baat hai Sansanwal bhai? Hehehe Evil called reservation! Hmm I am amazed. Did you read Rothbard?

Anyways buddy. I have always been saying that politicians are not exactly the "fine gentlemen" around. Their only objective is to get in positions of power that are created and protected in the name of "democracy." To do so they will go to any dirty extent. Including trying to woo the minority at the cost of the welfare of the majority.

Khairr leave it doston. I am disconnected myself from the world. I live in my own bubble. I find ways to get around government. To share a secret with you all, I have stopped renewing my licence, registation and insurace. Also I have found a way around taxes. No more money to the government.

No budd I have not read Rothbard, although I have heard about him and his infamous law of specialisation. I didnt read him may be because I could not develop any interest in Libertarians and Anarcho-Capitalists as I could not agree with them.

This could be because I do not live in my own bubble and feel very connected with the world. I strongly support government's role in our lives, but a liberal government (left). I believe in a government that provides opportunites for all of its people and not just security. I enjoy paying taxes because I get facilities and equal opportunities in return, and my taxes also help some lesser fortunates to gain some opportunities.

I agree that politicians are not "fine gentlemen" and at times they are corrupt. But so are you because by not paying taxes and following the law you are being corrupt as well. You should realise that by paying taxes we secure and make our own society better. I am a staunch believer in free markets and sheer capitalism where survival of the fittest is the rule. But at the same time I believe in paying taxes to a government that provides opportunities for everyone to be fit to survive. If we do not have that then we will have our neighbourhoods full of hudlums and loosers who could not survive, I would not want that. And neither I would want to compete with weaklings for survival.

Coming back to the issue here, well I see reservation as positive discrimination. Reservation actually provides privelages to some people by taking it away from others. As per welfare economics and Pareto optimality we cannot make someone better off without worseing someone else. So due to reservation we can never reach Pareto optimality, as someone who deserves to better off is worsened whereas an undeserving individuals gets better off, which actually results in worsening of the society altogether.
Now to decide who deserves what we should look at human capabilities and what the society demands, and due to reservation we can never reach an equilibrium because the supply will never match with the demand.

I hope this clarifies that my idea of calling reservation evil does not come from a Libertarianism, rather it is based on the simple principle of Pareto optimality.

    Cheers,

This issue has been discussed on this site before too. I have no hestitation to say that this is a potential issue for civil war and pogrom of dalits in the country. Ya sarkar in dheda ne marwa ke chhodegi.

Though they claim the instrument of reservation as a way of uplifting the so called dalits, it is counterproductive. Those who could not rise in almost 60 years now, can never rise. A country whose 50% population is on the crutches of reservation will go far, I have my doubts. More the reservation, more the burden on general masses to carry this country forward on their shoulders. But how long ? Even the so called backward casts stand polarised. Those who took benefit initially are the ones who are availing the benefit generation after generation and those who were left behind are still roting in villages.

If at all any provisition of reservation is to be made, it should not be caste based but economy based. It is not any caste which need upliftment but the rural masses living in poverty in villages who need to be looked after. Hence the reservation should be provided to only those who have :

    (i) completed their schooling in a village school and scored a certain minimum per centage, say 60%;
(ii) benefit should be given to only those whose parents' income is below Rs. 50,000 from all sources, irrespective of caste.
(iii) reservation should mean a weightage of certain per centage (say 5%) and if no candidates are available, it should be open to other candidates and in no case be carried forward.
(iv) Reservation only once in life time at entry level.

It is a pity that even our jawans when they come out of army and look for a civilian job are given reservation only once at entry level within a specified period of 3 years whereas it is available on caste basis for the whole life for almost everything; from education to jobs to alllotment of houses, allotment of petrol pumps, gas agencies, you name it and they have reservation.

How long the general populace of the country will tolerate this is to be seen. In fact, political parties are playing with the sentiments of majority because the silence of majority is its worst enemy. But this silence is being miscontrued by our dhotiwalahs as their is a limit and the anger of majority will certainly burst one day.

yeah...jats have reservation only at state level at DELHI , so , i dont feel there wud b much help to them as there is no such institute that falls under state govt.
the DELHI UNIV. itself falls under CENTRAL GOV.
n these 3-4 medical colleges too
i think, if v have 2 benefit, we shud try hard 2 get ourself reservation as OBC under central gov too, else it wont help:o
and hereby, again all the benefit goes to the YADAVS... once again
-There are no bad people in this world..they are either good or amusing.
