Leading scientists today announced ambitious plans to study possible methods of connecting personal computers to the human brain to both download and upload data in either direction.
Speaking at the press conference at the Institute of Human Advancement in Hatfield, project director Prof. Felix Edwards said "These plans will surely be implemented within the next ten years and will be available to people who wish to undergo the procedure within a generation."
The procedure mentioned would involve inserting a USB type port to the brain stem with the other part being exposed at the back of the head. A cable would then be attached at one end to the human and at the other end to the computer.
A leading expert claimed "This would be the biggest breakthrough of the century. The potential uses are endless. There would be no need for camera's. Whatever you saw through in the day would be engrained in your memory and could then be downloaded as a digital image on your pc the same day. Your whole lifes memory could be downloaded onto a hard drive, there would be no need to learn anything for an exam since a whole text book could be uploaded in digital form into your brain a day before an exam."
However, opponents were painting a different picture at a protest outside. Remarked protest leader Sheila Edwards "Potential privacy issues could be a disaster, as what someone saw years ago good be reproduced in the present time. Also,whilst learning a book in 5 seconds might sound a great advancement it could never take the place of real-life experience and study."
