Ot of our batch of 25 ( maths and computing , iitd , 2002-2007) , only one went for Phd !

    24 left ! around 50 % are working in foregin ( singapore , london , hongkong , US ) !

Rest in India ( Bombay , Bangalore , Delhi )

Those working here are working in banks ( citibank , bank of america , fidelity , lehman bros. ) ! and are wroking for US clients and on the same methodology and similar work as people in foreign.

So i dont find much of a difference even in IIT graduates who are working in India / Foreign.

The important underlying principle is attitude. Those in India , if remain totally oblivious to their surroundings are in no ways better infact even more pathtic than the people who work outside but do look at whats happening in India.

Today only i was revising my concepts of Organisational Psychology for a possible presentation at a college .
Human behaviour was tackled by three theories ( broadly ) :
    1. RAtional Economic Assumptions which say that people are basically money motivated , incapable of self-discipline and control and hence need external restraints.

    2. Social Assumptions : People favour social interaction more than the money and are more responsive to peer interaction than the incentives and controls of management.

    3. Self - Actualization assumptions : Human motives fall into a heirarchy of categories . beginning with the most basic 1) basic physiological needs 2) need for survival , safety 3)social and affiliative needs , 4) self esteem needs 5) self actualization needs . People are primarily self motivated and need no restrain on them and there is no conflict between self- actualization and organisational performance.

We can ( with minor modifications) from an organisation to life in general .

I belong to the category of the mix of all 3 but with more of the 3 than the 2 and 1 being the least.

And being a bahviorist , i cant believe that people in their late 20's and 30's can be changed to that greater an extent.

So my point is that those who are motivated enough will always come back irrespective of anything and those who are not motivated enough , well then they are lossing the very essence of life , We need not be angry over them or treat them with contempt , but actually sympathesize with them for not making it (Note : a lil bit of sarcasm is inbuilt , and i do explicitly mention that )

    They do love their country

Well I do agree to a good extent with what is pointed by Anil on this subject.
As far as staying abroad for short is concerned I think there is no harm in doing so. In todays world when we are talking about globalisation we simply can not ignore on the role of our country on the intrenational plateform apart form the things we have to do at our home. I can give you an incident and then you decide urself that whether it was good that people stay abroad or not. I know some of the projects which needs the involvment of many countries to make it a success. It was a european project...so most of the european countries were initially involved. Some of the indian students were working as postdoc here in this field so the people of the group were well aware of the capabilities of indian people. After finishing their postdoc they went back to india and performed the role of mediator between the indian and the european counter part and as a result india is officially a part of the project. This surely brings recognition to the country. I can see the approval of our talents when we interact with the people of other countries here. I really feel good when people tell me that India is also part of the huge project.

Now you tell me was it a wrong decision to come and work abroad???

Well I do not think so.....
I guess the one who was working abroad has served the nation in the best possible way he can....So do you still think they not have a right to say that they love the nation.......I am sure they can say it with more pride...as long as they know what they are working for...

Thanx madam for considering an object of pity. And yeah, i am frail.
Anything else to clarify. You can see a lot of examples of frailty, fragility, weakness within my quotes. Anything else to say ???

Well Shashi... the example u courted here is not under study. This thread is talking abt those who settle down abroad and don return back coz of some reasons.
For ppl like postdoc and study or short term already everyone is appretiating them, as mentioned by anil and verma also and i too support them, for knowlege and other resorces one shud go anywhere but that knowledge shud be useful to our country.... isnt it ??? So, the quest here is nt for short term...

...A little news snippet on BBC...

"Protest rallies have been held across India by hard-line Hindus to campaign against a proposed shipping canal project between India and Sri Lanka.
Massive traffic jams were reported in many places and trains delayed in many parts of the country.

Protesters say the project will destroy a bridge they believe was built by Hindu God Ram and his army of monkeys.

Scientists question the belief, saying it is solely based on the Hindu mythological epic Ramayana
    ." ..................

    ...Anyways, eh....you were saying?...

Agar koi unse ye kahe ki app wapis janna chate hain apne desh kuch kerna chate hain to unka jawab hota hai ki india bhi koi jagha hai rehne ki or apne bachho me wo 1 indian beta ya beti dhundte hain.[/quote]
