Thumbs up first one in the country haryana village gets its own website

Chandigarh: A village in Jind district of Haryana today became the first one in the country to log on to the information superhighway with the launch of a website containing its history, legislative, education, health and other parameters.

The website of the “First Model Internet Village” - www.Smartvillages.Org - launched by Haryana Governor A R Kidwai presents a holistic picture of the habitaion with detailed statistics on varied areas ranging from government setup, village panchayat, infrastructure on basic amenities, electricity, water, roads, irrigation and so on.

Complete Citizen Directory covering house number, names of the villagers, father name, sex, education, occupation, category, voter number, ration card no, driving license number, religious places, tourist attractions, local facilities, transport facilities, ongoing development schemes, public announcements and village problems and suggestions have been included in the website.

Speaking on this occasion, Kidwai appreciated the efforts of the NGOs, which have compiled such data. The information would be of imense help for the officers and the government in formulating plans for development of that area, he said.

As Haryana is emerging as a model state in the country with speedy industrialisation and highest per capita income, this type of data from the grassroot level would further boost the development process, Kidwai said.

With the launching this website, the vision of the Haryana Government to take IT to the villages has also been accomplished, he said. Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda was also present on the occasion
