Gujjars soften stand, ready to talk

    Karawadi, Bharatpur, May 29
Gujjar leader Kirori Singh Bainsla said he could consider talking to the Rajasthan government provided it made a “proper proposal”. “We are willing to talk through our representatives with the state government, if the government makes a proper proposal,” Bhainsla said without specifying what he meant by “proper proposal”.

“However, we will not settle for anything less than ST status and we will not move from here till we have the recommendation letter from the state government," he said.

Seventy-year-old Bainsla earlier addressed a rally to observe “martyrs” day’ in memory of those killed in the agitation since 2007.

Jaipur: The Vasundhara Raje government is ready to hold fresh talks with Col Bainsla to resolve the crisis, senior BJP leader Gopinath Munde said here. “We want to hold talks with the Gujjar leaders by any means”, state BJP in-charge Munde told reporters after coming out of a meeting between party and state government functionaries chaired by the CM

An invitation for talks will be extended to the protesters led by Bainsla in Pilupura, he said. — PTI

    Gujjars block roads in Delhi

    New Delhi, May 29
Normal life in the National Capital Territory of Delhi and adjoining areas was disrupted today as scores of agitating Gujjars blocked roads and threw stones at vehicles and the police during the one-day bandh called by the All-India Gujjar Mahasabha. The Gujjars are demanding ST status for the community.

According to the police, over 120 protesters were detained in various areas of the capital. Protesters clashed with police at Aya Nagar and Mehrauli in South Delhi. Some cases of arson were also reported.

The worst affected areas were the borders of the Capital including Ghazipur, Loni, Badarpur and Mehrauli-Gurgaon Road where thousands of commuters were stranded for hours because of blockades.

Trains including Gujarat Sampark Kranti Express (Nizamuddin-Ahmedabad) and Maharashtra Sampark Kranti Express (Bandra-Hazrat Nizamuddin) were cancelled and many routes were diverted, the Northern Railway said. The agitation also spilled over into some Gujjar-dominated areas in East, South and West Delhi, where small groups of agitators blocked roads an forced shops to close.

The police and paramilitary forces were seen controlling the situation throughout the day. The police said most markets remained opened.

Because of road blockades in some areas, many people were unable to reach their offices in time. Even some government offices reported thin attendance, as many opted to stay away fearing violence.

The Union Home Ministry had put the National Capital Region on high alert two days ago following the call given by agitators and issued advisories to Delhi, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh governments asking them to maintain peace. The protesters were observing the day as 'Martyrs Day' to mark the first anniversary of their agitation, in which people had died. Local policemen and paramilitary personnel were also deployed in adjoining Faridabad, Gurgaon (both in Haryana), Noida and Ghaziabad (both in Uttar Pradesh).

Delhi-Lucknow Shatabdi stranded for three hrs

    New Delhi, May 29
Passengers, aboard the Delhi-Lucknow Shatabdi Express, were stranded for three hours today at Dankaur near Ghaziabad as Gujjars held a dharna on the tracks.

Sources said the train resumed its journey following the intervention of the director- general of police, Uttar Pradesh.

They said the passengers and railway property were protected during the protest.

The railways said the Delhi-Lucknow Shatabdi was the lone train that encountered the trouble.

Sources said the deployment of seven companies of railway protection special force in the National Capital Region prevented any harm to the train passengers or damage to railway property.

Eighteen trains, including nine local trains, were cancelled due to the protest by the Gujjar Samaj Mahapanchayat.

A Press release issued by the northern railway said the cancelled trains included the premier 2954 Hazrat Nizamuddin-Mumbai Central /August Kranti Express, besides the 9020 Dehradun-Bandra Terminus-Dehradun Express and the 9024 Firozpur-Mumbai Central-Firozpur Janta Express. The local trains cancelled today were the Aligarh-Delhi EMU, Khurja-Meerut passenger train and Ghaziabad-Delhi junction EMU.

Another eight trains were diverted, including the 2952 New Delhi-Mumbai Rajdhani Express, the 2926 Amritsar-Bandra Terminus Paschim Express, the 2904 Amritsar-Mumbai Central Golden Temple Mail and the 2312 Delhi-Howrah Kalka Mail.

Meanwhile, the ministry of home affairs that had its security arrangements in Gujjar agitation affected states plans to continue vigil on vulnerable areas.

Special secretary, internal security, M. Kumawat said here today they were monitoring the situation and had provided 21 companies of central para military forces to Rajasthan and four to Haryana.

He said Delhi had no dearth of forces and no major incident was reported during the ‘NCR (National Capital Region) roko’ bandh’ announced by the Gujjars.

“There were some traffic jams and some minor incidents of tyre burning. Some trains were detained.

We have sent advisories to governments of Gujjar affected states and are also in touch with the director- general of the railway protection force,’’ Kumawat said.

    Gujjars Protest
    BJP MP offers to mediate
    Chitleen K Sethi
    Tribune News Service

    Jaipur, May 29
Even as the Gujjar protest spread across the country today, the Rajasthan government kept a tight check on the agitators within the state. The “Shahidi Divas” programmes in Sikandra in Dausa district and Pilupura in Bharatpur during which Gujjar protestors offered floral tributes and observed a two-minute silence to pay homage to memory of those killed in police since last year passed off peacefully.

The state government today also decided to conduct the post-mortem of 14 victims of Sikandara police firing whose bodies have been lying at the mortuary of the SMS Hospital here since May 24.

Sitting BJP MP from Bharatpur, Vishwendra Singh has offered to help resolve the Gujjar reservation issue and met the Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje at her official residence here this morning. Later, he proceeded to Bharatpur via Delhi.

The MP is likely to mediate with the state government to bring Gujjar leaders to the table to resume talks. Gujjars at Bharatpur have a high regard for Singh, who is from the Bharatpur Royal family.

Congress leaders were stopped from going to the sit-in protest site. Uma Bharti too was refused entry by the state government.

Addressing medipersons after a meeting with the Chief Minister at her residence this afternoon, BJP spokesman, Prakash Javadekar said the government was ready for fresh talks with the protestors. “The government cannot meet thousands of protestors at the site. A common meeting point has to be decided,” he said.

He added that the bodies would be handed over to the kin of the victims for cremation. The deadlock over post-mortem of victims whose bodies were lying at dharna sites in Pillukapura-Karvari and Sikandra was still unresolved and efforts to resolve it were on, Javadekar said.

    Mann arrives in Bharatpur

    Jaipur, May 29
Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) president Simranjit Singh Mann landed in Bharatpur today morning “to mediate peace” between the protesting Gujjars. Mann managed to come from Punjab via Uttar Pradesh, but was, however, stopped at the Bharatpur district. He was not allowed to move towards Pilu Pura, where the Gujjars were squatting with the bodies of their supporters.

Addressing a press conference at the Bharatpur Circuit House, Mann said he had come for the sake of peace and was aware of the problem. He demanded that since the Gujjars had no faith in the state government, the post-mortem of the bodies of the slain protestors should be conducted outside the state. — TNS

    Respected Dudee Ji,
I dnt know and understand what made you to project Bhainsla as reedemer and icon as an inspiration for neo-jat-leadership. Enlighten us about the splendid 'positive aura and energy' he has thrown at masses, if you dnt mind? Does he possess any sense of resposibility in the terms of civic discipline and moral duty being an ex-army man or you are just taken away with simple blocking of roads n killing innocent people? He has given a pathetic example of leadership to the country. I wish him and people like him the worst hell.

    Thanks

    Ha ...Ha ...ha.

Yeah it is a problem .

Choudhary Hawa Singh Sangwan is doing a wonderful job for community and we need many more like him.

BJP walas planned a rally on the same day and all the fuss was for the same reason.

You may be surprised to know that one of organiser Virender Sindhu was implicated under anti national activities for insisting on holding a rally .

There are positive moves regarding that.

Yesterday we had a meeting at Sonepat and representative of all Jat organisation had a unanimous resolution regarding inclusion of Jats in OBC at centre and state levels.A committee was constituted under leadership of Retired Chief Justice DS Tewatia .Jats are certainly moving towards their goal and efforts of sincere people for Jat community are showing its results.

yah kam koe karamati leader hi kar sakta hae

hamne to Chandigarh sy Jaipur tak
Col ko Dewta ki tarah pujta dekha hae
Kotputli sy dusa tak Gujari arti utarti han.
Murda BC kaum mae naye jaan dal di hae.
Kisi nirdosh ki jaan jaye- yah buri bat hae
Konsa movement-rally mae admi nahi marte han
    Drug-Gangwar-Dowry- Rail-road-air accident.
honour killing- terrorism sy daily kitne marte han.
Gandhi ki azadi mae kitne admi mare han
Bharat ky 3 tukade huye- lakho mare han.
    Maham kand- Khendela -Kadma- Mandiwali
Nandigram- Naya yudh- har jagah mare han.
Gharsana mae kuch nahi mila bina sanghrash
Rajasthan ky Jatoo ny bhi peaceful andolan
kiya jisme mae bhi hun. jabhi BC Aaraksam mila hae.

Do not forget Sikar mahayagya - Jats Rajputs
Movement and Jat kisan Sanghrash and history.

Let we Jats learn from Gujars and from other people.
The Rajasthan Gujjars’ demand for inclusion in the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category has turned violent in the past year, as the community feels squeezed out of OBC quota benefits. Sources say that the demand — first put forth in 1961-62 — has to be seen in relation to the inclusion of Jats in the Rajasthan OBC list in 1999.

In recent years, OBC cut-offs in the state have sometimes crossed the general category cut-off. In this year’s RPSC civil services (preliminary) examination, the general category cut-off, 193.14, was 13 marks below the OBC cut-off. The difference between the OBC and ST cut-offs, however, was 41 marks.

In the 2006 Rajasthan PMT examination, the OBC cut-off was 770, while the general cut-off was 737, at the pre-counselling stage. This was because the RPMT results at the pre-counselling stage make separate lists according to the category the candidate chooses, while the final list is adjusted by considering the top 50 per cent candidates as general category and then filling up the mandated quotas. The state civil services result, however, considers all OBCs as reserved on the grounds that reserved candidates get preferential service allotment.

Political observers feel that the competition in Rajasthan’s OBC category has become acute after Jats were included by the Vajpayee government in 1999. This also helped the BJP win support from the traditionally pro-Congress Jats in the 2003 assembly polls, they say. “After 1999, OBC groups like Gujjars, Malis and Ahirs find it impossible to compete with the economically well-off Jat candidates,” says a former bureaucrat. Gujjar leader Bhim Singh says, “The living standard of Gujjars is quite poor. Meenas have more land than us. We want parity with them through inclusion in the ST quota. With new castes getting added, the Gujjars are not able to benefit from the OBC quota.”

Jats constitute 10-11 per cent of Rajasthan’s population. With a significant presence in about 100 assembly constituencies, and 36 MLAs in the state, Jats are politically and educationally more powerful than Gujjars — who make up about 5 per cent of the population — and other OBC castes.

Consequently, Gujjars want inclusion in the ST quota, where Meenas are practically the sole beneficiaries. Out of Rajasthan’s ST population — 12.6 per cent of the total — Meenas constitute 53 per cent and Bhils almost 40 per cent. The Meenas are dead-against the Gujjars’ demand, which lead to violent Gujjar-Meena clashes last year.

    Deepender hits out at Raje
    Tribune News Service

    Chandigarh, June 1
The BJP government in Rajasthan will have to pay a heavy price in the next assembly elections as it has done no good to any section of society during its four-and-a-half-year rule in the state. The Congress will be voted to power in the next assembly elections in the desert state.

This was claimed by Rohtak MP Deepender Hooda, who is the Congress election in charge of Hanumangarh district, in a statement issued here today. Earlier in the day, he addressed a “Sadbhawna Sankalp Sammelan” organised by the Congress in Amarpurajalu Khat village in the Sangriya assembly constituency. He also addressed public meetings in Pilibanga, Nathwana and Shahapini villages.

Deepender said the people of Rajasthan were disappointed with the state government as it had indulged in firing on them and had not fulfilled its election promises. He accused the Rajasthan government of functioning in an aristocratic manner which had triggered grate resentment among the masses. On the contrary, the previous Congress governments in the state always worked for the welfare of the poor and the farming community.

He said in Haryana, the Congress, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, had taken a number of historic decisions for the benefit of all sections of society.

Coming down heavily on the Indian National Lok Dal, which plans to contest the Rajasthan assembly elections, Deepender said in Haryana the party faced the anger of the people in the assembly elections in 2005 for committing several atrocities on farmers. The people’s anger against the INLD was so intense that its supremo Om Prakash Chautala could not even become the leader of the opposition in the Vidhan Sabha. The BJP in Rajasthan would meet the same fate as the INLD had met in Haryana.

Lashing out at Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, Deepender said the people living in palaces could not think of the welfare of farmers and the poor. Only those people who had worked with them could think of their welfare and take decisions for
    their uplift.

    Assault on Vice-President of Union
    Auto-rickshaw drivers go on strike
    Tribune News Service

    Yamunanagar, June 1
Residents of the district had to face inconvenience today as more than 3,000 auto-rickshaw drivers went on strike in protest against the alleged beating up of the vice-president of the Jagadhri-Yamunanagar Auto Union. Auto-rickshaws are the main mode of transportation in the district.

Ramesh Kumar, vice-president of the union, was allegedly beaten up by a group of persons lead by Guchha last evening.

Incidentally, the entrance examination for admission to polytechnic courses was held today and hundreds of students who came to the district for appearing in the examination had to look for alternative modes of transportation to reach to their centres. Meanwhile, on a complaint of Ramesh Kumar, the police has booked Guchha and 25 others for assaulting him.

On April 4 also, the auto-rickshaw drivers had observed a strike alleging that the police was unnecessarily challaning their vehicles.

    Gujjars to gherao Parliament
    Our Correspondent

    Rewari, June 1
Members of the Gujjar community from Rewari, Mahendragarh, Gurgaon, Faridabad and other districts of Haryana will stage a demonstration at Jantar Mantar and will also gherao Parliament in New Delhi on June 5 in protest against the alleged brutalities on Gujjars by the Rajasthan government as well as in support of the community’s demand for ST status.

A decision in this regard was taken at a mahapanchayat of Gujjars of Rewari, Mahendragarh, Gurgaon and Faridabad districts held under the chairmanship of Kalu Ram Nambardar (Bawal) at the Jaisinghpur Khera barrier, 25 km from here, today.

Expressing solidarity with their community members fighting for ST status in Rajasthan, leaders reiterated their demands for a compensation of Rs 10 lakh each to the dependants of those killed in police firing and Rs 5 lakh each to those injured, unconditional withdrawal of cases registered against Kirori Singh Bainsla and other Gujjar leaders of Rajasthan and a judicial inquiry into the alleged atrocities on Gujjars in Rajasthan.

Capt B.R. Mahlawat, district president of the Jat Mahasabha Haryana, Thakur Abhey Singh, district president of the Rajput Mahasabha, Haryana, Prem Singh of the All-India Brahmin Sabha and Shyam Singh Thakur, chairman of a cluster of 360 villages of Gurgaon district, extended support to the agitation while addressing the mahapanchayat.

    Quota: Jats form panel
    Our Correspondent

    Sonepat, June 1
Representatives of 27 Jat organisations and pradhans of various khaps of Jats today formed a six-member committee to constitute a 15-member Jat arakshan sangharsh samiti to launch a campaign in support of their demand of reservation for Jats in OBCs.

The six-member committee will be headed by former Chief Justice D.S. Tewatia.

The other members of the committee are Kanwal Singh Pradhan, Col Maher Singh Dahiya (retd), Mangeram Sangwan, Ranbir Singh Malik and Udey Singh Dalal, former MLA.

After the meeting here in Chhoturam Dharamshala, which was jointly organised by the World Jat Aryans Foundation, New Delhi, and the Rastriya Surveer Jat Akta Aour Samjhota Manch, Haryana, the working president of the foundation Col O.P. Sindhu (retd) said the committee would hold a meeting on June 3 to finalise the names of the sangharsh samiti.

The samiti members, including members from Delhi Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and Rajasthan, would go to villages in Haryana to seek public support and create awareness among the Jats about their demand, he added.

Tewatia said the demand for reservation for Jats in OBCs justified on the pattern of other castes like Gujjars and Ahirs as the Jats were socially backward in comparison to other upper castes.

We need all so called educated, uneducated,Dabbe pe baithhe logg and those so called assli ground heros[seen a lot of these ground realities though] to move in some sensible direction if at all we have some substance and dignity of purpose.negative criticizers will and have not done any thing good to the mankind ever in the history and such people need to be ruthlessly brushed aside in larger intersest of a kaum or a PURPOSE.Leadership is not by design,it is by KARTOOT.Move on folks those who understand things and are custodians of HUMILITY.Bless!

    Bhai Sangwan

I would like to request, members and participant to organize a jat meet away from Capital Region. We don't have to go very far, choose any village near bahadurgarh, Sonepat or Samli and would know the real state of affairs!

    Dear members,
Reservation for jats in Haryana is a current topic which is there because of obvious reasons like our community in UP, Rajasthan and Delhi is already there in this quota scheme. Now Gujjars are there to raise the issue and sentiments. Why not if they have got it and Gujjars are fighting for it. So its our turn. But is it really a big gain or falling prey to politicians. It really needs to be looked at.
Now there are calls for embibing the Gujjars, the Bainsla...I personally feel its degrading for me and my community,If you have to take Gujjars as leaders and follow them for our struggle for anything, whatever it is. I have got "n" number of great achievers and fighters in my own community. This cheap and ugly work of Gujjars can never match them in any way. The list is very long but to name a few....Ch Gokul, Ch Churamal, Raja Badan Singh, Maharaja Surajmal, Maharaja Jawahar Singh, Raja Mahender Pratap, Baba Teja, Ch Charan Singh, Ch Devi Lal, Mirdha's. I just named a few happened to follow the same religion which i do and there are great names like Maharaja Ranjit Singh types with whom i can connect with the Jat blood and we all should be proud, he is the only name who conquered Kabul and the muslim jats are doing extremely well in Pakistan also. When Pakistan came into being, Jats were in very bad state but recently, they are a force to reckon with. President Tarar, Pervez Illahi, Sujjat Hussain are the few names which we are familiar with. And, Gujjars have got none and they stand true to their reputation as on date also. so, lets change the model, we really cant afford to follow them. When we roam around in the Indian society the tag itself is not suitable to our reputation. How many of us have close friends with such reputation.

Now if we are really thinking about the reservation then lets go for some rough statistics.
    1) Whats the total population of jat in Haryana as on date.
    2) Whats the total %age of Jats in Haryana as on date.
    3) As per reservation quota what catagory do we expect to fall.
    4) What will be the total %age reservation for us as reserva catagory in all catagories. For ex; Class A,B,C,D.
5)Total no. of jobs as per its catagory, rough idea.
    6) Total no. of reservation for all kinds of educational institutes.
I request if any of us has got that idea, it should be shared with all before we talk about the reservation.

Now if you talk of castes which are already reserved for the quotas. I doubt if their financial and social portions have improved as a whole. We have got examples in front of us like SC's of Haryana. there are very few families who have been enjoying this status and majority of them are still in the same rut. And this previlidged class amongst them has distanced from them. Hope we dont create such a class among us.
This is the time for jobs and opportunities in private sector and we should train ourself for that. I personally feel, asking for such a segregation from the main stream will put us to a great disadvantage as any such categorisation will be taken as a step which will put us in line of less deserving and opportunists. The mainstream will not give us a due chance and the most coverted characteristic that is self-respect because as we might have already bargained it. Kindly look at all these things.

    With regards,
    Rajender Singh
