Dear "D".
The thread is really very constructive by all its means.
Thanks a lot to you for starting such a marvelous thread. I hope that it'd prove a mile stone to make JATlanders understand the English language "up to" the level of excellency.
Thanks to you once again dear.
I'm putting my views in this regard. Don't know "up to" which extent I'm right. I'm reply by using my ordinary prudence.
1. What are you upto? : means "what are you doing"
2. What have you been upto? :means "what have you been doing recently/lately"

Bhai Prashant .. there is nothing to thank me on this and i say same to everyone. Simply, i got this idea and started and now its evryone's thread to give it a right direction. I feel good that u guys are appreciating the idea and that is enough for me dear, no need of thanking me
well regarding the sentences.
1. What are you up to ? ... well ur explanation is gud and fortunately i use it quite often but i need more clarification on this. According to me and what i heard this sentence is used when the guy whom u r asking is gonna do some mischievous act. Exmpl: If a kid is doing something in his room and his father comes and asks what are you upto? mean what are u going to do but many a times we use it simply like what u gonna do or what are u going to next(near future, right that time) ... i juss want to confirm whether is it correct ?
2. This one is quite ordinary and u explained well. This was for them also who dont know the difference. may be it will be helpful
Share something guys and make the thread meaningful
Watch this video on YouTube for an anatomy of the most used word in English language.

People who want to learn this language in an exciting manner, YouTube is the place to be at.
There is a series of some 100 videos on YouTube by the name of
Learn English xx - yy
where xx = 01, 02, 03 ............. 100
and yy = Introduction, time, families, directions and so on. The level of learning keeps increasing as we goes up higher in value of xx
For example, link for
Learn English 01 - Introduction

Learn English 02 - Time

and so on.......... !!
It may look simple to most of us, but for beginners and children, it is very useful.
Thanks Sanjeev
I think that the following links would be more helpful to find related videos.
But I think, a discussion makes more perfect than a class room teaching. So better to carry out more and more discussion on English uses as it's the best platform to interact with each other, knowing the views of the fellow members.

Dear All,
Ask some questions, doubts so that others can also be benefited with the answers. I think most of us are not so good in english and there is always some space ti improve so we must be having some doubts. Come fwd and put them here .
Dev
"You will not understand, so better I shall keep silence"
It should be 'silence' or 'silent' ?
u right there DK...
"You will not understand, so better I shall be silent"
or
"You will not understand, so better I shall maintain my silence"
pls. dont argue on the correctness of the sentence, we r here talking on the usage of silent/silence

! ... be BOLD in what you stand for !
!! ... i've the simplest tastes, i'm always satisfied with the best !!
!!! ... be yourself, everyone else is already taken !!!
" You will not understand, so I better be silent.
sanjeev abv. is right but agn i reiterate tht we r not talking abt correctness of the sentence here.
shweta, i guess sum one else can offer a better explanation here, cos i cannot explain grammatically, but u cannot use "keep" in place of "be". "keep" will go with "silence" only. my ungrezi has forgotten basic rules, it now relies on simple instinct... right or wrong... wch i can only judge when i read a sentence.
you can surely write ... "You will not understand, so better I keep my silence"
or
"You will not understand, so better I keep silent"

Can someone tell me how to learn part of speech and retain that?
how to use new words with proper connotation?
Khudi ko kar buland itna ke har taqder se pehle
Khuda bande se ye poche bata teri raza kia hai
observe silence, keep silent,maintain silence
all are correct.
it is just a matter of collocation.
