    Smile Football and Soccer

    Hello friends,

I am not a big fan of Football but i like to watch Football games and used to play a little during college days.

I wonder if anybody can tell me the difference between Soccer and Football. These two terms always confused me since long. I tried to find an answer from some experts and also searched the Net many times but couldn't get any conclusive outcome.

Any Football/Soccer fan who can shed some light on these terms and the difference/relation between the same.

Waiting for some interesting and descriptive replies with facts as i came across so many contradictory definitions, similarities, differences about these terms.

    Thanx in advance

The game is football. Its just called soccer in USA and Australia. Just that they have their own version of football and they were already very popular. So they started calling traditional football soccer. Soccer also originated from England only. When all the football clubs in England came together and formed the football association, it was known in short as assoc. Then a guy named charles Wreford Brown coined the term soccer as he thought it was easier to pronounce then assoc. The word never caught on in England but in USA it gained popularity as it was useful to distinguish it from American football. Initially the americans tried to call it soccer football but the word was too long and it got shortened to soccer only.

Just a friendly advice, dont mention the game as soccer in England, they dont like it too much.

    Question

I read somewhere that original "Soccer" ( the term or Game ) is related to the China.

The origin of the game in a very crude form can be traced back to china though romans and greeks can also claim the same honour....

Smile Someone differentiate Soccer and Football like this :

There is a tremendous size difference between football and soccer.

In football you not only have players that make up a team, but you have specific teams within your team. There are three major teams that consist of a football team: The offense, the defense, and special teams. Each one has a specific objective. The offense with a quarterback, receivers, and guards’ objective are to score touchdowns, while the defensive team’s job is to stop the opposing team from scoring by tackling the quarterback, runners, or blocking passes. Special teams deal with punts, field goals, and kickoffs. All in all there are anywhere from 30 – 60 players that combine to make a football team.

Soccer is a continuous sport. Meaning unlike football where you have set plays and an offensive and defensive team, in soccer the ball is always going. That being the case there are still offensive and defensive parts to the play of soccer. One can tell whether a team is on the offensive or defensive by where the ball is on the field. If the ball is on your side of the field then you are on defensive, if it is on your opponent’s side then you are on the offensive.

So, Soccer and Football games are played with identical balls or different ones ( with respect to International Standards )

What about other International rules ?

Soccer and Football are one n same game,,only called differently. Americans call the traditional football as soccer, as they have their own football game which is called American Football. American Football is played by hands... not by foot, and that is palyed only in America; rst all over world the game of football is same...even in soccer in US, the same rules are followed n same teams, players etc,,as anywhere else in football.
